Until the fricking 19th. No gaming whatsoever. CURSE YOU EXAMS!!!!!!!!

(And yes, this is supposed to be much more BG than ME - and IGN AU gave it a 8.4 (they're normally a bit low) because they can't deal with graphics that aren't Mass Effect. Wimps.)

I think the graphics are better than ME. I ran it on full specs the whole game and it was grainy and a little polygonal around some of the edges. This is much cleaner.

Oh, it's good. The plot is undoubtedly inspired by Martin. The graphics are not super, but that's my only bitch and if that's you're main criteria for judging games you've got problems anyways. Still getting used to the menus and whatnot, and it's a little jarring switching directly from Oblivion to this. Seems like it will be a lot of fun.

Does it have the Oblivion problem where it takes 14 hours just to create a character that isn't so ugly that it would make babies cry?

Nope. The sliders are pretty friendly. Think Mass Effect rather than Oblivion. It is however hard to create the epitome of hawtness. You won't mind, seeing how often your character is hidden beneath bloody stains and splatters.

You can try for yourself with the free character creator (available as demo on steam).

Mine is the epitome of hawtness. I'd post a screenshot, but for some reason the damn game doesn't realize that I AM logged in to my online profile, and as such will not let me load my dlc. And consequently, my game.

Does the golem only come from the preorder? I thought that I saw all copies had him included, but now I'm not so sure. And I'm not a fan of paying $15 for him later.

He's dlc. Whether that is dlc that is made available to all preorders or just to a more special group, I don't know - CE here, so I get everything :p.

I got him on the back of the slip with the Blood Dragon Armour but that may only be packed in with the first shipment of discs. However, I can't say for sure.

AWESOME GAME, btw, but I CAN'T FUCKING PLAY IT THIS MORNING!!!!!! RRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE ;)-_-:D:D:p:wallbash::p

Obdi, you gotta complete certain quests/dialogues/achievements to unlock specializations. So far the only one I've unlocked is shapechanger by talking to Morrigan about it. Of course, I'm human noble warrior, so lots of good THAT one does me. My only caster is the one who fucking taught me the spec. Goddammit.

I figure I'm just too good to specialize. The ultimate WIZARD.

blood mage spec comes from following the Arl questline

Spirit Healer is from a mage who joins the party

and shapeshifter can also be learned from an elf.

no idea about Arcane warrior though, might not have gone to the right place yet.

I imagine the other class-specs unlock the same way, but I'm playing a mage. I imagine Alastair will eventually man up and teach templar to a fighter - other than that, no idea

@Talf: Did you forget to turn 'film grain' off for mass effect? Really makes a difference how that game looks

I actually did the Arcane Warrior by talking to some guy trapped in a crystal ball or somesuch, and I did a conversation about being a duelst, but I'm playing as a warrior and neither spec. are a warrior class, so I guess thats why it won't let me do anything, but I just wonder if I screwed myself and won't be able to do any more. I thought I unlocked Campion, but when I went to level up it gave the spec to allistar.

Yea the Phylantry-like item in the Ruins in the Forest?

I have no interest in being an Arcane Warrior and I was tired and needed to save, so I quit that talk last night. I will have ot go learn it to figure it out.

Bloodmage is from your friend from the tower. I am looking for the Ashes for the Arl right now, so I could talk to him about it. The spirit healer one is probably learnt from the older magess you pick up after the tower. What is the last one? Shapeshifter? I guess I would choose spirit healer over any of those, but maybe Arcane Warrior would help me. Hrm I will have to go back and do that one.

Is this the final werewolf fight? I'm attempting to avoid it by agreeing to bring the guy down, but we will see how it goes.

I get the game in an hour. And then have to stare at it longingly without playing it for two weeks.

@Obdi, don't think the Brood Mother is related to werewolves, iirc. But hey, I could be wrong in that.

its possible, but I mean the actual textures. like jagged walls and such.

Started an Elf rogue in the car on the way home from Ottawa today. Got her into the wilds before discovering the hard way that my power cord had fallen out ;) plugged it back in and discovered the problem with my DLC had been rectified, and got back to my human.

No, its part of the "getting the drarves to fight for you" quest.

So I have the Mage Tower done, the Elveseseses Done, and am up on the mountain by haven chasing the Ashes. I just rang a gong on a mountaintop and killed what came out, then I went in and talked to some guy about a gauntlet. Shale is hilarious 'I want to squish his head'. If you played KOTOR 1 or 2, he is like the assassin droid, and quite entertaining. I took shapeshifting since I still haven't unlocked spirit healer although I have spoked to Wynne numerous times, and she did her little colapse and I learned what happened to her in the mage tower... /sigh.

I hope I'm not like halfway done already. I assume after I get the support there is a huge twist and things change.

After all the references to the Grey Wardens riding griffons, and then them talking about how they all died out, I am also assuming I will find a couple of the last remaining ones. At least two, one for me and one for the other surviving warden.

Has anyone managed to figure out all of the spell combos? I've only found 4 so far, (nightmare, grease&fire, the shattery-one and hex+drain) which I guess is alright for being (apparently) 45% through the game, but I feel like I'm missing out... makes me sad it does.

Question: Are the mage's collective quests good or evil? I'm trying to run a good character this time around, so don't want to do them if they are not good. Here's where my dilemma comes in, they are not part of the cirlce of mages and so seem to be inherently bad, but sometimes it seems like they are just misunderstood and are only trying to excapse oppression from the chantry which makes them seem good and tragically misunderstood, but then sometimes it sounds like they are actually blood mages and are inherently evil. Which is it? Are those side quests compatible with a good character?

Well, there is no "good" or "bad" really in this game. I find its simply which party members you want to like you. Morrigan will react better if you're a "bad" guy, while Leliana will react better to "good" people. For my elf I use mostly killing attacks, gruff confrontational responses and kill as much as is fucking possible. I don't expect to have Alistair after the first battle. On my human I use mostly good responses which are pissing off Shale and Morrigan, but are gonna get some hot lesbian action going on with Leliana. So as far as the mages are concerned, I think its ultimately "good" to do what Wynne will like. And that's probably gonna lead to you killing the blood mages.

So is the entire mage's collective bloodm ages, or are some just misunderstood? I guess we should move all dragon age discussion to the dragon age thread.

some mage's collective quests send you after blood mages... so I think they're just mages, who hate templars and dont want to be locked up in a tower, that's all. Its likely that some are Blood Mages, but less interested in the whole 'dominate and destroy' aspect of it. I'll second that there's no good and no bad, different stuff happens if you are nice, and different stuff happens if you're a bastard, kinda like The Witcher.

on a completely unrelated note: How is it that game has so little press on this site? A travesty.

heh nice Rodeo.
I've ordered it and it is supposed to deliver sometime in the next 2 weeks.

I heard from a friend of mine that he thought the game sucked because of too much talking and that kind of thing. Anyone else get that impression? From the opinions I've seen here everything is positive about the game. I figured that since my friend isn't really into reading that that much text was a put-off for him while it would be something I'd enjoy.
