You can't add armour to your party members? Does that mean they look the same the whole time?

No they get armor upgrades as the story progresses.

You can give them amulet, rings, waist, and weapons (or shield) Just not Body Armor or Helmets.

@Stud - I certainly see what you are saying. I have found 2 pieces that go on sets for my mage so far, but no more pieces. I'm hoping that the next jump is only a year or two. I'm guessing that there will be a bit more away from the city much later in the game before you return to find it all screwed up, but I'm only 4 years in as well. Like I said, it isn't DO1+, Im not sure I love where they took it, but I certainly like it. I need to finish the story and play as a melee before I decide which I like better, but the better graphics is very nice and the mage, at least, is much more fun in the second one.

I sat down with the game for a little while after raid before sleep at 23:00... and I only stopped now, 7 hours later. I played through the gorram night.

Say what you will, for me the game has really some incredible qualities which I can't quite point down yet.
Time to sleep.

Played up until the moment where I can afford to go on the Deep Road expedition. I really like the feel of the city so far, and the two steps outside were kinda awesome. Chose to roll with the smuggler instead of the merc at the beginning, I wonder if it will make any difference further on in the game.

I love by the way how your siblings are styled to look a bit like you when you choose a non-standard Hawke look. Although my green-eyed red-hair has an auburn/brown haired/brown eyed sis.

Party consists as of yet of Bethany (hey, she's family - altho judging from the fact she has no rivalry/friendship option, I bet I'll lose her somewhere soon :(), Merril and Aveline.
By the way, what happens if you try to hire the Qunari mercenary from the cut scene? Additional companion?

I missed getting that Isabella rogue in my party. Apparently you have to get her before act 1 finishes.

I don't know about the Qunari mercenary, I did the 'funny' comment, and he is all like 'dont be a dick' and wanders off.

Bethany died on me at the beginning of the game. Did you lose your brother instead of her?

The brother dies if you play rogue/warrior and the sister dies if you play mage. So there's a balance.

I'm loving the story and the characters and I'm using everyone (like I always do). Heck I don't even mind that the whole thing happens in Kirkwall - even the side quests seem more connected to the main story (what with the constant tensions in the city). Loving it.

Finished as rogue yesterday. Was plenty of fun, I won't spoil anything though.
Attached is what is rogue's power. Single strong enemies, short of high dragons and such, don't really stand much of a chance.

what was it? not much more then a year ago when DA:O came out, I loved that game! but I really don't think 1.5 years was enough time to create a perfect sequel. they need time . I might yet get it, but so far have not heard any thing to sell me. maybe when steam has a 99% off sale ;D hehe

I can't stop playing it! Realy, really am digging this entry. Complaints above i think are valid, but i'm simply in it for the story. Graphics and the new dialogue system are really a nice touch as well. Have only played up to going to the Deep Roads with two different characters (my mage and rogue), and am gonna get started on my warrior tomorrow. Went the do-gooder roleplay route with my mage (other than helping out fellow mages whenever possible....not sure what consequences that will bring), and sorta an in-between with my rogue. Both were ladies, so not sure how much the story will change with my warrior being a male. Thinking of going the arrogant bastard route with him, but not sure. It will be kinda nice to see what will actually happen acquiring rivalries with my companions though, as i pretty much have tried to get them all to like me and pick my parties accordingly. This time around though, i should be able to roll with my favorite setup (Varric, Isabela, and Merrill) with no worry about how they react to anything. Very curious to see how that turns out.....

There is something to Dragon Age 2. There must be, at least twice I have stayed up late into the night (like 5 am). For all that I cant quite nail down what it is that is so engaging in this game but I can tell you what I am very disappointed with. I dont know whether the game was rushed, whether they were saving money or what but it seems like a lot of corners got cut. This game has received what can only be described as the mass effect treatment so comparisons between it ME and DA: O I feel are justified somewhat and inevitable. In Mass Effect I could hold conversations with every member of my party, in DA2 I am made to rely on codex entries to find out what my friends have been up to for the past few years whenever the narrative jumps ahead! What?, pathetic. Worse you cant even engage with anyone in the game outside of quests, dont try questioning your manservant, the NPC store owners etc. In ME2 and DO:A I knew my party, I loved them and felt they had personality. In DA2 when they disappear of die my first thought it to their combat ability and not the story and that to me is a step back from what this game should be. Never mind the constant reuse of enviroments and enemies!

My final disappointment is for the handling of kirkwall. We all know they story is about your rise to champion of Kirkwall and yet for me the city never comes alive. Unlike the Normandy in ME2 which I feel is the best comparison I never felt a sense of ownership like this is mine ad I want to make it better. I feel like instead of side quests that have me returning lyrium distillery equipment to dwarves so they can make super liquor, quest that have me strengething the guard, the army, ridding the city of crime or such would have been more appropriate. Instead it felt like my rise to champion was overnight and the intervening gaps whenever the narrative jumped was where the meat of my advancements and hence roleplayig happened but we dont get to see it.


Sadly the trailer for dragon age is also a lie! Nothing like the story and detail it presents ever happens in the game. Still perhaps I was a fool for thinking we would see any cutscenes like that.

AS I said all in all its an amazing game I just think it feels rushed. I was surprised t see a sequel so soon and maybe that surprise was justified after all. This post seems more negative then I feel but these flaws I feel are just glaring. Well either way they have set up an equal sequel with ominous hints from grey wardens so we shall see what DA3 can do.

@Gothos- Tell me more about this mage of yours! My Party suffered because I never got the charcters I needed, I missed out on recruiting Fenris and suffered other setbacks but even so my party was never that strong!

Huh, what? It's pretty easy to recruit every possible character. In that party in the screenshot it's Hawke, Fenris (oh my god how he rocks), Varric and Merril (goddamn maleficar!). Numbers come from Assassinate, and it's magic damage there because I had a dagger that did spirit damage equipped.

Yeah sorry I meant tell me about your rogue. My mage excelled at high damage to many enemies at once but I never saw anything like 2000 damage a shot against any creature in the game. Unless you used a cross class combo?

I missed Fenris because I went into the Deep Roads before I completed Bait and Switch. I never realized what the quest was actually about and had completed over 90% of everything available and thought stuff it lets just get going!

Finished it. Pretty happy at the ending. A big shocker... things are setup interesting for DA3.

I'm going to have to start with my warrior soon. Will hopefully get the female rogue this time I missed because I looted the quest objective before she told me to. Blah.

Time to go ass-hole do anything for money/power route and see what happens. 2H Warrior, the female rogue, and 2 mages, probably my sister and anders for the heals...

I have a question... my quickheal was always healing potion and elfpots are better. I purchased something like 75 but could never use them. WTF?
