Hello everyone!
I have been aware of this forum for a long time - being a lurker in the facebook group. Now I want to start discussing all things Malazan with like-minded people, so I've registered here.
I have read all the books (SE and ICE) once, and have started on re-read recently. Also reading other stuff, mostly in the dark/gritty fantasy area. Glen Cook, Abercrombie and so on. To me Steven Erikson is unique as an author both in his ability to create so many engaging characters, and in the way the series portrays the magnitude of the world, the passing of time and the importance of history.
Looking forward to participating here - you seem like a great bunch!

Hello everyone! I got into this series a few years ago thanks to the Something Awful forums thread on the books and have been hooked ever since! I'm currently finishing up my second read (about a third of my way through Crippled God) and actually just finished Dancer's Lament about an hour ago. I'm excited to be a member of these forums, especially with Fall of Light coming up. This is my favorite series so I'm looking forward to getting into discussions with everyone!

Hello all! I'm a massive fan of the Malazan world and its amazing to find a site where there are so many others who share my addiction. I've read every book that's out and am in the middle of my first reread. I love all fantasy books as a whole and MBotF is one my favourite series along with Glen Cooks the Black Company, Robin Hobbs Farseer books, Discworld and ASOIAF.

I started the Book of the Fallen a few years ago. And loved it after the first few pages. Okay, At the beginning I was also really really confused.
I have read the Main Series up to the Bonehunters (In German, the re-released books) and from Esslemont up to Orb Sceptre Thron. But I have read enough spoilers to know a lot of things that will happen.
Currently I'm reading Dancer's Laments and doing a re-re-reread of Gardens of the Moon for the german version of the wiki I'm helping to improve.

Hello everyone
. I am a 36 year old male human from the west coast of Norway. I found out about Erikson through a little nerdy R Scott Bakker forum.
I first started the series two years ago, and quit halfway through DG. Picked it up again six months later on, and then quit again halfway through HOC. Picked it up again november last year and now I have just started RG.
The reasons I struggled is mainly because I am latecomer to the fantasy genre. Before I started on this series I had only read LOTR, GRRM and Bakker. I never played any RPGs or dungeon and dragons etc either, BUT I am a huge fan of philosophizing, and I question my own existence on a daily basis.
So, I struggled with the terminology but loved the philosophical musings. I also feel that some of his philosophical musings really match my own. so that kept me going. I am also intrigued by not having a clue about what is going on.
I have thought about starting all over again, but I think I will just push on and then re read all of it immediately. I guess that is not uncommon around here

Welcome! Not having a clue on your first read is in fact the standard. If you like philosophy thats a bonus and the books are enriched by that. And everything improves on a reread. You understand things, you make connections you missed, you pick up on foreshadowing...
If in doubt, feel free to post your questions to the appropriate book forum. Stay out of General Topics till you are done to avoid spoilers, and never google anything

Hi all,
Just starting the Malazan journey. I plan to read the Malazan books, the Esslemont novels and the kaharkaras trilogy though not the novellas. It's going to be a long long journey since I don't have a lot of reading time, the plan is to put in an hour a day during lunch at work and squeeze in whatever time I can get after putting the kids to bed.
As for my other reading preferences my top three authors are:
1 - Sanderson (what a genius)
2 - Scott Lynch (Missing Locke a lot these days)
3 - Jim Butcher (Go Dresden Go)
My two pet hates are:
1 - Peter Brett (for ruining a perfectly great book with lousy sequels)
2 - Paolinni (it's obvious
)
