Righto.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Just in case there is actual confusion here, the above is a joke about the Mayan Calendar and apocalyptic bull crap of Dec. 21st, 2012.

Yep. If you substitute the word "Malazan" for "Mayan", read the series in a backwards order, enter the word "frivolous" every four words and read it while ridonculously drunk the book really talks about the end of the world as we know it.

After refusing to look at any websites or forums about this series until I have finished the last book (I'm a spoiler-phobe), I have finally just finished The Crippled God! So here I am! Looking forward to hearing other thoughts and ideas about Erikson's fantastic world and huge set of characters.

Does that mean there's still time to spoil you on ICE's books?

Only if you hurry...

Oh yes. Welcome new people. Say "Hi!" if you see me around. I'll probably ignore you though...
If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. Bertrand Russell

Well you just wait for Malazan Santa Claus to give four young Kanese men and women powerful gifts to combat the Witchwolves of Winter.

Hi! Just registered for the forum after finding it while googling for a map of the world for the books. I started GotM over the summer and have gotten through The Bonehunters this past week. Taking a break until after Christmas then I'll hopefully start Reaper's Gale soon. Cheers!

The Book of the Fallen has got to be, hands-down, the best fantasy series I've ever read. The sheer imaginative force involved is daunting, as I aspire to write as well. As harsh as I have been on myself before, this series has merely raised the bar for me. I have recently read Night of Knives by I. C. Esselmont, and am quite excited to continue that series, as well. The Crimson Guard was only lightly touched upon in the Book of the Fallen, and I'm very intrigued to know more.

Hi everyone, I'm done with Gardens of the Moon and about half way through Deadhouse Gates. Like alot of others I had heard the first book could be challanging to get into, and it was kind of, but Erikson has won me over. The scope of the story is getting easier to understand and follow the further I get into it. Anyways just wanted to drop in and say hi really quick.

Hi George, new too, and waited till I finished reading the whole series.

Worrywort, actually found this forum because I was looking to buy 'Forge of Darkness' and discovered the books from ICE and wanted to find out how they fit in the Malazan world. Now it seems I need to get them too!

Just beginning to explore the site- looks like alot of people have done quite a bit of work here. Thanks in advance to all of you.
