Do you have a weapons stash? What's in it? (what's in your pants doesn't count)

If bokken count as a weapon then I've got a bunch of broomsticks around the house, too!

broomsticks would be more of a Bo or Jo, depending on length. Also, depending on the type of wood, as soft wood isn't really that great an idea for something that is getting regular heavy contact with other surfaces.

Ah, but the dirty straw on one end is an easy cloud of distraction to confuse your enemies before you destroy them with the other end.

There's a few random crappy swords, hand-axes, picks, pick-axes, shovels, pocket-knives and kukris at my place. And a squirrel-shooter (pellet gun). I also keep a golf putter next to my bed, but that's to close the door from bed, not for any weaponeering.

My biggest problem with those karate-style swords and weapons is that there's so rarely actual sparring that all of the flashy moves essentially mean diddly-squat. Plus most of the McDojos I've seen have truly awful weapons discipline. You're going to let a 12 year old swing nunchucks in the middle of other kids doing spinning jump kicks for forms? Or let some tiny geeks with longswords practice near the entrance? Ugh.

The appeal of owning a weapon: sometimes it's heritage (like my kukri and that of my father), sometimes it's to have something around just in case, sometimes it's for actual work, sometimes it's to collect works of art and sometimes it's just to have them.

I do like Apt's shovel idea.

I'm an American.

We don't have "stashes," we have "collections," which we show to the neighbors to prove how incredibly large our penises are.

We then load our guns into our lifted, oversized trucks (which burn baby-seal oil for fuel), and drive out to the nearest clear-cut forest to shoot at orphans for target practice while eating quadruple cheeseburgers and drinking raw lard.

(I actually do have a custom built 1911 .45 hung over my bedpost in a leather holster; it helps me sleep better at night).

No swords or anything like that, sadly.

But I have literally hundreds of automatic weapons at work. Plus some other related fun stuff. :)

Regards knives and such? You don't want to know.

*points at user title*

Firearms, though, I've only got a .22 slug gun. Gun laws here are prohibitive to the point of making it not worth the effort. They're not extreme or ridiculous or anything, but I just can't be bothered going through the motions to only be able to choose from a very limited selection of weapons that fall within the legal categories. That, and the crime rate over here is low enough that I don't feel the need for a gun for defence, and I'm good enough at throwing a knife that it covers the ranged threat issue, at least within my own home.
(Also, shortage of cash makes guns a rather expensive luxury for me, too.)

Hmm, I didn't bother to include my training weapons. I have butterfly knives from when I did kung fu, but they are just the clunky unsharpened kind so I wouldn't call them weapons. Also, nunchaku that I've never used and my bokken and training iaito (looks like a real katana and could stab someone, but the edge is not sharpened).

As for my antique sword, it's perfect for training in my particular school. It is in excellent condition, but not the type of blade that is heirloom quality. And it is ridiculously sharp. I was sheathing it once and felt it touch my finger. I looked at my finger and didnt see anything amiss. About a minute later someone said, "hey, you're bleeding". Sure enough, I was starting to drip a pretty good amount on the dojo floor. THATS why I'm afraid to use it. Granted, if I just unsheathed it carefully, I could probably fight with it fairly effectively. But the training is iaijutsu, so basically quick draw, short kata, and resheathing.

Here's a picture of the antiques from my grandfather.

Im a medieval reenactor and i do archery so ive got a bit: 2 short swords, a dagger, a claymore, a crossbow, a modern recurve bow, a longbow, 2 african daggers, a ceremonial axe, a victoria calvalry sabre, my shield (a very effective weapon if you know how to use it), quarterstaff, moari club, a viking sax, an african tribal bow.....and of course all my armour from reenactment. Ive probably forgoten something out of my armoury in the list but thats the quick rundown :)

Just as the Man's Language-which Mongora called gibberish-was beyond her ability to understand. The reason for that, Iskaral Pust knew, was that the Man's Language was gibberish, designed specifically to confound women." - BH

I've got two katanas, a tanto, five hunting knives, a three foot two-handed meat cleaver, a battle axe, an agincourt replica sword, a two handed greatsword, nunchucks, an american cavalry sabre, a morning star, two knuckle dusters and night stick. I used to have a small Way;ander style cross bow but lost it somewhere along the way.

Fast zombies or slow zombies?

Because if it's the former, you've got the wrong weapons - you don't want to do close-up fighting with fast zombies.

Zombie apocalypse was definitely the first thing I thought of upon seeing this topic.

As for myself I've a paltry collection when compared to some of you, mostly just a bunch of varying size knives.

All you need for the ZA is:

1) Big Ass Melee Weapon (BAMW)

2) Big Ass Gun (BAG)

Depending on the difficulty of killing / speed of the aforementioned zombies.

Holy crap you guys are scary / awesome. Posted Image I thought the only people who had stashes like this were nutjob survivalists and anti-government militia types (all apologies if you happen to be one of those types).
I myself don't own any weapons, unless you count some expensive Henckels kitchen knives and a crazy-ass cat. My dad, though, has all kinds of rifles since he hunts various large animals. One of my earliest memories is actually of helping him make his own bullets, how bizarro is that?

Just a machete that I found in an old pickup that I bought, and a Kukri that is very sharp and stays beside my bed in case of robbers/zombies.

2 things I'm finding a bit strange -

1) The number of people who have simply found weapons.

2) The number of people with a katana. What kind are we talking here? Display type? Practice type? Sharpened steel replica type? Real made in Japan scare you to death sharp type?

Mine are actually my cousin's, as he asked me to hold onto them for a bit two years ago and still hasn't gotten them back - despite him being 10 minutes away.

And someone else here has a kukri? Those things are the most badass knives ever made - excellent machetes too.
