Im putting this topic on the dod section because someone mentioned it to me after i read it. With everything that tavore just happens to know do you think she knew it was her sister she killed or recently learned of it. Personally from her actions i think she knew it was her sister and it had to be her that killed her. her actions seem to suggest that ie how determined she was to face the shaik. like to hear some thoughts

I don't think she knows. The only people who know are Lostara, dead Pearl, Grubb, and uhh... some gods, maybe? The only reason I think she doesn't know, mind you, is because I imagine it would have to get some sort of screen time, or a twinge on her face before she returns to robo-land.

I feel like there was just a disscussion not so long ago about this...

Anyway I don't think she knows. Tavore wanted to save her sister, she still loved her. So if she knew I feel like there would definitely have to be some direct mentioning of it in the books. Its way too big to only hint at. Speaking of hints, you said "from her actions" that you think she does know. What actions would those be? I can't remember anything she says or does that hints towards Felesin post-HoC.

I don't think she knew it was Felisin, however at some point I think she's going to find out. The effects of that and when she finally meets up with Ganoes again should be very interesting.

She knows that Felisin is dead, from Lostara and Pearl, but they didn't tell her that Felisin was Sha'ik.

She has not been told of Felisin being Shaik in any of the books so far, however do not necessarily assume that means she does not know. Tavore Paran is a real mystery, full of arcane knowledge (and she is no mage, although I think otateral can convey certain "sensitivities") from where we know not. I am hoping that the mystery of Tavore will be answered along with others in the final book. Considering how much she features in House of Chains, Bonehunters, Reapers Gale and Dust of Dreams we really know very little about her other than she is Ganoes' sister and (formerly) Adjunct to the Empress.

I'm not sure why you think that - Paran doesn't know either. Hurlochel didn't mention to him that Sha'ik Reborn was Mezla and neither did Mathok - in printed knowledge anyway :crybaby:

I don't think Tavore knows, and I'm not expecting her to ever find out (in case she still lives… well, I assume she does…) for the simple reason that I can't see how her knowing Felisin was Sha'ik would further contribute to the story from this point… apart from maybe a way to letting us see the usual mental shell she hides in finally being broken.

After all, there is only one book left and inevitably not every mystery can be solved in it.

I rather see Tavore killing her sister and not knowing it just as another example for how life can be cruel and unfair… one of many the books are strewn with…
Which is what gives the MBotF a far more realistic quality than most fantasy-series possess, where everything always is closed up nicely in the end.

Tavore dosen't know.

However, I believe Heboric does, right?

I was a little confused by what I thought was Heboric (digging with green hands in red soil for a weapon) in the book.

I'm not totally sure about this as I haven't actually bought DoD yet (I borrowed it from the library and read it twice) so can't check, I'm waiting for the paperback as the rest of my collection is in paperback, but if you are referring to Kalyth (spelling?) the Destriant of the K'Chain Che'Malle when she goes spirit walking then that was definitely Heboric she met if I am recollecting the correct scene. Whilst we know Heboric is dead he is obviously not "gone" as was demonstrated in Bonehunters when he saved what appeared to be a fair part of the world from under the waters by Otateral Island (not unusual for Erikson's characters to "reiterate"). He has a connection with the jade giants and having discovered he is Shield Anvil rather than Destriant (to Treach?) seems to have more he needs/wants to do with regards to the souls trapped therein. This is one of the matters that is still unclear at the end of DoD and I am hoping for a little clarification in the final book on this along with many other things. Unfortunately there are so many characters/situations left to be resolved I think it unlikely there will be room in the final book to cover them all (not unless it was about 2 feet wide, lol) but there may be further clarification in either Esslemont's or Erikson's companion books to the main series (pretty please!).

I think it's safe to say that Heboric and the Jade Giants are going to be included in The Crippled God. Dust of Dreams was Part One, featuring Heboric, Herald of Justice (IMO), in the prologue. The Crippled God is Part Two.

the red text, it burns us!

Anyway, yes, that is the scene I was speaking about, and yes I brought it up because I assume the truth will come to the remaining Parans from Heboric.

Just a quick question, what are all these groups (Malazan Regular etc) and how do I get to be in a different one?

I've given up on the text colour discussion (ToH) since I discovered we are not all using the same background colour so what looks fine on one may not look fine on another.

If I don't get a chance to post again before Christmas - Merry Christmas to all forum members, not to mention a Happy New Year with the prospect of tCG on the horizon, yay!

Off-topic:

I just spent 20 minuts looking for the thread.

Basically, it started out as a way to fight spambots by allowing established members to quickly change to a different group than "Recruit." Like everything else, people used it as an excuse to get idiotic groups (like Kings of Drink) established.

Couldn't find the thread where we went through it, but basically, some people want them abolished and some are apathetic. I checked the Phoenix Inn, Announcements, and Administration forums, briefly.

Thanks, I did wonder - I had noticed some of the group names were, shall we say, a little odd. One of the forums I belong to (nothing to do with fantasy novels) gives you an initial status and you get higher status after making certain numbers of posts which seems like a good idea for rewarding regular posters. Although, given it is a money saving discussion site it also helps you to weight members' postings if they seem a little dubious which would not really apply on here as all opinions are valid (admittedly some more than others, lol!) when it comes to fiction.

I don't know if Tavore or Ganoes are going to find out or not but I will be really annoyed if there's not some resolution/continuation/ending of this whole will-they won't-they find out thing cause that's just driving me crazy. If nothing is ever going to come of it then I just wish it would stop cropping up again and again.

Tavore didn't know.

Paran doesn't know, and questioned what kind of sister Tavore was to send her to the mines, where she would die.

It would be awesome to have Heboric deliver the word, and then see what kind of sparks fly. But it'll prolly be someone else delivering the word, Like Lostara who knows too. I don't believe she's dead.

It's because that in all likelihood Tavore didn't and still doesn't know that Felisin's death is my favourite tragic one. Sure we hate her with a passion through the majority of her "screen time" but at the end, when she's freed of the Whirlwind Goddess' influence all she wants is to be with her sister and what happens next? Her sister stabs her - he same sister that did everything she could to save Felisin and saught to find her - and so dies the youngest of the Parans. With her dying thought she asks Tavore why and I just wanted to scream the same question. It really left me shocked.
The world needs hypocrites...unfortunate but true.
