DoW was different... how? Get Influence and Power, turn it into units and upgrades, roll over your enemy. Controlling strategic points is just the same as gathering any other resource. Anything that made it feel 'different' was minor variations.


And get a real fucking computer.
It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly; who errs and comes short again and again; because there is not effort without error and shortcomings; but who does actually strive to do the deed; who knows the great enthusiasm, the great devotion, who spends himself in a worthy cause, who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement and who at the worst, if he fails, at least he fails while daring greatly. So that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat.

Haha my first real post on the Malazan forum and its about gaming :)
I'm an rpg gamer mostly, I like my adventure games and play mostly on consoles, doesn't mean I'm a lesser gamer :p

Sorry for all the smileys, the novelty will wear off soon I'm sure..;)

Anway in an earlier post someone commented on arcania, successor to gothic etc, I have only played the demo available on xbox live and so far its quite good, if you fully finish the demo takes about two hours.
Its not groundbreaking stuff but it fills the gap until the next elder scrolls game.... :p

DoW was not new so much as that it was the game that applied the hold-the-strategic-point formula well for the first time, imho.

gah, I too a break from studyoing tonight and booted up my Spellforce 2 expansion, Dragon Storm.

4 hours later.... damn.
that game is addicting, despite its simplicity (compared to the original)

and apparently, they're releasing a new expansion in January.... oh my....

So who's played Planescape: Torment? It's been re-released, and I've been reading a lot of 'best rpg ever' type reviews. It's available for about $6 online, just wondered what you thought - worth picking up, or just good
as nostalgia for those who already played it?
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Planescape Torment is one of the single best RPG experiences ever. If not the best, in terms of 'classic' computer RPG games. The trade-off being, of course, to do with graphics if you're a graphics guy. But I love Planescape: Torment just the same. :p

back to planetscape for a second- I see it is made by Black Isle, so does it play/graphically look a lot like Baldur's Gate?
