It was the cheapest nicest hotel I could find. Got my own room and toilet. That's key. Don't want to be contaminated by filthy Europeans!

The best unmissable tourist sights in London (in my opinion) are the Tower of London and the British Museum. You're going to have a great time.

Whoa, I just looked up the British Museum and learned it has free admission?! That's bizarre! They charge you a kidney for museums over here!

All the main museums are free. Some have special exhibitions that you have to pay for. The current one at the British museum is on Montezuma Aztec stuff, book online if you want to go but the museum is big enough to not need it unless you are really into Aztecs. Last time I went, the Tower was about £20 but it is worth it if you like English history. The crown jewels are in there and you can see where Anne Boleyn and Lady Jane Grey got the chop and where the Prince's in the Tower were supposedly walled in and where Mary Queen of Scots was held.

I'm trying to think of other tourist stuff to do in London. It is quite hard to think of stuff in your own country! To really tourist it up, you should go to Covent Garden on a Saturday and watch the street performers. A walk around Westminster is always good for feeling like you stepped into the tv: Trafalgar Square, the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, up the Mall to Buckingham Palace (the Queen is at home if the flag is up on the roof), stare at the horribly rich people in Kensington and Knightsbridge and then have a mooch in Hyde Park.

Looking at those dates I might pop over to London for a day, as I can't make the Manky Christmas meet. Unless you fancy heading over to Wales (read: psycho/erotic sheep...) for a bit you can definitely crash at mine for a couple of days. Let me know dude. :p

You should deffo check out the tower, if you can handle the large numbers of US tourist shuffling round being dumb and the masses of uncivilised school kids, I fucking loved it. Actually the dumb arsed toursists make it worth the while.

The Imperial War museum rocks too. Blitz exhibition is very good, but you have to take it with a pinch of salt (it's a bit 'lets all sit in the shelter drinking tea and singing roll out the barrell, Myth of the Blitz stuff.

@Rodeo - your plan, it proceeds. That's awesome. Two notes from my own visits to London: the half-price tickets booth is an awesome way to catch some great shows cheap, and the changing of the guard at Buckingham palace is the BEST (place to meet backpacker girls who need you to take their picture thus presenting an opportunity for cross cultural exchanges).

I think you misread the reservation site, your room IS the toilet... ah well, it's temporary...

- Abyss, has experienced the pleasure of cheap London hotels and is still waiting for the scars to fade...

Cambridge is worth a look too - you are welcome to stay here for a few days.
Lots of tourists and college peeps, but it just adds to the atmosphere.
There's also a cheap bus service to Oxford which runs every hour, so you could do both cities if you wished to.

I do believe that is an offer too good to refuse, Rodeo! Not only are Oxford and Cambridge ace but Hetan and Mal are lovely hosts. Their dogs are very forgiving too!

I may well also be in Oxford when you go if you go the right time, so you potentially risk a triple dose of Toby magic. Poor bastard.

Beauty! I'll cheerfully and gladly take up any offer of accommodations! I'm still working on a travel itinerary but I'll have it formed up by this weekend. Then I'll get details to and fro all my wonderful Malaz benefactors.

In other news, sorted out of my banking and cash for the trip. Thank goodness for Visa.

I'll just say I'm insanely jealous right now, Rodeo. Sounds like you'll be having a blast. :p

Also, I insist you drink a Brit or two under the table. Show 'em what's what.

Why is it that I spent 5 weeks in London before I knew any of you existed? WHY!!!!

Oh, the books weren't written yet.*

Any suggestions on how to trick the wife into thinking I have a "business trip" to the UK and it's somehow not reimbursed and has to be funded from my own pocket?

Rodeo, I drank in so many different pubs, and I never had the same beer twice. England is brilliant (with a nod to the lovely 3 days I spent in N. Wales, too.) Aaaahhhhh, memories.

*and considering how young a lot of you are, I doubt I could have gone drinking with you anyways. I was there in 1999.
