About the water trap. Somebody has found a way to turn water on and off with out using a mad. There's a video about it on reddit and youtube. You probably need lots of redstone though, and it is probably very complicated, so it wont work in Multiplayer yet.

There's also plenty of glass at my place in one of the big chests on the first floor of the Storage area. About a big chest full. You're welcome to all the glass you want as long as you replace what you take with the same amount of sand.

It really is strange these problems people have with the furnaces. It has actually made wonder, maybe it has to do with the way the furnace is facing? There's a lot of other things, like water ladders, etc that are effected by the direction they are pointed.

Or maybe it is just because I only use wood as fuel.

Changing subject. Have people been stocking up on torches? The Halloween update will change all torches into lamps, be they on your walls or in your chests. So far I've filled almost two big chests with torches.

Better start now with grinding coal if you don't want to be fucked for resources when the darkness comes.

Errr Jim, do you mind sending me a pm with the server number... my pc doesn't save it so I've been copying it from the OP every time... Apt has changed the OP so I can't get in. (not moaning btw, I'm sure Apt had a perfectly legitimate security concern)

Edit: Or if anyone can pm me the server address. Starting to shake a bit....

Like you said, I thought it would be best to not have the address right out in the open for anyone to pick up. Don't know if it really matters, when Jim has to add you anyway, but better safe than ... OH MY GOD THE WHOLE WORLD IS ON FIRE!

I keep the address in a notepad file on my desktop.

Haha, since I've used so much flammable wood at the heart of my fort... I totally agree :)

Now that I've got a few chests of resources, I need to decide what I want to build.

Colloseum, Eternal Domicile-like structure, or a cathedral are what I'm considering right now.

Currently using Painterly Pack (The link is in the list on the first page) but I'm getting tired of it. I'm thinking of trying out one of the season packs or maybe something else.

the season packs are disappointingly bland. I tried them for about a day only to go back to painterly pack. If you find another good one, please let me know :)

As for torches, I've got a big chest full of them, so hopefully that'll be enough.

I've also made my portal room. It's a bit random as I had to adjust the construction to fit all the massive lava lakes that surrounds my area, but it got pretty cool in the end I think. Do anyone know how far away from the portal these Ghasts can spawn?

Supposedly, if there's not enough room the Ghast can not spawn. They need 5 blocks of head room to spawn... but may appear if there is only 4. So, a height of 3 if you want to be absolutely sure. Alternatively you could make a lot of pillars 3 blocks in between.

Same goes for Hell. You can build bases in Hell but if there's too much space under the ceiling you risk a Ghast spawning in your fortress.

Can any of you post screenies of your portal chambers please? I'd like to see what you've done.

I kinda copied the guy from that video. I sort of feel bad as it's not really my own idea, but it looks cool enough, and I may expand it more as I run out of other things to do.

AWESOME! I'ma have to start building me one of these -- my wall can wait. Haven't been playing much recently though; must get back into it!

I think I shall be building a secure portal room below my temple -- i knew I'd build it for a reason!

Anybody know which skin this is in the video? I like the cobbles.

I've got to go build me a portal...
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Here it is. Not entirely done with area just around the portal building itself. I've basically made it so the portal is surrounded by a 2 block wide wall of water on three sides. There's a dry area just in front of the portal just one block deep and 4 high.

Nice set up Morgoth. I like the narrow passage you've built, not taking any chances are you?

Regarding the texture packs, I've decided to try out Frenden's Graphics Pack for a while. I don't particularly like the way the torches, glass and wooden planks look, but it has a bright and simple look to it, kind of like the Zelda pack, but also different. I'll try it out for a while. All though any texture pack will probably run into problems after tomorrows update so maybe everyone will be reverting to vanilla.

Wow, nice stuff guys! Apt, how do you think up all your designs and then actually build them so perfectly proportioned (and also so huge in such a short amount of time)?

I've always been creative and I am good at visualising something in mind. The rest is just winging it.

The Tempel didn't take long, the over all build didn't take more than 4 hours I think.

EDIT: In other news, Notch has made a list of what he's managed to get done and what either will not make it or is uncertain.
