Heh, I just realised I have a very intermitten? intermitted? sketchy recollection of most of the prologues in this series.

GOTM: Whiskeyjack, Ganoes the kid, maybe Fiddler?
DG: Felisin has a miserable walk. Also flies.
MOI: Jaghut torturing and FUCK YEAH KALLOR
HOC: Er, Trull? Maybe?
MT: BALLS TO THE WALL AWESOME AFTERMATH and a talented professional is commissioned.
TBH: I have no idea. Seriously, nothing comes to mind. Complete blank.
RG: It has ships in. That's it.
TTH: Campside fire? Am I close?
DOD: The Snake, maybe the walking argument, there's more but it's gone.
ROTCG: Azath shenanigans.

Off to find my TBH copy, I'm perturbed at my memory again.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Hellian. It's like the only one I remember. And I was fucking lost while reading it, cause I had no idea who the fuck this drunk bitch was. But she turned out alright.

I had the same sort of problem, but I persevered. Still, having pants lends certain...advantages.

It has been proven beyond all reasonable doubt that the most powerful force on Wu is a bunch of messed-up Malazans with Moranth munitions.

Seriously. I read the back blurb and I do not know what the fuck is going on. It's been a long since I've read any Erikson. I think I'm going to have go back a few books to catch up before jumping into "Dust."

I've read from "Gardens" to "Midnight Tides" enough that I think I can start on "Bonehunters" and go from there.

How embarrassing.

I am having essentially the same problem. I read TtH when it came out, but I've never done a Malazan reread. Even with the quick releases, I'm lost. Too much time reading WoT over and over again I guess. And school. I was excited to get DoD but it has been sitting on my shelf for a while now. I didn't even try to read it over Christmas break, because the prologue was depressing. I'm always lost in prologues, though, so I imagine if I just stuck it out I'd be okay.

Interestingly, this is the exact problem I've had with Gathering Storm...

I haven't read the last two WoT books. I'm waiting for the whole damn series to be ended and then it's time for an epic read through of the whole thing.

DG: Felisin has a miserable walk. Also flies.
MOI: Jaghut torturing and FUCK YEAH KALLOR
HOC: Er, Trull? Maybe? Yup, him getting shorned
MT: BALLS TO THE WALL AWESOME AFTERMATH and a talented professional is commissioned. and a Jaghut makes some ice. LOTS AND LOTS OF ICE
TBH: I have no idea. Seriously, nothing comes to mind. Complete blank. Spiders, orgies and a lizard-cat feeding-frenzy. Taralack veed spits into his hair, too.
RG: It has ships in. That's it. The Preda sees a bunch of ships, Redmask sees a bunch of eaten-hearts, Mael and Killy do some awesometastic dragon-raping, then Rake talks about his average Tuesday
TTH: Campside fire? Am I close? Yup
DOD: The Snake, maybe the walking argument, there's more but it's gone. The Snake, Kalyth walks around a giant SCIENCE and the matron sends her out a Shi'gal (which is awesome but I won't spoil). A schizophrenic argues with himself and confuses the birds. A man with no thumbs pronounces himself JUSTICE while he watches a lizard look at a dragon that has been Jesus'd.
ROTCG: Azath shenanigans.

Off to find my TBH copy, I'm perturbed at my memory again.

That sounds wise. I don't have the patience, but I don't really need refreshers at this point. I discuss WoT too regularly to forget any of it, and I'm constantly amazed at how that discussion ties into nearly every corner of the series. A surprising (or perhaps not) chunk of the important theory information is in the slow books.

Finally ready to read "Dust of Dreams." Only too me a month and a half to get ready.

Finished "Crimson Guard" tonight for the second time. Fucking loved it. No bullshit philosophizing or dreary Kruppe monologues. No sir. Just action. Lots of action and funny. That's what I like. But a hero named Kyle? Really? Kyle? Weak.

I suspect from people's comments that "Dreams" is going to be a brutal slog for me.

You get scenes in Letheras at the beginning. That should be all you need to get your motor running.

Spoiler

Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

It's pronounced 'keh-hill-lay' and is a totally accurate representation of the nomenclature of the relevant Quon Tallii subcontinetal tribes. Just accept it.

Ignore people and make up your own submind. But it's awesome.

I don't think you do. At least not about how to pronounce Kyle. You may have other knowledge that I do not have but you should keep it to yourself. My brain is kind of full today.

Which parts?

Also I acknowledge that this might be veering towards strange new territory for you but if it involves any specifics you might need to move the thread to *gasp* the book forums.

Pretty much all of it. So long and so dull. Parts of wicked humor and action vastly outnumbered by the dull.
