Do you have a weapons stash? What's in it? (what's in your pants doesn't count)

So the answer to Shin's title question is YES and many, many items that can maim and kill people and wild animals that for some reason have a strange unwavering grudge with you.

There weren't any suspicious red marks on the blade when your cousin asked you to "hold onto them" were there?

Pfft, edged weapons would be good in a zombie holocaust right until you get tired and the edge is dulled and bent by hacking through however many skulls. Then you die. Max Brooks may know nothing about military tactics or guns but the whole stabbing weapons thing is good. You want an anti zombie sword, take an estoc and go for the eye sockets. Morning star is also good, if tiring.
You've espoused this theory on the other thread Illy. As I said, stabbing weapons are fine 1 on 1 but can easily get caught up on multiple tarkets.
Even blunt, a proper shinken is formidable - mine is 1.4kg. Plenty of kinetic energy for Blunt force trauma.
The Khukri is perhaps the best of both worlds. Heavy enough to chop and short enough to stab easily.
A morning star is a bit hard to control - Leoman not withstanding - it can easily "bite" you on the backswing (Another reason to avoide double-bitted or back spiked Axes). The Mace is the best compromise.
Shinrei, Only the one I've ordered is from Japan. I've actually got no idea how much it will be - no deposit paid either as it's an "Honour" purchase. The smith loves the fact we actually cut with them and not just store them.
My others are half custom/half production.

Energy preservation and reducing equipment degradation are the key points here. Stabbing weapons reduce the surface area of the weapon that might get jammed in bone, and going in through the eyes reduces that further. Short quick stab-and-swivel thrusts are less tiring (most important part here), less weapon-damaging and more efficient than decaps or crushing the brain with a slash. No edge to get dulled and burred, plus you can lean the redeceased bodies to either side and foul the steps of the other zombies. A short(ish) spear would be also be helpful, with range and handy walking stick alternate usage. Kukris are good for both combat and survival purposes, and the morning star I know some people refer to is more of a mace with the ball from a morning star for a head, and think of the original as kind of a flail. Either way you're right in that they'd work too.
Oh, and that comment predated the other thread, haha.

Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Hmph.. not much in the way of an impressive collection.
I've got an Ethiopian fighting knife (which is very very blunt), a fighting spear, a shield, and a short scimitar I bought in Turkey.
The Ethiopian weapons I inherited from my grandfather and are probably too old to be sturdy.

My best zombie fighting combo aside from my shinken would definately be my shortsword in one hand and the spear in the other. Swingy swing swing. Stabby stab stab.

Is the drinking style double-fisted as well? You'll lose technical points if not.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Unless you're very good at stabbing zombies in the eye, I don't think a spear would be much use against a zombie.

"Luckily" zombies dont pull away from sharp objects, so I assume all you gotta do is put the spear point into the zombies face and they'll just keep shoving in on it until they die. Simple!

In which case, unless th spear has a crossbar, you're screwed as there's no way to pull it out.
I'd go for a naginata (or nagamaki), personally. Multi-purpose. The length of the shaft should make swinging cuts less energy-consuming than doing that with a sword.

Crap in close quarters though. That's why you need to have several weapons strapped onto yourself. Long weapons to start, getting closer and closer as your weapons become trapped or lost. Naginata is a good place to start, falling back to longsword to short sword to knives and then to brass knuckles. A mace would be a nice thing to have.
All of my zombie preparation is based on what I actually own. Don't have a naginata unfortunately. I would love to own one though - I've never seen one in a blade store here.
I held one of the biggest blades I've ever touched a few weeks ago. It was an enormous Edo period blade, made back then as a "replica" of the war blades of the warring states period. It was double the weight of my shinken and both blade and hilt significantly longer. That sucker would split heads in two with little effort.
The best situation is to have several people who are trained working together. In Japan that would mean edged weapons. In the US, firearms.

As much as movies have the whole "you have to shoot them in the head" thing, tbh zombies still have ligaments - slash them at thigh level and they'll be unable to walk anymore. They'll still crawl at you, but they're easy to walk away from or finish off then.

Exactly - I elucidated this on the other thread. a slowed down/limbless Zombie is easier to take out. Spears have the bonus of being easier to learn/apply. The tips can slash as well as thrust.

Off the top of my head, I've only got a crossbow. And some leather armor. And a throwing knife but I really only eat with it.

You eat with a throwing knife? That's both awesome and must be intimidating to people who eat with you

Well, it's sharp and it has its own case and it's actually kind of girly looking. Swords and knives aren't all that uncommon among my friends and I don't bring it to school.
