I vote Meh.

Could we not just have the freedom to chose? The people who want to play god can do that and the people who want to work for it can do that?

Or is there some adverse effect to having that specific command open?

That wasn't an option! However, that does have three letters, which is more similar to 'yes' that to 'no', therefore, I shall put you down as YES! xD

...Unless you object, of course.
I might put you down for yes and no...thereby making it as if...you...didn't ever vote. ;)

AND LINES CLOSE WHEN JIM'S GOT THE SERVER READY!

EDIT: Apt's suggestion works for me. (Lines are still open for voting though.)

adverse effect in as much as you know that all the mining you're doing is completely unnecessary. Gathering resources is a big part of the game. I can't imagine why you'd want to remove that.

Not having enough resources will effect what we're able (or not, more to the point) to build. With unlimited resources, the challenge is building something to the best of our ability, rather than having to settle with second best because we're unable to gather what we need for it.

That's my view, anyway.

this here is the PA server. Every resource has to be mined and yet they've built a full scale rendering of rapture and columbia, not to mention numerous other massive constructions.

Well, I find it hard to argue with that. Nevertheless I'm sticking with my vote, though NO is winning at the moment.

I'm going to vote no as well, just to piss of Green Pig ;) Also I like a challenge.

I have to ask though, how did they manage to create a desert and snow area? Did they just transform a part of the map?

The admin did it. He basically went in and changed all blocks in certain areas into different kinds.

So in the lava part, all sand was changed to shingle, all dirt to cobblestone and so on. I dunno how he did the lava. Same basic principle with the snow and desert I guess.

OK all - it's now running on Ubuntu Linux. Please attempt to join on 217.137.144.226. I can connect so I know it's running.

I'll be in the Malazan chat (link in the header of the page). I may need your Minecraft usernames - we'll see.

It's very much in test so if you do get in feel free to muck about ;)

NO.

Sorry, got to agree with Morgoth, I think there is a much greater sense of achievement if you have to mine for the goods first. And bear in mind, in my map, i've found a total of 8 diamond and 73 iron. that's all.
(so, no minecarts for me yet)

One question re multiplayer - do we all spawn in same area, or will we be dotted about like, i don't know, something very dotty?
meh. Link was dead :(

Minas Tirith? Can't find Apt's original post, but one of you means Moria...

Shut up you, this is the Malazan Forum, not the LotRs forum. I bite my thumb at you and your monstrous hand.

That's it for me for the night - I've been at this for 6 hours ;)

Current status:

The server will run and I can connect but no one else can.

To Do:

Check Ubuntu forums and stuff to find out about hosting games.
I suspect the ports are open as Green Pig connected and I saw his avatar in game before he got the Win XP SP3 error.

I am not back home until 7pm tomorrow GMT so I won't be able to try anything till then.

Take care!

Jim

No rush, Jim, we've all got Thanksgiving dinners to go omnomnom at tonight anyways, right? (because of course we are all Canadian)

We'll get it eventually and it'll be all the sweeter for the anticipation through the getting-it-to-work process!

I kinda love it when D'rek unleashes her nerd wrath, as I knew she would here. Sorry innocent bystanders, but someone's gotta be the kindling.
