Hi guys ! im here to find info about Karsa since im thinking about making a painting .
I would like detailed info on Karsas looks when he faces the reptilian monster

some of the things ive read about him is the following

cracked glass tattoo over face
8-9 feet tall
filed teeth ?
flint sword almost as tall as himself
one long braid of hair hanging down
seashell armor (does he wear that for this fight or does he get it later ) ?
loincloth ?
belt with ears ?

anything that can help me get it right would be appriciated =)
thanx in advance // Waith

he's about 5 feet tall, fat, bald, pronounced nose.
he has earings and takes the time to wear make up.
his sword is made of sea shells.

oh, and he smells of perfumes, although how you will paint that is beyond me.

all these fan art, while occasionaly it's pretty good, i never realy bothered to think of the appearence of characters,
unless it was part of the story.

That sounds about right Waith, the only things I'd question would be the sea-shell armor and loin-cloth. I don't particularly remember what type of clothing he wears.

Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

ok thanx maby he gets the seashell armor later .

found this on the web ill paste it here ...

'A giant of a man...his face tattooed like shattered glass. A long single braid hung down the left side of his chest. The man wore a cloak of bhederin hide over a vest of armour made of clam shells. The wooden handle and stone pommel of a bladed weapon of some kind jutted from just under his left arm. The broad belt over the man's loincloth was oddly decorated with what looked...like dried mushroom caps of various sizes. He was over seven foot tall, yet muscled enough to seem wide, and his flat, broad face gazed down without expression

and i guess he traded that bhederin hide cloak for the white bear cloak just dont know if it happened before or after the event im wondering about =)

He got the white fur in HoC, so he should already have it in tBH :p

That's a quote from the first chapter of tBH:

[...] An apparition, tattered white fur riding the impossibly broad shoulders. A sword of flaked flint strapped to his back, the grip wrapped in hide. [...] A giant of a man who walked quiet as a desert cat, a nightmare vision, a hallucination.

Also, remember to post your painting on the forums if you do one :p

Edit: Just remembered, the shell armour is, if I remember correctly, chipped in some places and the thick leather under-panels can be seen.

I've always imagined Karsa's body type to look quite like Sagat from Streetfighter. I don't want to color your painting a certain way, but the body sizing works in my head.

He has the fossilized seashell armor at the time he fights the lizard, as I think he made it in the Holy Desert during his time with Leoman. However, he's drawn and set aside his sword for that battle, so he'd likely have some kind of loop or half sheath hanging empty upon his back.

Yah, it makes sense for his shell armor to have come from Raraku.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

If it helps, after his face was tattooed, the guards described him as: " - he was ugly enough to start with, now he looks damned terrifying"

When he was fighting K'Chain Nah'ruk he didn't use his huge sword. He beat the reptile to death with his bare hands. And yes, he was wearing his white bear fur at that moment.

If you mean Bloodsport and Chong Li, I dunno. Bolo Yeung, the actor who played the Kumite champion was 50 years old then. Bolo was also about 5'8". Sagat in the video games is well over 7 feet, so it's a better scale for a Karsa image.

I always imagined Karsa being taller than 9 feet. I picture Icarium as being about 9 feet, Karsa being around 10 to even 11.

Hmm. Isn't he still a growing boy? Like from HoC to post-Raraku times he could very well have grown plenty.

Well I figure he's probably around 18 years old (relative to humans) at the start of HoC and just beginning his mid-twenties by the end of TBH. So yeah, he may have grown, but probably not by too much.

Actually that wouldn't make sense would it? A decade must be like one year for Karsa and that much time does not pass between HoC and TBH. I dunno, I'm still gonna picture him around 11 feet solely because I picture Icarium as about 9 and SE specifically says Karsa is the taller of the two.

In a Q&A interview - Pat's Fantasy, Interview #1 - Erikson said, that Karsa was a little over 8 feet tall

Well if Erikson said it then I'm obviously wrong. My perception of the height difference between races must be a lot bigger than said difference really is. Well the beauty of books is that I can still picture it the way I want, and I prefer to keep Karsa at 10 feet tall.

Then again, I may be mistaken but I thought Karsa was described as being double the height of a human, which would bring it up to about 10 feet. I swear in HoC its described how a humans eye level pretty much met Karsas waist.
