hello everyone,

long time lurker here, finally decided to make an account.

have finished the series about three years ago, still postponing my first reread, hoping to forget as much as possible before rereading so I can immerse myself again in the malazan world.

absolutely loved FoL, can't wait for walk in shadow.

So, I guess I am here to introduce myself.

I have read the entire main series and I am now catching up on IE's books, as well as eagerly awaiting Walk in Shadow!!! The richness and depth of the world created by SE, and IE have captivated my imagination for years now. Can't wait to read through some topics in these forums and hopefully contribute a couple of cents that people will find useful.

Hey guys and gals!

Making my intro post.

All I can say is I'm amazed and was amazed throughout the ten book journey. About to start FoL after just finishing FoD(which was awesome as well) then will become active in other threads! Perhaps I'll hit up the Novels series while waiting for the Shadow novel!

Looking forward to some good discussions!

Welcome aboard folks,
I haven't been here very long myself, but the Wiki has been a great source while I was making my way though the books (several times over) and this place sure has been a lot of fun. Working my way through the I.C.E. books currently, pausing for a re-read of the S.E. book which are so deep they easily yield even more new insights each time I return to them.
have fun, see ya around.

Hello gataap, welcome after all this time of us not knowing you were watching

Forget about the need to forget - the moment you start your re-read, you'll realise how much you didn't take in in the first place. You'll be amazed!

Bonjour fellow Malazites! I wish you all a wonderful night(or whatever phase of the daily cycle you're going through in your country/realm)!
I'm so happy to be here, in the middle of Bonehunters, was just astounded by the impressive display of magic by Quick Ben(as always)...
I love Erikson, i love the books. Many find the style tedious, but that's what I call literature, what's wrong with using ostentatious vocabulary?
I love the vibrant world of... is it Wu? Love the complexities of sorcery and the fascinating way in which Erikson describes the universe...
Anyway, hello and I'm looking forward to many hours of heated discussions and sharing of theories about the beautiful and exotic series...Posted ImagePosted Image

Welcome! I envy you reading MoI for the first time.

Just to give you a few tips:

DO NOT GOOGLE ANYTHING. You can and will be spoiled. Happened to me, happened to a lot of people.

If you have any questions, ask here, in the appropriate book subforum and we will help you out.

I have never googled a book when I am reading it in case of spoilers. Those people that do, deserve to be spoiled.

hey ya :p im moey and i just finished deadhouse gates a few hours ago and can't wait to start memories of ice!!! i must confess im still confused and feel a bit lost at times, (like what exactly are ascendants and how do you become one?)but thats kinda fun and refreshing :p not getting spoonfed every detail and loads of dumps of information, makes me feel like im one of the new characters in a story who just gets what's going on as they go along the journey.

Hi everyone. My name is Brood, I have been a member of this forum for over 18 years, and I am to be blamed!!

That said, I'm back, after a long hiatus. This time, it might last longer than one visit, or it might not... who knows!

Hi all you new people... and Caladan, the reformed, reformed Malazan addict ;)

If you have any questions, just post them on any of the relevant boards here and some of our resident experts will be along soon enough.

If you would like to use the Malazan Wiki - only access it via the New Reader's Zone and follow the instructions to avoid spoilers. As Andorion pointed out previously, do not use google as you are guaranteed spoilers in the search results without having set eye on any website.

Hi, I'm Emma and I just joined, I'm on the second book right now and going slowly. It's strange, I usually read quite quickly, but these books are just really nice to mull over and think about in between reading sessions. I've never experienced anything quite like it before, it's great. So yeah, hello :)

Hi all, thought I'd say hello before potentially starting my first re-read. I think I followed the following order (mostly but not quite the published order) the first time around, with the first B&KB compilation thrown in somewhere (haven't read the rest of the novellas yet):
GotM, DG, MoI, HoC, MT, BH, NOK, RG, ROTCG, TTH, SW, DOD, OST, TCG, BaB, FoD, Asl

I'm coming back from a nice long break from books, the internet, and lots of other things. I was going to buy "Fall of Light" but realized that I didn't remember a whole lot about FoD. I think my memory of the main sequence is a bit less foggy but I thought now was a good time for a full re-read.

So I'm going to follow D'rek's spoiler(free) chart and do something like this:
GotM -> BF -> DG -> tLoLE -> WoBM -> MOI -> HoC -> MT -> NoK -> tBH -> tHD -> RG -> RotCG -> TtH -> GoG -> SW -> DoD -> OST -> tCG -> BaB -> Asl -> CPT -> FoD -> FoL -> WIS

Please do let me know if that's not the best idea for a re-read for whatever reason :wallbash: Otherwise I'm off to get lost in the books ... again. I'm a slow reader (some of the books took me 4+ weeks the first time around) so I might be at it awhile

PS: I really wish I didn't have to read *those* bits of DG and also DoD but see no way around that. You all know the parts I refer to. Well written and impactful, hell yes. Hard to read, also yes atleast for me.

Hi all,
Just posting a general hello. I joined the forum recently after finishing my second read through of the Malazan series, and still having unanswered questions leading me to the wiki. This is my favourite book series, and I genuinely have never read anything which made me feel so connected to the characters. I'm not (completely) ashamed to admit the books reduced me to tears on occasion, which I have never even been close to with a book before!
I'm just on here to read around, try and understand how others have experienced the books, and generally put off starting GOTM again. For the record, I haven't read all the spin offs yet, but haven't been as big a fan of Esslemont's work so far.
See you about.
Because some things matter more than others.

Welcome!

Esslemont's books do have a slightly different feel to them, but at the very least they will provide a lot of padding out of the world and pick up loose threads or abandoned storylines from the MBotF series. So just on that premise they are still worth the read. His Empire prequel trilogy (or at least the first book of it which is published so far, called 'Dancer's Lament') is absolutely fantastic though. I'll happily vouch that you will enjoy that one even if you didn't enjoy all of his Malazan Empire novels.
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

Thanks for the recommendation. I do still enjoy them regardless, and I'll put Lament up to the top of my list to get into next.
Because some things matter more than others.
