Gutted for all of you. I cannot stop playing Minecraft. I am digging a tunnel from one end of the map to the other. I have had many obstacles along the way. I am digging from the 4th block on the Y axis, as deep as it will let me anyway where there is bedrock. Diamond's, Gold, Redstone, Coal, Iron, Lapis Lazuli, Obsidian, you name it I have mined it along the way. The scary bit is when you dig a little and Lava starts dribbling down. Yikes. I have to block it up quickly then dig upwards and around it and then block off all the Lava. Then continue on my merry way. My plan is to make a mine train from one end to the other. Then I can start building my home. I want to tame a cat and a wolf and add to my massive farm I have already built. I still get the shivers when a creeper appears out of no where and what's with all the zombie moans when I am in the middle of no where with no way in to get me! 12am and I have to go to bed otherwise I have nightmares.

Ok, so situation is this:

The newest town is in all likelihood lost unless a backup was done. WE have no contact with the server host and there was no warning before things went down.

Mess has the most recent backups of the server from when he was splicing our various regions, which should include all but the town I think.

So we're back to needing a host. I am stretched thin financially right now and can't commit to running another server long-term. TBH with the new member of my family I have no time for MC in general, but I still like popping online from time to time. Adminning a server now is easy (compared to what it used to be like), so really all we need is a Ubuntu virtual private server to host the game on. Ubuntu VPSs capable of running MC server are not very expensive as far as VPSs go

If anybody is willing to step up, Linode (https://www.linode.com/) are very reliable, they have fast servers and their tech support is first-rate. They are also the best price for the best quality I've found in VPSs anywhere (I use them for my company's website). $20/month

I'll add that the last backup is from 24th November so the only stuff missing from it that I know of is the houses I added to town and ADLs quartz palace. There may be some other small bits but nothing that was immediately obvious from flying around.

Filesize is 1.47GB zipped, 2.44GB unzipped. If that is an issue I can remove the old server pretty easily which'll cut it in half maybe.

Just as an aside,

Has anybody flipped on "amplified" biome mode? It's pretty awesome looking. Prairie rolling hills get turned into mountains and mountain biomes basically go to world height.

It gives my computer a heart-attack, granted, but it would be super fun to play a MP server in one of those mountain biomes. Everybody's house built into the sides of cliffs and bridge networks and catwalks all around. Like Ewoks.

Lol...was just touring around a bit in the amplified world and my computer literally did have a heart attack. Fully locked up the system.

I don't think it's the graphics per se, more the processing power required to actually load all those blocks into memory. You might get away with it if you set view distance to just a few chunks, but on normal view distance it's just too much. The amount of actual "cubes" loaded is probably somewhere around 10x the default number, looking at the volume of some of those mountains.

Alas with no resolution in sight I've put the server file up for download: Malazan Minecraft Server.

I have been considering getting some server space for a while, if I do I'll get the server back up and running.

To run the world in your client download the .zip and extract it. Move the "Malazan Empire" folder to your Minecraft Saves folder - on Win7 it is %appdata%/.minecraft/saves

Start Minecraft, Single Player, Malazan Empire.

You may want to use a Survival/Creative switching utility to get to places.

Co-ordinates for many but not all locations are below. Do note there is no Y component to these so teleport in Creative with a height of ~100 unless you like dying

I would love to get another server up and running but it is definitely not in my budget right now. I have been messing around with the newer tekkit (and tekkit derivative) modpacks. These are pretty cool now - they've added multiple dimension exploration, space exploration, other planets in the solar system that you can fly to in a rocket, some really cool crafting mechanics for making a diverse range of new tools, magic, and a bunch of other fun machines (laser turrets, missiles, computers, etc...). They also nerfed equivalent exchange so you can no longer just mine one of everything and then produce infinitely many more of them out of common ingredients.

I think if I ever started a server again it would be a tekkit server for sure. Vanilla is great and all but I'm just bored of doing the same thing over and over with only incremental improvements in each new version.

I have been away for a long time and it seems that I have missed a lot. I just started playing minecraft again and was coming here to get the server info again only to find out that it is dead Such is the way of things I guess. Hopefully we can get a new server going, if it was in my budget I would definitely get one up and running.

Something capable of running MC is about 20 bucks / month.

If I didn't have a baby (and therefore zero money) I would be all over that like a fat kid on a smartie.
