I just found out that you can make wool with string. I thought it was only used for bows. This changes everything.

Hahaha it always has my friend, although at 9 string to 1 wool it really is just easier to shear sheep :)

I've been playing with a design for a lot divived into a windmill and 3 farm plots, if nobody minds?
(I'm sure CF Bread Inc will atleast find it useful :))
I was looking at maybe one of the lots behind obdi/mes since neither seemed claimed, unless there are objections?

We do need to get going with the town farm. Not just wheat, everything.

Is it possible to pen farm animals? Or do they still just randomly spawn?

Probably a way to make a passive mob grinder, that would produce all the materials we need. We also need a regular mob grinder.

No they will despawn when the chunk gets unloaded, when 1.8 gets released though farmable animals will apparently be a feature. (I assume they'll function like wolves, tamed somehow and do not despawn)

I bought this game.

Have no idea how to play it. I just run around beating my hand on objects.
Help?

Watch X's adventures in minecraft. It is a very entertaining intro to the game. A bit dated, but you can get the basics from that and figure out the up-to-date content as you play

Right.... you guys don't want me running around in your world. I'm a hot mess at this game. At least I can build shit now though.

We'd be happy to have you on the server. It costs nothing. Just PM me for the IP when you decide you want to and I'll send you the general info/rules and whitelist your name

@Farm

I outlined a couple of plots in my map a few pages back for use as a farm. Even though they are about 1/2 desert biome, the sand could easily be mined off and replaced with dirt. (then the sand used in construction).

It also makes good use of the centre lot so that nobody needs to have a street thru their property for access to the centre.

But you can do whatever you like.

Oh, I have a bunch of seeds for use on the farm to save folks having to mine them. I think a stack and a half or so...but I can't remember if they're in my hut (in town) or in my inventory. If the latter I'll plop them in a chest near the farm, wherever it ends up being.

And CF's baked goods and other delights is open for business at the end of Whiskeyjack Court. Price for a loaf of bread is free. I have very limited supplies of cake baking stuff (lots of sugar and wheat but no eggs or milk). If anybody has stockpiles of those that they don't plan to use, you can leave em at the bake shop and I'll make em into cakes. Shouldn't need much wheat. I have a bunch already and once the farm is going it will be ridiculous.

i am excited for domesticated barnyard animals. That's an awesome thing for notch to add.

Oh, and a new zoomable map should be available shortly.

Rendered by Messremb and based on a backup from August 15th.

We also have a new player:
girspades who is a friend of RLYs. RLY vouched for his character so if you see him online, please say hi and help him out as best you can.

EDIT

new map is up

EDIT EDIT

I'm sure now the source of the massive lag spikes lately is the new map. It's fine as long as it's not being used, but if a bunch of people are on it, it suddenly destroys the bandwidth. I'll keep it up for the time being because it isn't too disruptive, but I'd ask folks to keep its use to a minimum and don't leave it running when you don't need it.

If anyone can suggest a site that will host 1GB+ files for free I'll put it up for people to download and run locally.

I can split it into smaller volumes if need be, would probably help my bandwidth and yours to do that.

I'll get a new town map up in the next few days too, there are a few more claimed plots to put up.

I have something like 8 eggs in stock -- a fortune really. Once I find them, and the time, they shall be delivered to CF's bakery. Cake!

I'll have to save some eggs - I usually just lob them in the direction of the closest person I can see.

How do we get to the map again?
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

@Traveller

Just put the IP into your browser address window. No www, No .com, just the ip. It should load up Messremb's map.

@Farm

A demon Llama (me2sek4u) and I leveled the farm area and mined the sand off the top of it last night, then replaced that with dirt blocks...mostly. It's kind of a 2 level thing right now and he's dug trenches to set up the lower level as a large wheat production farm.

Since we only have the option of growing cactus, sugarcane and wheat at the moment, that's probably the best use of the space. Upper level near the pond for cane and maybe a small cactus farm. If somebody wants to put up a little barn, silo or farmhouse you're perfectly welcome, but keep it small so there's lots of production room.

I also discovered a cave near the farm plot. I was hoping it would be cool, but it didn't end up being very deep. I've been caving a bit lately...forgot how fun it is when you can't just spawn yourself a porkchop or new armor.

Seriously, deleting myself from the whitelist was the best thing I did in a long while.

This seems relevant to our interests.

Also, though I'm not my most active right now I would like a plot in the town to build on later if possible :yes

@Morgy,

Can't open that at work. What is it?

Also, just jump online anytime and you can grab whichever plot you like. Here is the current town map. Green lots are as yet unclaimed normal-biome. Beige lots are as yet unclaimed desert biome.

Only modification is that the 2 half-desert lots adjacent to Noirtotem's lot are now the farm. If anybody is desperate for sand I have some in the small chest in the hut on my lot. Go ahead and grab some.

I also got a start on the road out around that side of town.

Up on the map is South by the way. I believe the coords of it are posted somewhere not too far back in the thread. Otherwise, it's very easy to travel there via the nether from the hub area. Messremb (I think) has placed colour coded lines on the floor leading you to various locations from the lava-fall fort in the nether cliffside.

You now have 5 Stacks of wheat, bake away good sir!

Next time I head back to my mountain home I'll fetch my eggs for you.

Thank you good sir. I think I have some eggs knocking around back at castle CF as well. Probably 5-6.

Turns out one of the more difficult cake ingredients is milk. You have to get under the cows somehow...like them up on a block and you below, get them to hold still for 2 seconds and click their udder. It's very degrading pursuing a barnyard animal and clicking relentlessly on its underside.

Is that even necessary? We didn't smooth the cliffs last time the world changed and I kind of like them, makes for an unexpected challenge when you're exploring sometimes.
