Bought Doom. It is now pre-loaded on Steam. Just sitting there. Waiting. For me to rip and tear.

I too never pre-order anything and am fundamentally opposed to the whole concept. I genuinely think it's completely stupid and as informed consumers we should not be falling for such tactics. That's why I got the girlfriend to pre-order the £70 special edition of No Man's Sky with artbook as an anniversary present. Loophole!

Especially with Doom, as I've been told they've not given review copies to anyone. Hardly a sign that the game will be good.

Only games I've pre-ordered were the Witcher 2+3. And that was based off teh track record of the original + the fact I pre-ordered off GOG to support DRM-free AAA gaming development.

beyond that, pre-ordering un-reviewed games is a foolish affair, imho.

I don't really care. Normally I wait for the reviews but I have seen enough preview gameplay to know I like what I see. Its flaws are already glaringly apparent, the story will probably be awful, there wont be enough monsters on screen, I don't care about the multiplayer, etc. but it's Doom. I must own it.

You are a lawyer, lack of principles is both unsurprising and desired in your make up

I figured I'd wait until the weekend at least on Doom. The first 48-72 hours of gameplay will be enough to really shake most of the good reviews and massive beefs about the game out and then I might buy it. I'm seeing flashbacks to Fallout 4 every time I think about it.

Upgraded my GOG edition of Darksiders II to the Deathinitive Edition for 2.50.

Also spent some of my tax refund to buy a new external to shunt my Steam install onto (5TB Seagate) and finally sprang for an SSD to host my Win 7 on.

I was gonna shop around for a new GPU, but NVIDIA announced its 1080 release in the summer-fall, so i'll wait till the winter hols, since 900 series will probably drop in price now.

Despite my better judgement I decided to buy Homefront 2 since I thought footage I'd seen didn't look that bad.

I boot it up. Max FOV is 65. Okay. Maybe I can fiddle with ini files later. 10 minute cutscenes before you can play, in which you have slight camera control and for some reason your character bobs or jitters so much that its slightly nauseating. Okay, I need to fix that in the options I guess. Get player control and the joypad controls are overly sensitive and act like the mouse speed is turned to 200%. Never tried that before. Adjust until it feels sort of okay. Start moving around the apartment and there's input lag so severe that my character takes 0,5 seconds to start moving and stop moving.

What. The. Fuck. Right, this game os definitely going to be a work-in-progress.

Giantbomb butchered that game in their podcast. It sounded awful, the whole thing.

Forgot to mention: 2 days ago I picked up a pre-order of Hard Reset Deluxe Edition from GOG.

I know, preorders bad, etc, but for people who owned Shadow Warrior (and I did) it was only $2.50

GOG running its summer sale.

finally picked up the expansion for Pillars of Eternity, as well as a bunch of stuff on my wishlist.

got 3 free games out of it, including the Dreamfall Chapters Season's pass, which I was kinda interested in, cuz The longest Journey is on my to play list.

Took advantage of some PS4 sales.

Got Disgaea 5, FFX/X-2 Remastered - the lot cost of £40 - and pre-ordered the new South Park game so I could play the Stick of Truth.

Goodbye life.
