So just wanted to stop in here and say hi and introduce myslef. Only found out about this place cause I was looking up things about Anomander one day and ran across his cage match thing over at suvudu. Wasted a few hours reading through that hellish thread. Kept seeing this place mentioned so I said why the hell not? So here I am and in true Imass style I want to spread misery to the tyrants hence my name.

Were you the Assasin who got that Venezeulan tyrant.

Hello fellow fans!
I'm re-reading this series and am currently on HoC. Throughout the tenth book I was excited to finish so I could read the series again. It's exciting to see things discussed earlier in the books and realize, 'oh yes, they actually did explain that!' It's also fun to pick up on the foreshadowing. I'm.not aware of many other series that are like this.
I think Mr. Erikson's series are great to 'nerd out' to. I have read the beginning of Mr. Esselmont's series and look forward to getting through all of those, but I'm probably more likely to finish a re-read of MBoTF first.

You could integrate the ICE books into your re-read. Look for a reading order thread somewhere.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Hi. I'm new to all of this. Found SE after looking at Fantasy site recommendations whilst waiting for the next GoT, and have been blown away by the calibre of his writing. I found myself becoming a fan- the characters, philosophy, war tactics, suspense and humour dominate my conversations.
In this busy life it takes me 6 weeks to read a book and have just Reaper's Gale but found myself pretty lost. GoM was last year sometime. Great site to remember all I had forgotten and hope will fulfil my need to talk to other Malazites about this amazing series.

Greetings, All! I'm new to the forum, but it seems like a great place to gain insight into the Malazan series. Some friends recently turned me on to Erikson and I've just completed GotM and have to say it's one of the best books I've read. I'm a big fan of authors like Gene Wolfe (Shadow of the Torturer, etc.), Dan Simmons (particularly the Hyperion series), and Tolkien, of course. Erikson seems to blend all of my favorite elements from each of these into one, and I'm psyched that there are so many thousands of pages ahead of me!

Hello everybody. I've been a Malazan fan for years. I discovered the series the way I used to discover most good series back before I used the internet, and that was by browsing a bookstore's fantasy section and thinking the back cover description and blurbs made it sound very interesting and right up my alley(oh how I miss this way of discovering books). This was right when Deadhouse Gates was first released in the US because I remember that it was on a new release table up front and I got both that and Gardens that day and proceeded to gluttonously devour them, leaving myself fiending for more of this awesome series that I could find no more installments for in any bookstores at that time. It was then that I turned to my father for help, and asked him to help me look the series up on his computer the next time I was visiting him. I was so happy to find that there were three more sequels already published and with my Dad's help, managed to order them off the internet from overseas. Oh, man, it was like Christmas when I would visit Dad and there would be some Malazan there in a shipping box waiting for me to open.

Anyways, it was probably a year, give or take, that I finally started to become internet savvy and order my own books online. Eventually I discovered fantasy sites and forums and lurked them for a good, long while before actually posting on them. I've lurked here on and off for the past couple of years and now I'm happy to say I'm a member. Hope I have some stuff to say that hasn't already been said a bunch of times and you all are tired of hearing.

Greetings. I starting reading the Malazan series at the very end of 2012. I first became aware of in the Malazan series after reading the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series and searching out other fantasy books. The Malazan books are different in many ways, but still great. I also picked up the First Law Trilogy, but have not had time to start on that yet.

Pretty much the same here. Although I read all Abercrombie's books (Red Country apart) after finishing ASOIAF. Prior to reading Martin I wasn't a massive SF/Fantasy fan although Iain M. Banks's Culture books are amongst my favourite novels.

I've just finished Gardens of the Moon which I loved.

Hi guys, i also started reading Malazan series at the end of 2012. Internet buddy told me that he start reading an awesome fantasy novel and pointed out that it is really complex but also really fun. In a month or so i bought it myself and man i got hooked up. I fear that after i finishing it i won't be satisfied with any fantasy novel out there hah :D I love how many characters there is in this huge world with long history and so many things happening all around. And then on microscopical level - development of characters and so many awesome "little" moments. I love it :apt:

Hello out there in Malazan land - Didn't notice this thread until recently, so already posted without introducing. My apologies. I found the MBotF recommended on a Fantasy/SciFi site last November and picked it instead of others because one reviewer said the female characters were NOT "cringeworthy". That can be hard to find. I thoroughly enjoy archeology and anthropology and love the depth of the worlds and societies Steve Erikson has built with his knowledge. You can tell it isn't just someone sitting around going "Ooo, this would be sooo cool." His background really shows, right down to knowing what to call things lol. I am apparently unusual in that Gardens of the Moon is one of my favorite of the books. I loved the complex, multi-layered world but also enjoyed the ambiguity. It allowed my own imagination to flutter around where it wanted to. I also could definitely follow the storyline, so I didn't understand the complaints about it not having a discernible plot.

I am currently reading Dust of Dreams, though I am told I have to go back and read Return of the Crimson Guard before advancing any further. I started RotCG and like it all right, but find it hard to get in to because of the difference in writing and being so far in to the story as told by Erikson.

Hey All,
Re-reading the Malazan series and am at Dust of Dreams. The re-read has been excellent. I was surprised by how many things became clear when the books are read back to back vice over the span of several years. I actually initially started with Memories of Ice before going back to Gardens and continuing through the series.

Cheers all,
Kempster

Hahaha, welcome back, man. Glad you're not dead.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Hello all. I've just joined. I'm in the middle of House of Chains!

I finished reading the first 3 trilogies of Robin Hobb, Farseer to Tawny man and swore I wouldn't read another fantasy book.

Happy I've started on this. Its pretty awesome, however much in the dark I can feel about whats going on!

Loving some of the characters so far...

Look forward to getting further in.

Any initiations I need to know about??? :p

I'm not really new (registered in '05) but I haven't posted or even visited in quite a long while. I just started a reread of the Malazan books and thought I would drop by. I couldn't believe my username was still active. The place sure looks cooler. Other than the obvious, I love Wolfe, Vance, Cook, Matthew Hughes, and many others. Look forward to meeting everyone.
