Don't think I will waste my money on this one. Probably wait til my library gets it in, and save my money for the new Martin book.

KOD is very good. I'd rate it in the top few books in the series.

Whilst I agree this was certainly something of a return to form, I wouldn't rate KOD as highly as some here have. RJ used to know how to build a book up to a great climactic end-scene - the first 7 books, and bk 9 ended really well, I thought - but I felt the end of KOD to be a bit of a let-down. There was something of a crescendo, but it didn't match up, for me.

I hoped there'd be more of Rand, too. If RJ really intends the next book to be the last, he has left himself an enormous number of plot lines to be resolved. I wonder just how huge bk 12 will end up being, and how long it will take... :D

KOD was really good insofar as stuff actually happened. Plotlines, quite a number of them, actually get resolved. There are plenty of references to Tarmon Gai'don being just around the corner, with both sides seeming to prepare themselves for it to some degree.

That's all I can say without spoilers. A very enjoyable read, no doubt, but not as good as many others in the series. Looking forward to the next one!

Yep, I agree with all the above.... it's the best book since Lord of Chaos, but still fell a way short in terms of a penultimate book to this series.
For those that haven't bought it....it may be worth waiting until the paperback comes out.

I agree, I felt the second part of the book was great, but the ending was weak and the first half dragged a lot.

Certainly way better than the dreadful CoT, that's for sure, though that doesn't say a lot.

Hume, if you want to borrow the trade paperback from me, let me know. It's worth reading, there's no doubt about that.

Is rand cool in it. Nothing annoyed me more than his one chapter in cot. One friggin chapter and he did not really do anything. Also does cadsuane die?

he's got plot lines spiraling all over the place even if he did manage to resolve a few can the storyline be saved?

his problem was when he let the minor characters leave the orbit of the main charcaters. mat perrin egwene elayne min aviendha all fine so long as their stories remained intertwined with rands the main character.

But now we have egwene an amrylin. perrin doing soemthing amazing one day. mat future emporer of the greatest power in rand land. and im left going who cares

There's not a lot of Rand in it to be honest, although some of the scenes were pretty good. Cadsuane is still wanting to spank bottoms all over the place..... wtf that's all about? ... I'd love for her to get bonded by an Asha'man :D
Does anyone else get the idea that certain areas/plot lines were sortta... rushed? As if he couldn't be a$$ed to write them properly and just did it for the sake of a tidyup?

I still don't see how it can finsh in one more book. That's probably why it seems rushed:it is!
Still, Knife of Dreams IS an improvement on the last few. Even if the series has gone very predictable. I mean it's been obvious for a long time that Mat would end up saving Moirane, and how he'd find her, and that Noald is Jain, but RJ seemed to present them as big wows.

@Het[cough] I'd like Mat to meet up with Cadsuane. Then she might get her ass spanked. We'd all like that.

Dammit I dont remember anymore exactly who Jain was. Jain something, travelled far and disappeared long time ago.. ?

Anyways, I'm still undecided about the book.. I read some discussion on randylandy forums or whatever, and while some plotlines do get resolved, Rand still gets very little screentime.. and Rand was who I was hoping to see after his nonexistence in CoT.
Last book, if the next one really is the last, I guess will have to be mostly about Rand and his escapades.. but I dunno.

@ Crool......The biggest let-down for me was the "event that was going to be seen to have dire consequences" or something that RJ mentioned in an interview. That we would all be shocked......I was waiting for some really big wow moment...and when I found out what it was, I was like.... huh?

@ Vaiski - Jain Farstrider... the guy in the stories.

Um, what was the dire event again? I really can't think of anything in the book that qualifies.

See! that's exactly what I meant... I got to the end of the book looking for this big event... and realised I'd already read it... at least I'm pretty sure thats the one anyway. :Erm: anyway I'd better put it in a pm.. don't want to put spoilers in here.

@daze...absolutely there would have been a MBotF without WoT...the malazan world was mostly fully realised before the first WoT book...as far as i know SE never read WoT...I however, have read all ten books of WoT, and though i have at times (often, in fact) been seriously disappointed with the story, i will finish the series
