i'm not sure, because esselmont's writing is either confusing, or i missed some parts here, but is traveler following on the footsteps of tth ?
i assumed yes, because of the events in unta, but still, i'm not sure how he was captured by the malazans and handed to the korelans to man the wall.
even less sure how he got away.
something is off here.

Traveller's timeline up to TtH:
-Traveller accompanies some marines to Drift Avalii and destroys some Edur
-He stays there for a while guarding the ToS
-He builds/takes a ship and heads south
-The Korelans take him and put him on the wall
-Ereko frees him and they go south, kill more Edur, build a ship
-Kyle and the Lost show up and they all sail to the Dolmans, having a fun encounter with Jhest along the way
-At the Dolmans they dig up Kazz, Ereko dies, Traveller fights Kallor, then they leave and forget Kazz's body but it's fine because Kazz catches up with them a few minutes later before they leave
-They sail north and end up in Shadow where Traveller agrees to do ST a service in exchange for nudging him to Hood
-Traveller goes via warren to Quon and fights Skinner (the service for ST)
-He goes and gets a boat and sails to Genebackis
-The ship is stormed up by Mael and he winds up shipwrecked and the beach

I have ALWAYS found it odd that Traveller considers going to war against skinner
fair exchange for a hint to hood. In TtH We get the gist ST wants him heading to hood
ANYWAYS and traveller seemed to suspect it. how is going way out his way to
fight skinner, whom he really doesn't have any business with, serving either ST
or Traveller?

ummm, I don't think that it was a service for ST .... more a case of he was in Quon as Lord of Tragedy and the Skinner thing was done in response to seeing the last two of the sword (Temmper and Sweetgrass) standing up to the Guard that got him there... as he does say in a quote... (not got book at hand) that it would be something those two would do...

Thanks for the summary D'rek, I was also wondering what Traveller's movements were pre-TtH.
What exactly happens though with his boat getting shipwrecked? Does Mael cause this deliberately, if so why?

Mael doesn't want him on Genebackis. Or, wants to slow down his arrival on Genebackis. Why? So he can't kill Hood, presumably.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....
