From what we've seen in the screen shots the portals should look like this:

http://minedraft.net...DMxLCJzbm93Il1d

Not sure of the bottom part is necessary. And of course it has to be built out of obsidian

As I understand it, a simple gate with the side pillars 4 high joined by two at the top, so uh, let's try this...

The o's are just empty space... the forum did not like my formatting with just spaces.

..ten blocks of obsidian basically.

I'm not 100% sure though, I'll see if I can find confirmation. I'm pretty sure you can just re-mine the obsidian blocks anyway.

The question is if there needs to be a bottom on the portal. From the one screenshot we can't tell if there was a section under the ground.

Easy enough to add afterwards if necessary surely?

AWESOME! I'ma have to start building me one of these -- my wall can wait. Haven't been playing much recently though; must get back into it!

I think I shall be building a secure portal room below my temple -- i knew I'd build it for a reason!

PC gamer has done a preview of Biomes and Hell The Slip.

There's youtube videos of how to build a gate and what The Slip looks like. (You do need to make a full circle of Obsidian).

http://www.pcgamer.c...pdate-hands-on/

Check out the link for commentary and screenshots.

First thought: Man that loading time is long. Portal travel is not as instantaneous as I'd like. Maybe it was just because it was the first time he was generating the Slip world and in the future it will load quicker.

The Slip looks less intimidating than I thought, I shall build a Fortress in the Slip I think.

umm apt, it's called THE IMPERIAL WARREN

And we need an army of moon spawns in there. For reals.

I hope the blocks from the slip retain their eternal burning qualities back in the normal world - awesome building opportunities.

Anyone else planning a little ritual area for their portal? It's too awesome just to randomly slap anywhere!

I am going to wait a while before building any kind of permanent Portal facility. I'm going to build one down at the bottom of my mine shaft to start with for tests. But I want to see what kind of inspiration I get from other peoples designs and just how these portals really work in practice.

I'm wondering. When you build a portal in the hell dimension it opens up a portal in the "normal" world, does that portal just pop up in the real world then? This would be an awesome way to breach an enemies perimeter.

Yes, I wonder about height too.

Like if you place a portal in the slip IMPERIAL WARREN up 50 blocks on a mountainside, when it emerges in happyland, is it still 50 blocks up or does it go down to surface level? Same for underground.

I am definitely planning a ritual centre to enter the IMPERIAL WARREN.

Also, Moon spawn outer shell 3/4 done now. I am *really* digging the look of it at the moment.

And I tried the Dokaru RPG texture pack, but I actually like the defaults better. Anybody have any good suggestions for other ones? I know you use some zelda thing right Apt?

how did he make it so the switch released water? I seem to remember doors blocking water whether they're open or closed.

You need to download a mod for bridge blocks -- if you watch that video in youtube, there's a link to the forum where the guy who did it is explaining them (and where you can download it). Going to wait until after the patch though, because any bridge blocks you have when the patch is implemented will cause MC to crash, apparently.

switches and redstone wont work anyways.

Hm, if anyone would be kind enough to make me a couple of stacks of glass I'll be willing to trade something in return. I've got enough of all resources known to man.

My furnaces still refuse to do anything. Dunno what it is.

My furnace does something... you put a load of gold in, fire it up, and it all disappears...
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Morgoth, you're welcome to raid my cellar, but I have a horrible feeling most of my glass is on my character at the moment.

That said, if you take my obsidian I'll sadly have to cut your balls off - although I think you have more than me anyway!

Otherwise I'll try and log on tonight to give you some (or just dump some in a chest in your castle if you're not about.)

@morgy,

There's probably a few stacks I that have zero use for in Moon spawn.

My furnaces work perfectly fine. feed in a stack of 8 coal and a 64 stack of sand, come back later and 64 glass. It is admittedly glitchy if you feed it coal 1 nugget at a time so just plan to cook a whole stack of whatever, add 8 coal and 64 sand (or iron, gold, cobble, whatever) all at once and just wait for the whole stack to be done. Putting in 4 coal and 32 of whatever works too, and 2 coal + 16 whatever etc...

I cooked every block of stone used on moon spawn so far with them. I wonder if it's something with your install making them not work cause I've used em over and over with no problems whatsoevver.

I know the little furnace progress arrow does not work at all in SMP, you just gotta leave stuff in there alone until the cooked object appears. It takes the same amount of time, only difference is that the progress arrow does not show the progress.

Regardless, grab whatever glass you want from my chests.

If anyone is hard up for obsidian, my mines have plenty to be harvested, if interested I will guide you to it.

NO glass to speak of, my furnace works, feel free to use it, break it up and move it to your base; I'll make a new one.
