Who/What is Silk?

Hey everybody,
I'm a long time reader but a first time poster. I can't find any posts on this subject, so I hope it's not already been settled or dismissed.
My question is: Who is Silk? Is he someone that we have seen before or was ROTG his first appearance? He seems to have some ties to Light* (his spiel when defending against the fire mages, his unleashing the light warren, his general appearance) but he seems to lack the zealotry, bigotry, and over-confidence that seems so typically Liosan. I wondered if he might be L'oric but I can't remember what happened to L'oric. Then again maybe he is just some random new character who may or may not have been an uber mage from the pre-Lasseen days. Anyone have any thoughts or speculation?
*I'm really sorry that I'm not using the right jargon, but I don't have my books anywhere nearby.

We haven't met him before. It seems Li Heng was traditionally consecrated to Kuruld Liosan, so there is probably some link to the Liosan or Osserc. I think Silk is just a mage /priest of Light, and in the temple/palace? he was capable of tapping more fully into the Kurald Liosan warren. And whilst L'oric may not be quite as openly arrogant as normal Liosan we have met, he certainly isn't modest, just has a bit of a daddy complex.

Well if you're still partway through reading RotCG then you'll just have to keep reading and figure it yourself. Silk mostly explains himself pretty thoroughly not too long after that event.
If you're done:

The interesting thing about Silk is that aside from the 'special cases' of Quick Ben (with 12 souls that may or may not all be completely human) and the sacrificial Nameless Ones (who could have been pretty much any race or part thereof) at the prologue in TB, he's the first human we've seen who is a High Mage of an elder warren.
Sure, later on we see Heuk use KG, but Heuk is a High Priest and that's not really the same thing as being a High Mage.
To my vague recall there was nothing to suggest Silk wasn't human (albeit long lived as High Mages are), but i could be wrong on that point.
So, as far as i can tell, Silk is a human Kurald Thyrrlan/Liosan High Mage who has been around for a long long time, possibly back to the human First Empire.
- Abyss, ...still thinks 'Silk' from the Belgariad was cooler...

I went on about this once - the way Silk invokes the powerd of KT makes it sound a lot like he's actually a priest in that respect (note he might still have magical ability to human-accessible warrens). He is kind of granted the devastation wrought by KT, he tries to _summon_ the power of Osserc or FL or whatever.
So I think in regards to Elderness he is more in the league of Heuk and Mallick, rather than a whole new phenomenon.

Personally I feel Silk, much like L'oric is a Liosan in disguise. His explanation about how He just used some lingering KT power convienently lieing around sounds very suspicious to me. His outburst before blowing away the rebels sounds very much like something a Liosan might say.
" Ah, I despair, or I would if I cared enough. No, instead, I will make some ashcakes. Which I will not share."

And he apparently uses Timotei and gets all the girls.

If he were Liosan, wouldn't he have been killed by a falling tree branch or something? =P

L'oric - gets stabbed in the back
Osserc - wets his pants when Edgewalker farts in his direction, has his power siphoned by a warlock and gets repeatedly bitch-slapped by Rake (slightly mitigated by the fact he blows up an Azath)

Where is the bit when Osserc flees Edgewalker or whatever
Anyway I think the Protectress of Li Heng was a TL and Silk simply unleashed the bits of the temple that was left. All this fallen glory and one last hurrah talk from Silk plus the fact that the Protectress was in charge of Li Heng for like a thousand years. It makes sense when you think about it rather than Silk being the Liosan though both are plausible.

TCG,I believe. When Kilmandaros recalls one meeting with Osserc.

if the scene i'm thinking about is the one we're talking about, then it's in DoD.

It's definitely in DoD, not long after Errastas meets up with Kilmandaros and Sechul Lath I believe.
