Anybody else watch the first season? I have to say, after the miniseries last year my expectations were pretty low, but I thought the first season was awesome! I even got my wife, to whom most science fiction is anathema, to watch with me and she really liked it too. Can't wait for the second season, which starts here in July.

(I have a soft spot for this series because I'm old enough to remember the original series back in 1979. Even had a toy Viper Posted Image)

Any other fans out there?
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

Thought I'd resurrect this thread now that the second season (or season 2B or 2.5, however you want to look at it) has ended. Anybody else watching? I thought the writing this season was quite uneven and poorly paced, but unlike a lot of fans, I actually like the direction they are taking the series.

Now just gotta wait till friggin October for season 3/3A/3.0...gah.

I'm hooked on the series but behind in the episodes. I need to catch up by about 5 episodes and then I'll be done season 2!

Hmm might have to give this a look, I loved the old series and so was reluctant to watch something new as they normally fail to get close to the original genius

It would be tough to get worse than the original. :p Yeah, definitely check out the 1st season DVD, well worth it...

I'm a fan. Wasn't sure about some of the changes (starbuck and Boomer being female) at the beginning but I think they pull it off well. The writing/plot development is night and day compared to the old series.

Excellent series, but the "mystical" aspect they took towards the end of the 1st series left me a bit cold. I haven't seen any more than that. Good old Australia, we get everything years after everyone else. :p

Loved Dirk Benedicts' diatribe though. :p

I like both series for different reasons, and don't really compare them. They just happen to have the same name.

Cheers,

Good SF series.
Unfortunately, I could not lay my hands on Season 2 yet :p

Sombra:
Do not complain, we in Germany and Hungary have at least as hard a time getting our hands on stuff like BG.

It's fantastic. The first episode of season one is a work of genius.
And it has the courage of it's convictions - none of this touchy-feely crap if you're going to be grim, stay grim.
If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. Yeah. I thought the miniseries was a bit blah and I had pretty low expectations for the series, but when I saw the first episode of season 1 ("33"), I was hooked.

Anybody else see the season 2 finale? What did you think of (note to those not in US: here part 2 of the finale was a 90 minute episode, in the UK I heard they cut it to 60 minutes, so not sure what you missed)

Spoiler

How many episodes behind the US does the UK lag? I thought at one point they came out nearly simultaneously...gonna have to watch myself so I don't spoil anything for you.

I think the CGI is crap though, B5 has better CGI.

Space 1999 is still the king :p.

So I was on the BG website and it would appear there are 9 eps left to go...which means we're going to miss 5-6 of them as we'll be in the US by then. Anyone know what the rerun schedule is in the US? Does it air on Sci Fi??

Yes, it airs Friday nights at 9pm on Sci-Fi. Starting [EDIT - this coming Friday] they are re-running the season with at "Resurrection Ship, Part 1."

I dunno... while they don't do the 'battlestar unleashing all its weapons at once' thing nearly often enough, it's pretty impressive when they do.

B5 had large ships hitting each other with large weapons while smaller ships buzzed around. Plus you had lasers and all kinds of sf puffery. It was certainly more colourful.

BG is for the most part, all about the small fighters, missiles and machine guns. Strikingly different, but fun. More 'real', if you will. Still beats the pants off of 'Andromeda' where they mostly used bad CG and 'combat screens' with vanishing blips.

- Abyss, thinks it's all about Olmos.

Space looks more...'spacey' in BG, though. B5 always seemed a bit too bright and colorful.
