Seriously. I don't train for Self defense though (I don't carry my sword everywhere).

As for defending against a knife, it's very difficult. I train with blades and if someone wants my wallet, they can have it.

And no, I'm not part of the Sugino Ha branch.

Do you own/use shinken in your training? My sensei helped me purchase my sword and encouraged me to use it (saying the concentration necessary will improve your technique), but I'm piss in my pants scared to use it in training. I've had 2 or 3 incidents with my iaito where I thought "If this was a shinken, I now have only 2 fingers on my left hand")

Karate why it gave birth to all martial arts (including jujitsu) and when my club goes to tournys we win pwn the other styles ( Im in goju - black belt )

+ anything with weapons is not martial arts
blankets are always in style
