I've been on a bit of a Kickstarter Binge recently....

http://www.kickstart...7657/raindrop-0 -Raindrop--A first-Person survival horror Puzzler. A game that's like a mix of S.T.A.L.K.E.R and Myst.

http://www.kickstart...742/the-mandate The Mandate-which is like a Mass Effect, but set in a Freelancer-type universe. With Space Tsarist Russians as the main actors!

and also this: http://www.kickstart...ce?ref=category -Universum, which is a Starcraft 2 clone, but it's made by basically 1 guy, and it looks pretty amazing. The game's already cleared its very small initial goal, but more stretch goals mean added content and extra campaigns, so I'm hoping this pulls in lots and lots of cash money. And if nothing else, it'd give me a modern RTS I can play offline.

The Mandate is pushing all the right buttons for me - which is why I won't support it. It just sounds too good to be true. Or rather, it sounds like they're trying to do too much. If they somehow manages to tie together all those game mechanics and inspirations, and add a good story to it, it'll be amazing. But more likely they'll do a mishmash of the bare minimum or several disjointed elements that makes you love a little bit of the game but pine for the potential lost because they couldn't finish it all to the same standards of the bit you love.

I've also been on kickstarter today, though, backing a project called Rimjob. No, wait, Rimworld it's called. Also scifi, also pushing many of the right buttons, but much smaller in scope and apparently having a working game already (with a forum of people who've already played it, not just the developer bragging). On my mobile so I can't be bothered to link it, but I would argue it's worth the google search. [edit on a desktop: Link to Rimworld]

Also, we should have a Kickstarter thread, where we can discuss interesting projects and development of those we've backed. Someone with mouse and keyboard do your duty!

Thankfully, there were less people like Bryn in the world, and mandate got funded with 4 days to go. the latest Dev diary "Anatomy of the game" is a pretty nice overview of the game's layers.

I've failed to plug another title I've backed since. It's galled Greywalkers: purgatory, and it's a post-apocalyptic RPG ala Shadowrun (or Arcanum), where you've got magic and tech co-existing. it takes place after the Biblical Apocalypse, Darksiders-style. What seems to be the coolest thing about this one, other than the setting is that they were trying to create an immersive world, by creating an interactive economy of actions (it's hard to explain, better to watch the pitch video) http://www.kickstart...lkers-purgatory

the project is in its last hours, so i don't see it making it, but I hope they try again, because it's a pretty cool idea, imho.

I've also backed another Infinity-engine style RPG by a Spanish dev team that's called "Lords of Xulima" I can't say what particularly made me pledge to this one, it was just overall a very neat and well-organized KS pitch, and they only asked for 10K. It hit the goal, but they're working on some stretch goals and got 36 h to go--check it out!
http://www.kickstart...gods-and-humans

i"ve ALSO backed an RPG-adventure game called "Bloom". This one tries to be more about exploration than combat (which is good, because in some games I find combat to be tedious), and it also want to incorporate "Thief"-inspired stealth aspects. The whole idea of the game is to make an exploration-based RPG where violence is not the best answer.
This one's got 12 days left and needs another 7 K they've got a pre-alpha engine demo running

So, in EU4 I have learned that westernizing can be a pain when Your brilliant king dies just after you begin at the age of 30, and that his heir has 0/1/4 in stats.

This will be a long, dark time for Russia.

Good Guy GOG has introduced money back guarantee for all games if it doesn't work on your computer.

Quote

Announcing Our New Guarantee!
Game doesn't work for you? Tell us to fix it! If we can't we'll give you your money back!

So, you bought a game on GOG.com and you've run into some trouble launching and playing it on your system, despite the fact it meets the specs we've put on the game's catalog page? This happens rarely, as our test lab does its best to assure your experience with our titles is as smooth as possible. But it does happen. And when it does, we want to give you the best support you'll ever get from an on-line store. Just navigate to our Support section--it's quite possible that the solution to your problem is already posted there. If not, just fill in a ticket describing your troubles and our top men will do their best to fix it all for you, so you can enjoy your purchase.

But what if they cannot find a solution? If such a rare event should occur, we'll give you your money back. Simple as that. If you buy a game on GOG.com and find that it doesn't work properly on your system, and our support cannot fix the problem, you get a full refund. It's a worldwide guarantee, and you have whole 30 days after the purchase date, to contact us about the refund.

There's even more! If you bought a game by mistake, or simply changed your mind about a purchase, you can get a full refund within 14 days, as long as the game wasn't downloaded. If in any doubt about our refund policies, please consult our FAQ.

We hope our Worldwide Money Back Guarantee will make you feel secure while you expand your DRM-free catalog on GOG.com. Having that said, we're confident that our titles won't give you any trouble in 99.9% cases!

NOTICE:
Even though this policy is introduced today, its effect goes back 30 days. If you bought a game within the last 30 days and have any of the trouble described here, contact us! We have you covered.

Source.

EA's Origin is also rather good on money back offers. Hopefully this will create enough competition for all outlets (*cough cough* steam *cough*) to implement something similar.

Some studio no one has ever heard of recently published this as a demo/teaser of their next project and it's been making the rounds across the blogosphere. Looks like a super-procedurally-generated space-and-planet exploration game (with space combat)???

EU4 still, playing Najd on ironman. My goal is to unify Islam, and after a few false starts I've finally managed to unify the Arabian peninsula, mainly through the extra income I acquired from conquering most of the African Horn.

Originally I pulled through by using my alliance with the Mamluks for all it was worth. Now that I've grown to a regional power I've shifted my alliance to the Ottomanns, as I expected the Mamluks to turn on me. They just declared me a rival and broke our alliance, so any day now I reckon.

I had hoped to expand into India, and use the manpower from there to conquer Istandbul and Cordoba, but Vijyangar (spelling?) holds most of modern day India already, and can field more than twice my current army. I'll need more of a technological edge than I hold currently.

I saw that - it looks amazing! It'll be very interesting to see what the end product will look like. The whole thing looks insane for a small 4 man team.

Reportedly Sony has reached out to them, as part of their indie programme. Maybe they're so impressed it will some funding.

Yeah, I read somewhere that the developers are positive to the new indie initiatives from the next gens.

Seeing as the amount of activity they see fluctuates wildly, I thought I would simply move the Steam Sale threads into the big videogame thread instead.

The Big Steam Winter Sale is live and will run from Dec 19th to January 3rd.

http://store.steampowered.com/?cc=GB

As always don't buy anything if it isn't a part of the Daily Deal or the Flash deal/Vote selection. It could and probably will get discounted further at some point during the sale and you will be sad if you spent 30 euro when you could have spent 10.

I bought a bunch of stuff earlier in the month so there's not a lot of major games I am looking for how ever there are a bunch of smaller games on my wishlist that I am looking at.

Interestingly a lot of the games in my wishlist are already discounted by 66-80%, even if they don't get further discounts I think I will end up buying at least a dozen games under 5 euro

OMIGODOMIGODOMIGOD REVENGEANCE IS COMING ON PC FUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCK YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

I bought the Stanley Parable (spelling?), hopefully it'll be as intriguing as it looks.

I am still holding off on buying the Stanley Parable. It sounds like something special but the relatively short playtime it offers makes me hesitate.

By all accounts it sounds like the game is Game of the Year material but I am not sure I want to pay more than 5 dollars for it.

Hard Reset, anyone? £1.50 in the Steam sale. Is it good?

No idea but for that price I'm game to try it. Shooter with no multiplayer? That's my sort of game.

I bought it, heard good things but haven't had time to play yet.

Also, Secret World is pretty cheap ATM, which is a B2P mmo about current times and Cthulu mythos and stuff.
