I purchased Gardens of The Moon a couple of weeks ago and am really looking forward to reading it. I have read many posts here and have a small idea of what is to come. To me this series seems to generate more chatter than any other. I am sure I will enjoy it as I like trying new stuff and really like something challenging that I can get my teeth into. The best part is sometimes when books are complex as this usually needs a re-read which can often be as fun as the first read.
So far I have skimmed through the introduction by the author which accompanied my copy. Although it does not surprise me it does leave me a little bemused that publishers would suggest the dumbing down of a book. Unfortunately so many must only see the value in money terms not in the quality and ambition of what is written.

Hi folks,
Imperial Apprentice here.
Just bought Gardens of the moon and am drawn into it like never before. The last series I read was "The Dark Tower"- by Stephen King. Sadly it came to such a startling end that I could not pick another book for months. Loved the book and have been going through TOR.com for like minded books when I came across Malazan. No looking back from there on.
I guess I need to steer clear from all book discussion forums till I get through atleast the first book.Posted Image
Cheers!!

Dark Tower is great for the first four books. Sadly after that it turns into a bit of a 'Stephen King self-appreciation party', with lots of forced attempts to pull all his other works into the DT universe. Cringe-worthy almost. A real shame. No such problems with the Malazan books!

(Well, unless we'll find the 'ASF Willful Child' appear through a Warren rent...)

Hope you'll enjoy the ride.
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

Ahem.. I just came through the warren rent for the first time. So have no clue as to what that comment was about.
I agree with you regarding the Dark tower series. But the last one was a wonderful ride as well along with that conclusion.. My heart cried out for Roland.

Hello. I'm LK901, though since this is the Malazan Empire I've chosen Ammanas_ as my display name. *giggles*
I've read the first 5 books of MBotF, going to wait before buying the Bonehunters. I also love Fantasy in general, so any Brandon Sanderson, J.R.R Tolkien, Patrick Rothfuss or Joe Abercrombie, feel free to message me if you want a good argument on which author is best ;)

I think that's all.

Hello, fellow irishman. Glad to see I'm not the only one from this miserable rain magnet ;)

EDIT: Never been a member of a forum before. Are double posts considered inappropriate?

You might want to consider reading Ian Esslemont's 'Night of Knives' first. His (currently) six Malazan novels intertwine with Erikson's Book of the Fallen. You can find spoiler-free suggestions to a good read order here:

http://forum.malazan...d-order-thread/

In a nut shell, the consensus seems to be that the best reading order if you want to encompass all the available novels (leaving out the short stories, i,.e Bauchelain & Korbal Broach stuff), is:

Gardens of the Moon (Steven Erikson), Deadhouse Gates (SE), Memories of Ice (SE), House of Chains (SE), Midnight Tides (SE), Night of Knives (Ian C. Esslemont; this can also be read straight after GotM, but you already passed that point), Bonehunters (SE), Reaper's Gale (SE), Return of the Crimson Guard (ICE), Toll the Hounds (SE), Stonewielder (ICE), Dust of Dreams (SE), Cripled God (SE), Orb Sceptre Throne (ICE), Blood and Bone (ICE), Assail (ICE). If you are a masochist, you could also read 'Orb Sceptre Throne' inbetween 'Dust of Dreams' and 'the Cripled God'.

Hello new to the site but read all the books of mbotf and the Malazan empire twice now gonna go a third time before fall of light comes out hopefully and this world, races and people are feckin amazing best series ever and what a geezer they both are for doing away with fucking elves and orcs absolute fucking epic books and I hope they never ever ruin them by making a film series of em but they won't luckily cause it's just to damn big lol I wouldn't mind seeing a animated series though but it would have to be a direct copy of the books any deviation from any storyline would royaly piss me right off and you will know what Icarium having a kid with kilmandaros which grows up and has a kid with karsa orlong would be like, the earth will break asunder

Hello, just found the forum today! Glad to be a part of it! I'm on my second read through at the moment. Currently on Toll the Hounds. I finished the main series then read the ICE books, as well as Forge of Darkness, and then immediately began reading! The first read was great, but the second read is so much better! Especially after reading ICE's additions and FoD, and getting some more background on a lot of stuff. I cannot wait for the next Kharkanas books to come out!
Spoiler

Not everyone has read all of the books. Please put spoilers around the bits in the later books.

Thanks Venge
