The next question is: Do you have a secret bunker, fully stocked with tinned goods for when the invasion begins? I bet Nicodimas does. Did you remember to pack antibiotics?

I am glad people are starting to think about long term sucess should a true crash happen.I know I have a bugout location picked out and am looking for plan B alternative locations. My main plan is to Bug in and not become a refugee as you will have less rights if it came to it.
Antibiotics and Disposal of stuff are the two parts of TSTF that are tough to figure out with long term sucess. I liked what One Second After said about Antibiotics/Medicine and the sheer amount of people who would die to this scenario. Taking good care of yourself and your teeth are two extremely important things that everyone should do to prep. I always got a kick out of it in The Postman that he was always worried about his teeth rotting out and killing him. In my Zombie Apocalypse Gulch we have a Doctor/Dentist for this reason, but are always looking for more people to strengthen the community.
Once you get really involved in preping you really start gaining the apprecatition for having a community set up, because there is no way a single lone person is going to make it. Something goes wrong equals death by yourself/or a small group.

So you would recommend people having a healthy appendix removed as an elective surgery to avoid the chance of it going septic and killing them after the fall and there are no doctors?

Hence the reason it is a good idea to have a doctor/dentist friend already on hand, who understands the importance of being a preper. Ultimately it's your life and you can choose anyway you want to spend it. I choose mine living in perfect peace knowing me and my own are safe because we are all preped and ready. Ultimately the idea is if everyone preps it will be that less catastrophic if something like this comes to pass.
As a sidenote: Remember all this is just stuff and knowing you can do it without anything is the ultimate level of prepping. I am quite sure I could barring a few elements and I imagine I would be smart enough not to get myself into that situation. If you have never had a chance you all should really enroll in a survivalist class near you as it will change you perspective. Knowledge is always a good thing..

Anytime any of you guys wants to debate the relative merits of gun ownership I think this thread should be compulsory reading.
I'd imagine the primary cause of the forthcoming apocolypse will be that fact that a load of mentalists from the internet are give free reign to own lethal weapons.
On a more serious note, Nico, I understand owning hunting rifles and even the shotgun, but why do you want the M4? So far as I know that fucker only has one application and it isn't sports and recreation.

Depends.
Skeet shooting is considered recreation as well as going to the shooting range.

More problematic is that it can even be purchased. That said, an M4 is decently accurate out to maybe 3 or 400 meters, so you 'could' go shooting with it at a range for recreation. Though for the same price my .308 can hit at a kilometer, so....
Hunting with an m4 though, is a dildoes waste of time and should be illegal since a .223 doesn't have the oomph to kill anything you should be hunting with a rifle (compared to a shotgun - for birds or whatnot) and anyone shooting at a small deer should be slapped down and left out there for them.
Damn the NRA and their reverse backwards logik of 'banning assault rifles means they're gonna ban rifles next hur hur! we gotta stup them'

got a 9mm on my bedside table, and a collapsible baton in my car. I also used to have a 20 guage pump shotgun, but now keep it in my brothers gun safe.
I need real weapons since my "rapier sharp wits" dont help.
Actually i forgot to mention I have a cool antique walking cane that opens up to be a sword.

I don't have any guns, but I do have a bo; jo; bokken; sai; and nunchuku (with the latter of which I would probably do more harm to myself than to any attacker). Out of them all, I'd probably use the sai to defend myself, they're suitably impressive.
It is perfectly monstrous the way people go about nowadays saying things against one, behind one's back, that are absolutely and entirely true.

I like ranged weapons other than guns though. Spikes, stars, knives, bows etc. I have 4 throwing knives, but haven't a clue how to use them.
