Okay. Finally got around to reading through the Freak Angels series. It's a bit slow. The setting is a bit strange. The characters aren't very bright. But it's certainly great quality both the artwork and conversations.

Agree with the above, this new twist with Luke, is some crazy stuff.

As a complete aside, Ellis is tweeting the World Cup and it is GENIUS...

@Apt - i suppose the answer to most of your points is we don't know but we'll eventually find out. Logically there should be a suitably genre-based reason why they were all born in the same area at the exact same time. Knowing Ellis, all their moms were at the same interdimensional penis-god orgy or something...

I take the inactive part and the disinterest in the rest of the world as the 'Angels being a) a little freaked out over what they did and :D pissed off at being put in the position in the first place. They are all just a wee bit egocentric and self-involved (understatement deliberate).

Arkady is by far my favorite freakangel of the lot. Completely oblivious and yet always in the now. My favorite frame is when she discovered the chickens.

Her and the Rapist guy.

Now that I'm completely up to date, it really hurts every time you're expecting your Freak Angel fix and all you get is a skip week blurb.

New ep up.

I hate you Warren Ellis.

In other news i read RED and it's pretty clear the movie will have nothing to do with the book beyond the thinnest of sideways references. Good fun tho hardly his best work.

More fun was the flip-book TOKYO STORM WARNING, which is brilliant giant mecha vs monsters with a heavy dose of AKIRA. Great short read and a Shogun Warrior kicks Godzilla in the crotch - what's not to love?

You know we really should just make a separate Freak Angels thread.

I dunno. FA is more or less the only thing Ellis does regularly so this thread would likely die if we moved the weekly(ish) FA discussion elsethread, and he's far from prolific enough to merit a subforum.

Thoughts from our 5-6 regulars??

It's hardly new. He's been doing it since the start, but the pattern is 2-3 non-hangers followed by one of these and periodically a series of them during an action sequence.

Now if i read upthread right, Tapper figures someone just shot Conner but Apt figures Conner just shot himself for a power-up. I have to admit i think the first is more likely but the second would be awesome.

]Well, they just spent 4 pages discussing dying and getting new powers. Then he goes inside and a bloody bullet comes flying out. I think he gave himself lead poisoning.

But then again... was he even the type to carry around a gun? The others seemed pretty trigger happy, but even despite the rival communities, the emo guy seemed more like a pacifist.

Abyss is right about my idea :p

Here's the reasoning:

Connor was under the assumption a near dead-experience caused the power-up, she only told him her theory was a dead-dead experience before he went into the house. So, it would be stupid to shoot yourself in the head just to test a theory, and Connor does not strike me as an impulsive guy. If anything, he had a lot to ponder, and one does thinking best without a bullet to the brain. Also, from her words, he was uncertain whether the death experience was enough or if straining oneself beforehand was also involved.

Nor does Connor strike me as power-hungry so why would he want the power-up?
I also don't think he is the type to have a gun lying around - it may have been in his bag when he tried to sneak off, but I doubt the community would want a fire-arm to leave the place, seeing how there is a huge shortage of them in the world.

If I'm correct about this, then my money is on Jack, personally. He's in a black mood, has access to a weapon store, knows they can't die, knows they will grow stronger, knows he made an enemy out of Luke, and Connor is very much the wild card amidst them - and one who is very likely to take a stand against Luke based on moral issues. Also, Connor and Sirkka are the least likely to level by themselves, so he may have decided to 'help' a little.

FINALLY! damn i mean i'm impressed that they get these up usually every week, but once you get used to something and then its taken away? i had the shakes these last two weeks. the freakangel shakes

anyway, thats a good theory tapper, i'm not completely decided whether it was a suicide or homicide yet, but im wondering about why jack would go off and shoot another person right after he's had an emotional run-in with sirkka, who im pretty sure he actually does love. he's already shot luke and probably hating himself something fierce for it. jack likes to play the tough lone wolf guy, but he's got some softness to him and i don't think he could just shoot connor like that. also, does jack even know about their death-resistance ability?

either way, i love a good murder mystery

My theory - the body on the floor next to Luke and Cass is not a body and is controlling a person.

Can we just forgo the spoiler tags at this point? It seems to me the people interested in discussing the FA comic all read it as it come out.

As for Connor

I think the key is his comment Connor makes about how it'll be Luke and Mark against the bald girl (can't. remember. name.). The way I see it, he's always felt a need to mediate between the others, to protect them in his way, right? If so, it's only natural that he decides he needs to increase his own powers to be able to continue doing what he feels is right.

@Amphibian - I've also been wondering about Mark. His body is finding its way into a few too many panels for my liking.

As long as this is not a freak angels thread, I think we should keep new info in spoilers. Since this thread is for other things that Freak Angels as well.

As I have only just caught up on the Freakangels (as of late last night) I thought I would throw my ill-informed two cents into the ring about the cliffhanger.

There seem to be two main contenders for what happened. Connor shot himself or Connor was shot by someone else. The argument that Connor doesn't seem the type to do it for a power-up seems almost watertight. But what if he wasn't doing it to increase his powers, but to see for himself the 'afterlife' images that Arkady showed him.

If all the evidence is that they can't die, and when they have a 'death experience' they see their future selves, does Connor as a chronicler not have the desire to know what is going to happen, to record the events, to try to speak with his future self? If we change his intention to acquire knowledge and experience rather than boost his 'package' (can't help smirking at 'boost his package', I am such a child) then it seems far more convincing that he would shoot himself.

However the question of the gun comes up. This seems to be the strongest indicator that someone else was in the room. I can't recall Connor ever having a gun. But it is entirely possible that one of Mark's pre-programmed drones did it. There are the two missing killers from the apartment that Kait stopped looking for when Mark arrived back. They are then floating characters which have been temporarily forgotten because the whole Mark being back is such a big deal, and in 103, with Connor talking to Arkady, he says 'Mark was programming people to help him with a Whitechapel take over. Kait's always aimed at the next threat like a missile. Mark's got people with weapons in Whitechapel....... There is no law that says he cant't run drones while appearing unconscious.' So I think it is entirely possible that one of the drones could have done it.
Trust me, I'm a doctor.
