Hmm, Ok, I liked Darksiders, so it feels like I should wishlist it.

Bayonetta is a fantastic (and fantastically ludicrous) game - if Platinum knows anything, it's how to make a stylish action game, and Bayonetta is probably their pinnacle. It's a weird combination of the purposefully dumb (story, characters) and surprising depth (range of moves, combos, types of encounters and enemies).

I just used 300 wood to fix a bridge to open up a second beach - I assume the Community Centre reward is a different bridge?

I really need to build a furnace and get some proper tools. At the moment I'm just using the money I get to buy more seeds, and selling foraged produce. I need to boost my productivity. Is there any way of getting seeds from the grown fruit and veg like in Dragonquest Builders, or do you just have to buy?

It's the big bridge up past the mine to the East. Not sure what is over there yet but I got a cutscene that showed the forest people working on the bridge and I think I saw some ore.

There is a seed machine that you can put fruit and vegetables in but I haven't scrounged the resources for it yet. That's later game.

From what I've gathered so far, the best investment is the seeds that sprout and continue to produce after you harvest them the first time. There seems to be at least one expensive fruit or vegetable each season that costs a fortune to buy but returns the investment again and again over time. Not the best one but I think corn or something lasted for two seasons.

So, apparently Amazon leaked that Darksiders 3 is a game that is being made.

I am excite. Loved the first 2 games, it's filling that longing for a Gothic 3D action-adventure I've had ever since the Legacy of Kain ended on a cliffhanger with Defiance.

They just released a trailer for Darksiders 3. I suspect that was probably pushed forward because of the leaks.

I like the set-up but I'm not sure it actually fits with the timeline, does it? War was released to stop the apocalypse, he kills who ever it was and then we saw the three horsemen descending from the heavens in the final scene.

Is this supposed to take place in between?

What ever, I like the design of Fury. She doesn't like overly sexualised. Rather she looks like a bad guy, which I can get behind.

my memory is slightly spotty, but iirc:

In the prologue of the original game, War triggers the Apocalypse prematurely, causing the war b/w Heaven and Hell to start, b/c angelic shenanigans (and also Lilith, I think) all setting him up with the bait and switch of the 7 seals

So then War is imprisoned for a while, and Death goes to find the souls of humanity to redeem him and gets side-tracked fighting Corruption in Darksiders II. Meanwhile, War is released to atone for his sins and goes to kill the Destroyer.

So my guess is, just like Darksiders II, Fury's story takes place b/w the prologue of Darksiders and the time War is sent back for the main part of that game.

And yeah, it's nice that Fury is stylized. That face is too "fake" to be sexualized.

Yes, I've been reading some discussions on r/games and I guess it fits like the in between tale of Death. Pretty pumped for this but I think I'm also going to temper my expectations.

Gunfire Games supposedly hired/merged with a bunch of people from Vigil but this is an untested studio. Furthermore the publisher is THQ Nordic and I have yet to see them release a game that could labelled AAA quality. My impression of them is that they are ambitious and they have a lot of money, since they are able to buy up all these IPs, but do they have the money and chops to fund and market Darksiders 3? Time will tell.

My understanding is Gunfire IS Vigil- these are people who were left out of jobs when THQ went under.

Anyhow, Darksiders II was a pretty different Beast from the original. As long as there's a competent Gothic action-adventure as a result, I'll be happy; don't really have any serious expectations beyond that.

You made look them up:

https://en.wikipedia...iki/Vigil_Games

Quote

Vigil Games was an American game development company owned by THQ. It was formed by comic artist Joe Madureira and David L. Adams and based in Austin, Texas.
History

Vigil Games was founded in 2005 by Joe Madureira, David Adams, Marvin Donald and Ryan Stefanelli. Vigil Games became a part of the THQ family in 2006, and was located in Austin, Texas. Vigil Games was housed in Four Points Centre where THQ leased 33,000 square feet.

Although much of THQ's assets were sold in an auction as part of bankruptcy hearings, Vigil itself received no bids. In a letter written by THQ's CEO Brian Farrell, it was stated that Vigil would remain part of the Chapter 11 case and that THQ would still try to find a suitable buyer for the properties not sold in the auction, but that there would be immediate job losses in the affected entities.[1]

At the time of bankruptcy, Vigil was developing Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium.

In a posting on Twitter, PlatinumGames producer Atsushi Inaba expressed interest in acquiring the Darksiders franchise from THQ.[2] In the end, Nordic Games acquired the Darksiders franchise, along with the Red Faction and MX vs. ATV franchises.[3]

While Crytek planned to bid for Vigil due to its past work, owner Cevat Yerli ultimately decided not to because he felt that their current projects would not fit with the company's strategy. However, following Vigil's closure, Crytek would establish a new U.S. subsidiary known Crytek USA, led by David Adams and employing many of its former staff.[4]

Other former Vigil Employees have gone to work for Retro Studios,[5] Battlecry Studios, Certain Affinity and many others. Many of the staff also joined Gunfire Games, a company set up in 2014 by the studio's founder David L. Adams and Airship Syndicate, formed by co-founder Joe Madureira in 2015.[6]

I guess, because the studio name/brand itself was not transfered in the sale, the founders/employees just made a new studio. This makes me a lot more positive about the project. I thought this was being done under new leadership.

Also interesting to hear they were once working on another Warhammer 40K: game, A sequel to Spacemarine perhaps?

Are there any relatively new games that come near to capturing the awesomeness of Shadow of the Horned Rat or Dark Omen?

Not Mark of Chaos, it was a massive let down

Not sure since I never played any of those two but if you want fantasy Warhammer two games have been released recently.

There's a Total War game set in the Warhammer universe that was a big success, simply called Total War: Warhammer:

There was a Left 4 Dead-like co-op game released a couple years ago called Vermintide:

http://store.steampo...es__Vermintide/

And then of course there's a whole lot more 40K games.

So, apparently, there was this Kickstarted PC game, "Prey of the gods" , that was kinda Shadow of the Colossus-esque. But on PC.

It probably would've languished in obscurity forever, but it attracted the attention of the most ravenous predator in the industry: Zenimax' legal department, :p

Apparently, "Prey to the gods" is too similar a title to the upcoming game "Prey" (no relation to the mid 2000s shooter "Prey" , except that Zenimax owns the rights after gutting the studio that developed it and was making the awesome "alien bounty hunter" Prey 2). So Zenimax filed for trademark violation.

The devs changed the name to "Praey for the gods" (which is ok with Zenimax, ), and now the game is (reasonably) famous. It's being released in December, and I'm now mildly curious about it.

Gameplay for Darksiders 3:

For a pre-alpha game I think this looks really solid.

I think they need to do something about the Whip. It lacks impact and "size". I think they could improve it through the sound design when it moves and maybe some kind of trail of light or something, similar to Kratos chain swords. It probably also helps when you're chaining combo's by using other secondary weapons. I assume Fury will also come with the standard guns and melee weapons from the other games.

The Sloth fight was okay but felt pretty standard for a boss fight. If Sloth is one of the 7 bosses in the game, I hope they plan on adding some dialogue and personality to the encounter. Felt pretty jarring to just run up at a boss and start fighting with no presentation or knowledge of the creature.

I'm sure they are keeping all the story-related stuff under wraps. There's probably some kind of reward/power-up associated with killing Sloth as well. And don't forget, usually these boss fights have elaborate cutscenes (and sometimes QTEs), so i'm sure that's not the end of it.

What I've seen of combat is ok, but I'm not a big fan of not having the ability to block. Looks like Fury is relying completely on dodging, and that diminishes the combat system, no matter how well it's done- the option of blocking should be there.

Also, throughout watching the trailer I could not get over how much work they've put into animating Fury's hair. It feels a bit ridiculous tbh.

It's on PC, so it automatically beats God of War in my eyes, b/c I don't need to get a console for it.

PC gamers don't get a whole bunch of 3d action-adventures (not since Legacy of Kain stopped). Essentially, Ubisoft (Prince of Persia) and Eidos (Legacy of Kain, Lara Croft) were the only ones making them, before THQ ported Darksiders.

It may not be "the best", but it's a solid game. Second one suffered from a bit of bloat imho, as they tacked on open world (which mostly worked ) and a Diablo-like loot system (which was kinda meh)

Speaking of which, I really need to finally play the Sands of Time trilogy....

I agree, Darsiders, one and two, are not great games, but they are good, solid, fun gaming experiences. Not amazing but fascinating. The first game mixed so many different concepts and genres into one game and mostly did it successfully.

Some would argue that Darksiders did Zelda better than some of the 3D Zelda's (I haven't played enough Zeldas to comment on that).

As for the Sands of Time trilogy I never got past the first game. The first game is great. A really cool self contained rethinking of the original Prince of Persia game. The second one was the nu-metal, emo teenage version of the first game. The PC version controlled like garbage and as such I never managed to get past the intro sequence.

That said, I wouldn't mind if Ubisoft put Assassin's Creed on ice and released some new Prince of Persia games. Just think of what a 10 year jump in technology and gameplay design experience could do for the Prince?

They also released a 3d Reboot in 2008 and a movie tie-in (Forgotten Sands) in 2010. ...

....
