Hah, I'm too close to peasants to have a tabletop army. But hell, Space Marines would stand and fight allright :>
It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly; who errs and comes short again and again; because there is not effort without error and shortcomings; but who does actually strive to do the deed; who knows the great enthusiasm, the great devotion, who spends himself in a worthy cause, who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement and who at the worst, if he fails, at least he fails while daring greatly. So that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat.

They're the most Space Marine-ish of them, too. Plus, I don't think you're giving the Ultramarines due credit. After the Heresy it was pretty much Roboute's badassery and integrity that had saved the Imperium from collapsing. Ultramarines have also carved out something of a normal life for those living in Ultramar. Basically, UMs are the most 'good' part of that galaxy I can think of.
Also, so very, very Roman.
They do seem to be the favourite pick in games anyway. Final Liberation, Chaos Gate, the movie, now this.

In any case, I'd say Imperial Fists seem more boring to me. Or I just abhor the colour scheme...

Wait a second. Never mind the Ultramarines....the Orks are attacking a FORGE WORLD. Which, if memory serves, would make for one of the most defended planets in the Imperium, outside Holy Terra itself. Not that the Orks couldn't try, couldn't get feet on the ground, but that seems more like a campaign suited for Dawn of War, than "one squad versus the world". Hell, the Battlefleet of the Sector would be important, and you'd have the whole problem of Orks breeding once they're there, forever...on a forge world. :S
Moreover, why, WHY do games always have to translate 'grim dark' and 'gruesome' and 'gory' into 'bright splashes of blood and limbs falling off'. Why can't it be, you know, GRIM AND DARK BLOOD AND LIMBS FALLING OFF. Argh.


But, never the less, a third-person-shooter W40K game. SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

I was always a Dark Angels or Blood Angels man myself. Although Space Wolves were pretty cool.

Hopefully Silencer they'll have a rationale for what's going on. Presumably the other forces then mention have drawn away the defending fleet.

Quite frankly I don't think I require an excuse to jump into Warhammer 40k action in any shape or form just because it's Warhammer 40k and it doesn't have to make much sense.

Also, Dark Angels, yes. Space Wolves are awesome too. Though I have to say that Blood Ravens are an awesome addition to the setting from DoW.

A dark Angels game would rock hard. Especially if they'd make it more RPG-like, with the focus being on finding the Fallen.

ultramarines are "meh"

the only thing I respect them for is for going toe-to-toe with a Tyranid hivefleet. on their homeworld. and holding it back.

Total Biscuit got his hands on demo version for PC. I think those of you who were worried about a bad PC port can put your worries to rest. All though I am not exactly as overcome with glee as the cynical brit gets here I have to admit it looks good.

In terms of game play or in terms of setting?

I agree that it is not nearly grimdark and brutal enough for it to be true WH40K but for a videogame meant to appeal to the broad masses I think it does well for itself.

Setting, mostly. It's far too cartoonish, imo.

As I said, it looks fun. It just doesn't look W40K. It's silly fun, basically. Which is cool and all, but pretty much only a small step up from what I thought it would be. XD

I'm pissed the marines aren't wearing helmets though. It makes no sense and is the only thing nagging at me about the game.

They're Ultramarines, what did you expect? The name alone is cheesy and invokes more Power Ranger vibes than grittiness. When are they going to do something with Jhagatai's horde?
