Is there maintenance being done on the server? its been down for a few days, or maybe its just on my end but i`m getting`` failed to connect to server connection refused: connect`` anyone else?

Hi guys.
must have been some unscheduled maintenance. I thought it wasn't supposed to happen until today and have no idea why the server shut down.
RL has been unreal-busy and I didn't even think to check on the weekend whether or not the server was running. Sorry about that.
It is running again now. Please post if there are problems.
And if you see it shut down, go ahead and PM me. I regularly pop on the computer to check email and I get malaz PM reminders through that.
I have been thinking of taking an admin assistant to help with server restarts and updates. Who is playing a lot these days and doesn't mind typing in a few lines of linux commands on occasion? There really is nothing to it at all.

It's a mod that adds a 'heavenly' realm travelled to via portal like the nether.
It adds a truck load of new unique blocks and items which add a lot to gameplay.

A friend in Perth made something similar - if you build high enough to hit the ceiling of his server world, it takes you to an air world where there are loads of floating islands (similar to that one) though without the unique blocks and mobs.

Notch posted on his blog a very good description of why the extended-height mods are trouble. Essentially it's a resource issue. And while functional on single player, god save you if you try to run a server with them. Unless your machine is amazingly rapetastic, or a university mainframe (one of my friends snuck a minecraft server into the CS department's cluster, for about a week before anyone noticed the resource use).

He didn't extend the height; hitting the ceiling was like going through a gate. Falling from a floating island drops you back through the ceiling onto the world below, but they're as much separate worlds as the surface and the nether are.

wasn't notch going to add something like this in an official update?
I'd be hesitant to apply such a massive mod to our server if it's already going to be included in the final release of the game.
