I just checked Hotwire and for a 4 star hotel downtown for the night of the 7th it is anywhere from 89 - 100. So pretty standard and you might even get lucky and end up at either the Peninsula or Four Seasons. What day are you thinking of getting here on? Amp I am not going to bother looking for a room for you as you are going to be staying with the GF. Also Amp if you want to take the GF to a really nice place for Brunch then go to M.Henery in Andersonville. There will be a wait but it is well worth it. We usually go there a couple of times a month. It would impress your GF if you just pulled it out of the air. A good place for Belgium food and beer is called the Hopleaf also in Andersonville. If you ever want any restaurant recommendations let me know. I have lived on the northside of Chicago for a while.

Oh, well that is much less impressive, but I've been on a 14-hour train journey once myself and it was horrible. Hopefully you'll have a seat that is slightly more comfortable than a park bench.

In Yew Ess Ayy, trains are generally comfortable - much more comfortable than planes or buses. Amtrak has been doing a decent job carrying more and more people with less money every year.

If you book a hotel through Hotwire.com then you can get a 4 star for cheap. Personally I would rather get a cheap 4 star then go really cheap in a crappy neighborhood.

Yeah you said that she lived in Edgewater. I happen to live in North Center which isn't to far away. As such I have eaten at most of the finner establishments (see bars and what not) in the area. If you like good Belgium Beer I would definitely recommend Hopleaf.
