Now i dont watch a lot of horror films, mainly because their pretty cheesy and arent really scary. But i watched this movie this weekend and it was the first horror movie i've watched in a long time that wasnt cheesy, actually kept me entertained and is actually pretty damn scary. A girl i went with actually got up and left during one part cause she couldnt handle it.

Its not fancy, its two people and a camera, but its not annoying and you get used to it after a few minutes. There is no special effects, the entire movie takes place in their house, pretty much in the bedroom. It just documents night after night as things get progressively worse.

My advice, is to go see this movie, now, in the theater. If they would have started it up again right after it was over, i woule have sat through the 1 1/2 hours again, easily.

Anyone else seen it? Thoughts?

Looks different and judging by the audience response, scary.

I love films like this so will be checking out when (if) it gets released on this side of the pond.
Now all the friends that you knew in school they used to be so cool, now they just bore you.
Just look at em' now, already pullin' the plow. So quick to take to grain, like some old mule.

There isn't much you can say about this film without giving it away but...

If you like Blair Witch Project you will enjoy this.

Also, this is already the most profitable film this year, possibly this decade.

It took $15 000 to make, and has already grossed over 30 million, which should speak volumes for how well it was made. Considering as well, almost all the advertisement has been word of mouth.

Highly, highly recommended.

One of the top 5 (maybe 3) films this year for me.

I just saw this yesterday. It's definitely one of those movies where you come home, sit around, and despite knowing that it was just a movie, can't help but be a little freaked out.

Quick question for anyone: Watch the teddy bear in one of the back bedrooms in their house. Does it change positions or rooms occasionally? My girlfriend is convinced there was something fishy about it, but I can't remember anything about it.

being a huge fan of the handheld camera type movies (in moderate doses) including Blair Witch...one of my all time faves...

I'm sure I would love it.

But the shithole theatre in my shithole town never has the limited release movies. Instead we get Saw 6, Some dumass CGI astro boy movie, the latest 3D pixar shitpile and 7 romantic comedies.

Yay.

I hate the theatre in my town. I really and truly do.

looks like I'll be turning to the tubes for an "early release" of this movie.

Awesome. We actually thought up that logically, having the teddy bear be a

would have been very clever. There is shaky proof, as well. If you pay attention to all of the furnishings in their house, the bear is the only 'kiddie' item there. The spare bedrooms are sparse barring the nice bedspreads and pictures on the wall while the rest of their house has the trendy furniture, technology, and fireplace that many 'mature' households have, but the teddy bear stuck out when thought of in that context.

I wish I had more disposable income so I could go see the movie again, cause it's killing me being curious about that bear. I can imagine the director chuckling to himself about how no one will ever suspect the bear!

I didn't even think of any of that.

Sounds like a good theory, but I have no idea, I really want to go see it again to look for that now.

To me though, it doesn't really fit the rest of the movie having the teddy bear to be what you said it was. Still very interesting though.

well now, that was one hell of a film. the creep doesn't live up to japanese flicks, however it's very good regardless. for it's budget, it's a real success.

yeah well Micah's unbearably annoying throughout the whole movie. come to think of it, they both are really, really annoying, and I can barely spark up any compassion for them...

Am I the only one who was bored in it? I saw it on DVD with a couple of friends, with the lights off at 1 in the morning in our friend's rural home....most of my friends were scared shitless...they wouldn't even go outside. But I wasn't really entertained...certainly didn't live up to the hype for me and I even believe in those things (demons and whatnot)....especially when it is treated as a true story...is it supposed to be real or do they say it was scripted?

I watched this a few days ago, and I have to say it's extremely well done.

I have seen scarier films and I've lost sleep after a film before (watched Nightmare on Elm Street 3 when I was about 8 years old and that scared the living shit out of me, but fuck, only for one night... same for Blair Witch, which I also thought was well done), but this film is staying with me. It's been about 5 days and I'm only just starting to get a grip. I'm like a pathetic girl with this film.

So why is it bothering me?

The fact that this film is about a normal couple sleeping in a normal house and doing normal shit is the very thing that works in this film's favour. The demon is invisible, and it makes noises, walks into the room (and doesn't leave), and breathes in the girl's face, puts photos in the loft above their bed etc etc.

This is fucking with my head. I don't fear Freddy Krueger because I feel safe when I'm awake, and when I sleep I don't dream of him. I don't fear the Blair Witch Project because I don't go rambling around forests looking for witches. But what can you do about a demon that stands over you while you sleep?

The bit that was most scary was when it dragged her out the bed. Ouch. I can't even work out how they did that. It has a low budget, so it's not CGI. Looked too natural for fishing wire. Brilliantly done.

You can't get away, because it could be there all the time. Standing over you. While you sleep. For hours.

Man, where is the Paranormal Activity Anonymous? My name is yellow, and I'm a wuss. WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT NOISE??

I'm pretty good with scary movies and horror flicks. Having various friends in the film industry helps, cause I always just sit there and wonder how they did it on screen make-up of effects-wise, or I am able to tell myself it's all fake. So for the most part, I can get freaked out, but not much really messes me up.

Paranormal Activity seriously messed me up.

When I saw Blair Witch back in the day, it scared me because we saw it about 3 or 4 weeks before its actual release, the studio wanted actual audiences to build the hype and spread the word so by the time it came out people would go "what's up with this Blair Witch movie? Is it real?...ect..., and it worked because it scared the shit out of us, and we all thought it was real. I slept with my light on for 3 days, and I was in my early 20's at the time.

That said, I honestly thought I would be prepared for handling Paranormal Activity. I figured I could dismiss the things I saw as just movie-making (albeit homemade style)...and I was wrong.

The amateur camera footage and the complete lack of music or background sound made this so much creepier. I'll also agree to being surprised by some of the "effects" when you consider the budget (but then again I know jack about filming so perhaps it was easy to do those things). I watched this with the ending currently in theatres...
