Much as I like the idea of a new server for awhile, maybe it's easiest just to TP to a distant location in the nether and start from there. We won't be able to try the new biome settings, but folks working in way older areas (like Darkwatch & co) won't be left in the cold at least.

Messremb, any idea what direction we need to move in order to get into unloaded chunks?

I can have a go at moving spawn if it'll make it easier?

What biome settings wont we be able to try? AFAIK new terrain generation = new biomes?

I'll take a look round my local version and try and figure that out - I may take a day or two to do this though, getting busy here. Should be sorted out which way before 1.7 comes out, no going off pre-exploring though :)

Hmm...I thought worldwide settings like new biomes might be stuck at the point of world generation. From what I saw of the screenshots, some of the settings allow for "exaggerated biomes" where land height is drastically stretched in the vertical, and "huge biomes" where the borders are much much father apart than in the original. I doubt we'll be able to apply these to the server at this point, unless we stop the server, start a new area and then stitch the important parts of the old one into the new one at a later date.

If we want to try that, we should get RLY and Darkwatch's blessing before shutting them out once again. I think those guys mostly like playing in their original areas when they get a chance to log in.

Is there still some minor hassle involved in the update? I haven't logged in in a good while

I believe at 1.6 you're required to log onto minecraft.net and download the new launcher. The old launcher will not update past v.1.5....or something like that.

I may look into it later today if I can get enough work done to warrant a reward for myself

If you guys want to start a new area that's fine with me, we can always connect the new area to the old. If we are doing a collaborative build I might even start playing a bit again. Come April when baby kaiju arrives I will not be gaming much.

Suggestion on how to begin the new region: SethBling has a really good video about making a Starship Enterprise Ice machine, but the actual kicker (about halfway through the video) is the central map complex the people on MindCrack server have developed. Basically, I want, in a big way.

I haven't experimented with maps in forever. So each person just picks a chunk and maps it, then just stick it on the wall?

Kind of? I think it will need more coordination than that. I can look up a video with details once we get there

Okay, 1.7.2 is up and running. I'm going to reset all my kit and go flying looking for somewhere likely.

3750, 75, -5516 is where I've set up a temporary shack and started resource gathering. Forest biome, others fairly local. Horses by the hundred a few min walk away, not found a sheep yet though so no beds yet

So quick thoughts and notes:

I traveled north of messremb and found unloaded chunks, so we may need a reload north of where I am currently squating

What do we want to do (massive community castle vs community town center with shops on main street and houses on other side roads)? And what kind of terrain do we want our spawn center (I found a plains biome with lots of horses and surrounding woods, but not sure if people want something less vanilla)?

Currently, I was imagining a town center region where we could make shops (to trade goods) and houses (to show off our prized possessions and building skills) and then build our bases out in the "suburbs". I was also hoping to have a place for the center map (see above video) so we could have a way to keep track of people's turf and map out the roads (since large structures should show up on the maps...)

Anyways, Mess and I both have areas with beds from where people can take off. I haven't written down my coordinates yet, but basically, I'm directly north of Mess.

Ok, well, I have a crossroads created so people can start building a town around it. Have a deep mine and wheat crops. I still need to get the coordinates (maybe Messremb has them... maybe more on the ball in that regard than me).

Ooh, I like towns. One of the coolest things about the last town was how the lots were laid out ahead of time, and everyone had that space to work with. It forced people to be creative instead of just building big. I recommend doing that again. Maybe everyone gets one residential lot and one to build a business on?

I like that idea. I was also thinking we need to parse out the businesses (armory, grocery store, pub, etc).
