Coverage? With CL, PL, League Cup and FA cup, Tottenham will be playing some 60 matches or so this season. You'd not want a midfielder playing all them matches. That, and competition.

Yeah, but still... 12 million is a lot.

If Tottenham wants to stay in the top four, that's the sort of spending they'll be looking at. That said, I don't know if there's another position that should be improved before they go buying covers for 12 mill.

For Van der Vaart? Bargain I reckon
He was ever-present in a run to the world cup final, after all.
On the other hand, it depends how many times he gets himself sent off... he's not the cleanest player in the world!

Van der Vaart played only two matches, iirc, while Robben was still benched, plus the second half in the semis. Are you sure you're not confusing him and Van Bommel?

12 Million Euro was it not?
Being quoted as 8m in real money
And for that price, you can not by that talent.
I think he's gonna dazzle.

Also, Van der Vaart from Madrid to Tottenham, 12 million euros, if Harry can prove the deal was sealed before the closing of the market.
Premierleague.com says he did.
Good buy for Tottenham, then... although why you'd buy Van der Vaart when you already have Modric is beyond me.
Modric often plays a lot deeper than people think, and doesn't get many goals. I'm sure they'll be playing together, either with Modric on the left of a 4-4-2 (~with Bale at left-back) or in a 4-5-1.
"pseudoscience and superstition will seem year by year more tempting, the siren song of unreason more sonorous and attractive. Where have we heard it before? Whenever our ethnic or national prejudices are aroused, in times of scarcity, during challenges to national self-esteem or nerve, when we agonize about our diminished cosmic place and purpose, or when fanaticism is bubbling up around us – then, habits of thought familiar from ages past reach for the controls. The candle flame gutters. Its little pool of light trembles. Darkness gathers. The demons begin to stir." - Carl Sagan

He is a marvelous passer with a good long distance shot and first touch and has an excellent and creative through ball, but he is a bad tackler, slow, prone to overweight and requires a good understanding with the forward he is supporting. Also, Real priced him at 16 million 'real money' up until the day Tottenham sealed the deal when there were two or more candidates.

I'm not sure Redknapp will dare to play like that with Lennon in a purely offensive role as well, personally - Modric may play deep but he's not a defensive mid in any sense of the word, and Van der Vaart is a leftie as well, meaning that side of the pitch would be mostly offensively orientated. I know I wouldn't, myself.

Bale won't go back to left-back, at least I hope not. He may have started off there, but he is now certainly an attacking midfielder, more or less a full-out winger...

Every time basset-Jowls talks about Bale, he reference the fact he seems as Great future left back, this Winger stuff is just training.

I think you're underrating Modric's defensive abilities. It surprised me and all, but 'Arry's played him in the deep position a few times now. I mean he played there - alongside Tom Huddlestone, also, while big, not exactly a tough tackler - in a 4-4-2 formation against Arsenal, Chelsea and City at the close of last year, and Spurs won them all. Same again against Liverpool this year, which Spurs didn't win but should have. He's got a really really good knack for positioning for interceptions. And he's tougher than he's given credit for

Arsenal, Chelsea and City
That's not many games a year, I doubt very much Harry would successfully deploy him at CM in 4-4-2 vs Blackburn and Bolton etc.

Why not? What have they got that Chelsea haven't? He's tough enough to take a kicking and good enough technically to make them cry.

This is why Arsenal fans hate England. We finally let you have a player, and the one we do provide gets fucking injured ever single time he plays for the national side. This only confirms my belief that nothing good has ever happened in Switzerland. When a country attracts Phil Collins and Lewis Hamilton, you know it's hell on Earth.

I never thought I'd catch myself saying this, but... I've been quite impressed by Joey Barton this season. He's playing well, and, more importantly took a right kicking from Wolves last time out and didn't even moan once to the ref. A changed man?
