Ye Big Videogames Thread

Do any of you gamers have a "got to" game to help you "warm up", if you will, prior to getting into (back into) the game you are playing at the moment? I usually play about an hour or so of Black Ops 2 multiplayer before jumping back into the game I am playing at the moment. I figure if my twitch reaction is able to keep pace with 14 year old boys on their third can of Monster Energy drink then I should be able to handle any shooter type game I'm playing at the moment.

*note, this doesn't work so well for puzzle games.

Well... no.

Was already excited for Bayonetta 2 since the first one was such absurd good fun, but the recent reviews have taken my excitement to a whole new level. 9s, 9.5s, and 10s across the board.

Honestly, it's not exactly revolutionary. There have been games like that before. This one just has better graphics and more cinematic, over-the-top gore shots for the various executions the character obviously commits on a regular basis.


The thing is, while I can't say as I particularly want to play it, nor do I really disagree with it. Plenty of movies or books that have violent/psychopathic "protagonists". My problem is with whoever decided they would like to fuck the game industry over by creating a new poster child for the "games cause violence" campaign. Did they not think that this is inherently going to look bad and damage the public perception of video games?

Never mind that it's quite possibly an excellent outlet for people who are a bit...er...troubled, and might at least delay their desire to do what the game portrays, it's only a matter of time before someone who has been using that game to work out their violent fantasies goes and shoots up a town or something. Then cue the inevitable reversal of cause and effect and hey presto, the game clearly made a perfectly normal/otherwise non-mass-murdering person go on a shooting spree.

So unless it's a really clever but hugely vulnerable to backfiring ploy by the anti-game crowd to do just that, I can't really comprehend what motivated people to make it, going from the assumption that this was made by people who, you know, like and/or rely on the video game industry.... >.>

The head guy producing it used words such as SJW and political correctness in a promotional thing, so we can safely assume that A) he's an idiot, and b ) the game is going to be shit.

c) They're a bunch marketing geniuses, capitalizing on the current upset in the industry to ensure that the game gets maximum exposure.

10 bucks says they release a launch trailer with the guy killing a school bus full of kids or something similarly emo grim dark.

I doubt it. The phrases "SJW" and "political corectness" are the kind of red flags that makes it clear there's no point paying any attention to whatever else is said by that person. It's like "sheeple" and "wake up".

The thing is, if you look at all of the furor surrounding the whole GamersGate thing, those words are garnering a hell of a lot of attention. They most certainly do get people talking and paying attention to things, even if it is in a negative way.

My gaming time is a 30 minute slot between my wife and baby going to bed and falling asleep on the couch, so I don't have an hour or so to play warm up games before gaming. Oh, free time, you fleeting bitch, where have you gone.

Borderlands the Pre-Sequel is dangerously, nay, illegally Australian. Apparently it's full of references to Australian culture* from when they had some Aussie voice actors fill in for lines and liked it so much they went full roo on it.

Ha, I'm with you there RLY. I have an hour or so when everyone's asleep, if I'm not too exhausted at that point myself. And that hasn't happened for two weeks now. Maybe tonight...
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Bayonetta 2 is some of the most fun I've had gaming, ever. It's surpassed Ninja Gaiden: Black as my favorite action hack-and-slash game (in fact, even NG:B pales in comparison). Everything is so fluid, smooth, and responsive. Enemy designs are equally awesome, beautiful, and absurd. I can't praise the art direction enough. Rather than starting off simple and building toward epic fights like most games do, Platinum said fuck that model and starts off epic and then proceeds to one-up that awesomeness with even more awesomeness. Just when you think the fights can't get any crazier, they do. If you've ever played God of War 3, you know about the ridiculous scale that fights can take on, but those fights pale in comparison to what this game offers. Frankly, Bayonetta makes Kratos look like a little bitch.

It's unfortunate that such an amazing game will be enjoyed by so few people. I'm eternally grateful for Nintendo providing the funds necessary to make the game when no one else would, and I'm really hoping they sell enough copies to at least get a return on their investment.
