Yeah so far it's all pretty divisive. Going to keep an eye out but I'm hardly any distance into Dishonoured 2 so I'm going to keep playing that and maybe by the time i actually get round to Andromeda it'll be patched up a bit...

Everything about Andromeda looks rough. The animations, the character interactions, the dialogue, the UI, the game mechanics. I am hoping out for hope that the core remains strong. The game looks like it did in the early 2010s. As long as the exploration and branching narrative remains intact I am hopeful.
I'm sort of happy it seems broken. It means I can go play Ghost Recon or Styx 2 instead.

Didn't Ghost Reckon also get slammed as rather dull?

First looks at the new Mass Effect does not fill me with optimism. The dialogue is so very clunky! What happened to the writing of mass effect 2?
I was not impressed since they showed the first gameplay videos. The physics was off. No sense of Collison, even from a bionic charge. It looked like dragon age inquisition in a bad way. The love for mass effect has kept me interested but I'm def stating to become more and more concerned.
The one thing people seem to agree on is that the combat is good. But when I watch it, it looks average at best
The thing is, I don't really care about the combat that much. I mean, I enjoyed zipping about as a bionic death machine in ME2 and 3, but for me the game was about story, characters and discovery. Combat was something to get through to future the story. I fear that in this game it's the other way around, like in Inquisition.
I could easily have dealt with those animations too if the writing and voice acting was any good, but what we've seen so far does not look promising.I am surprisingly depressed by this.

It did. It's the most "ubisoft" Ubisoft game I have ever played but it has a few things going for it. It's an open world check box game which I love to play with a podcast in the background. And it's a shooter, I love shooting games.
Speaking of Mass Effect though, I just read today that it's not the original studio that made Mass Effect 4. Rather it's Bioware Montreal who developed the Multiplayer for ME3. Which explains why everything is fucked up if they didn't have the sufficient experience and knowhow available.

Being a multiplayer studio might not lend to a great deal of experience in writing either. *sigh*

I just read an article that suggested bioware wanted mass effect to end as a trilogy and were not interested in doing the sequel. EA seems to have pressured them to grab the money. Might explain some things. Like why the multi-player division made the game etc

EA didn't pressure them to do anything. EA owns Bioware.
This isn't something you can blame the evil publisher for directly. The developer is in charge of making the product. The product sucks.
Now, maybe EA forced them to stick to a certain budget or set unrealistic goals for the studio, but something serious has to have gone wrong for Bioware to release a product that is that obviously flawed. Like, nobody in charge of making that game, could possibly be proud of how those character walk, talk and look in 2017.

:-D I was just thinking the same thing, would spare me spending ~100 more hours of my life in ME. (But I will probably end up playing it anyway. As long as it is ok-ish)

I keep thinking I need to re-install Mass Effect and try playing it again. ( I bought it ages ago, before EA Download Manager became Origin. But back then I was gaming on a laptop without a dedicated GPU, so the game refused to launch (but I was able to run Witcher 2 on same laptop @ 15 FPS, go figure). I never bothered with it since, as I have a hard time getting into any Bioware game).
At least to see the what the fuss is all about.
But I don't like 3rd person cover shooters (Alpha Protocol was okay, but that's cuz I could just use the crouch button without using the sticky cover).
Also, these days I'm throwing more and more gaming hours into AoE2 HD with no signs of burning out any time soon, so ionno..
Also, another preview/impression that feels Andromeda is okay, but not impressive/borderline mediocre:

Yeah, I'm also starting to get a bit worried about the new Mass Effect. I think it will be fine, but I was hoping for something more than fine.
At least I've still got 2 and 3 to play through. I played the original Mass Effect when it first came out and absolutely loved it, but for one reason or another never got around to playing 2 and 3, despite owning them. Might actually do that now.
Nier: Automata looks both amazing and completely stark raving bonkers. It's been getting way better reviews than I expected (I think it's around 90 on Metacritic). Pity that its sales are almost guaranteed to be middling at best.

The most recent marketing I saw for ME3 was all centred around the sex content.
I don't know why this is even an element in the games; it's just cheap. Seriously, does anyone actually like having to fulfil a set of objectives in order to boink some NPC characters?

Have to admit I do as well. In fact, not just the boinking, but building a 'relationship' as well. Especially when characters are written well (like they are in ME). It can even be a stronger motivation to progress than the main story goals.

I generally enjoy learning about the companion chars provided they are interesting (some in DA:O. Everyone in Planescape torment)
The actual "romance" angle... meh. depends how it's written into the game. (Alpha Protocol was Okay. Later Witchers had it fit the setting (One was pretty disastrous) . DA:O was kinda cringe-worthy)

DA: Inquisition had several memorable and varied romances (which didn't just end with you hooking up) - best of that sort of thing I've seen in a game.

The reviews for Mass Effect: Andromeda are looking luke warm. Not terrible but not the brilliance of the first titles:

The reviews I've read almost all say that the first few hours are a slog and that there are some aggravating UI decisions, but after you get past that it gets very good.
