My expectations are never that high for a show that features a star-faring culture that has yet to advance medical science beyond our own ability to fight basic diseases. That keeps me grounded enough to enjoy the show for what it is.

That said, this would have been the weakest episode ever were it not for the geritol fight scene between Adama & Tigh (not a spoiler since its in the preview ads). Sheer entertainment that.

It was a setup episode. But it seems at the current pace, it set us up for 3 episodes down the road.

I don't know why, but I thought it would get more and more exciting, but it's boring. Isn't this the last season? Anyone know when it's over?

This week was episode 8 (out of 20) in Season 4. And that's it. The only problem is that we're only going up to episode 10 in this batch. Episodes 11-20 may not air until January :o

Well, any theory that its physically impossible to have cylon-cylon union (other than hybrids like Hera) is most likely blown out of the water by

So my best guess is that procreating between the first 7 models is akin to incest, and forbidden in their "code". That would be along the same lines as it being forbidden to know the faces of the final 5. Sure they can do it, but for the most part they haven't gotten desperate enough to violate their programming that far yet.

The reasoning behind no incestual cylon offspring may have something to do with the fact that there is no way for a res ship to store or know the codes for cylon offspring. So you would have a theoretically immortal race begetting mortal children. Why bother when you can clone more of your immortal self?

Olmos owned this episode with his final line: "About time." Obviously going for the Empire Strikes Back approach there :o

The trailer for next week looks superb.

I don't know, but these past two eps have just been deadly dull for me. We've been reduced to an ep about Lee where the major action occurs around a fncking whiteboard, and then another ep where the plot basically consisted of standing around and waiting for the Hybrid to say something. Meanwhile, James Callis and Katee Sackhoff are being completely wasted. What an utter suckfest. I am so disgusted with how this show is going out. I guess it all goes back to New Caprica. It was a gutsy call to take the show there, but they just couldn't figure out what to do next...
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

This episode would have been 200% better if Baltar had died. That would have been an epic way for him to go down. But I'm not jumping ship yet with the promising teasers from next week.

So i'm all up to date and one to go for the year (thank you Striking Bastards! :o ).

The last three amounted to two really dull eps of moral arguement with a conclusion that couldn't have been more obvious if they had run a 'LEE ADAMA FOR PRESIDENT' banner across the screen for the entire combined 88 minutes... while there were bits that were interesting... Tigh and Six, Athena taking out Caprica 6 (the colouring book thing was just creepy), the bits and pieces hinting at whatever happened to the Rebel Basestar, and hey: Imaginary cat! :o . But otherwise slooooowwwww and not in a good way...

..and then the Basestar v Res' Hub ep that was all kinds of great. Rosalyn and Baltar, for all that they weren't in any action, were awesome in this. The whole Raiders and Vipers working together thing was great, and Deanna/Lucy is always a kick to watch - her mindfuck at Rosalyn was priceless. Halo having to woth with an almost-Athena Eight was a nice touch ("You're not married to the whole production line, Captain." - no, but a few hundred smut fanfic writers are running with that theme as we speak...).

Anyrate, i'm still in, slow-mo eps notwithstanding.

- Abyss, could have done with maaaaayyybeeee a few less minutes of Gata singing...

The new eps haven't been super forthcoming. I was sure they were going to blast the shit out of the nigh-dead basestar for a second though.

And screw cally. Her getting dusted by the president's aide was pure win. She was totally pissing me off with all her whining about "waaah I can't take care of the baby on my own" and generally giving the chief shit when he's the only thing keeping the fighter fleet together. She could have put the kid up for adoption on one of the other ships or...I don't know...NOT TRIED TO RAISE A KID ON A MILLITARY STARSHIP.

Bleugh. I wish the kid had gone out with her. You just know the thing is going to come back for an annoying scene or two before its all over.

Oh yeah and Hoshi dusting the six on the battlestar. That was great. She's such a loose cannon all the time. And looks good doing it.

I love the run of gratuitous executions.
It's like the writers sit in their little writer cave, and whenevr they don't know what to do next they whack someone!

- Abyss, notes you can never blast enuf people out of an airlock....

airlock deaths rank very high on my death-by-x favourites list to be sure. They threaten it so much in BSG...I wish they'd do it more.

Spoiler

[Not a spoiler] Lee Adama is the biggest Douche in the galaxy. If the writers ever get their game back, there will be a wonderful scene where his head is repeatedly smashed against a sharp rock--preferably by a drunken Saul Tigh.[/not a spoiler]

Actually, the 'Galactica 80' scenario of them finding Earth and it's the present day or near future or something was never going to happen. First off, because it's cheesy. Secondly, because they've been talking English the whole time, but presumably their language isn't actually English. Having Adama turn up and suddenly speaking Klingonese or something when shaking hands with Dubya would have seriously broken the fourth wall of the show. They got round this in Galactica 80 by having the Galactica crew have universal translaters, but that kind of magic technology won't wash in BSG.

The other option - of them arriving on Earth thousands of years in the past - would probably be even more obvious than what they did. Still, at least it makes a bit more sense now how Baltar was quoting Shakespeare and of course where 'All Along the Watchtower' came from.

Funniest thing is the number of people on the nets wailing about how the show's over and there's nowhere to go in the last ten episodes. Are they crazy? Unanswered questions at this point:

Who is the Final Cylon?
Where are Team Cavil and co?
Who are the Head-People-Things?
What happens to the fleet? Are parts of Earth still habitable? Or are they just royally screwed?
Did Earth have time to settle colonies of its own before whatever happened happened?
Who is the 'higher power' orchestrating things? Why did he/she/it want the fleet to go to Earth if it's just a wasteland?
How did a Colonial transponder get to Earth? Why can only Starbuck's Viper pick it up?
What's the deal with Starbuck what happened to her in the maelstrom? How did she come back from the dead?
What is the significance of the Opera House and the visions therein?
What is the significance of Hera?

I watched Cloverfield last night and couldn't help concluding that the monster wins after seeing this shot :)

Can Galactica's nukes succeed where the US Army failed? :p

OK, saw the summer finale. Now I think I see where this is all going. Still not wild about how its getting there (this ep, instead of standing around the Hybrid, we stand around Starbuck's viper and wait for inspiration), but it will be interesting to see how this finishes off.

Speaking of that, is there any projected date for the final 10-ep run? Is it really going to be in 2009?

From the SyFyPortal:"Chicago Tribune columnist Maureen Ryan has some good news: we may be getting a bigger dose of "Battlestar Galactica" in 2009 in the form of at least one telemovie similar to "Razor" and two additional hours tacked on to the end."
So there may be 12 episodes rather than 10 as the last episode is 3 hours long. Too bad we'll have to wait till 2009 to see it finish.
