Also, I like the dueling mechanic. i bet that before day 2 is through, we have seen 4+ duels.

So this game is pretty much broken for scum. IMO, they have little chance to win.
We can probably win in a day or two because of the duel mechanic.
---
6- Victory: the Opponent dies and their role is CF'd. The Challenger's role is revealed.
5- Rout: the Opponent dies. The Challenger's name and role is revealed.
4- Retreat: both the Challenger and the Opponent's names and roles are revealed.
3- Draw/No Duel: Nothing happens. If 'Draw', it is revealed on-thread but the players are not revealed, if 'No Duel' not even the opponent is told.
2- Defeat: the Challenger dies and their name and role is revealed, but the opponent's name is also revealed.
1- Annihilated: the Challenger dies and their name and role is revealed.
The result of the duel depends on who the challenger is and who the opponent is. There is a chart. In nearly all cases, duels declared against a player of your own faction will result in no duel. Of the very few cases that do not, all but one of these cases result in retreat.
---
So basically who here is inno and wants to be CI? I'll duel you, in every single case except one, neither of us will die (either no duel or retreat and since I'm a lowly RI I doubt I'm part of the special scenario in which something else happens). Then that person will know that I am also inno, we can then both duel two other people, etc, and just make sure it is announced on-thread. Shouldn't take long to figure out who the scum are.

To clarify, if I say I'm dueling someone, if that person is not on my faction, I will either live or die but in both cases as the challenger, my role will be revealed and you will know I am CI if I live. If I die, you can take that to mean that the person I dueled is not on the town faction and just lynch them.

which is the ideal method for a symp to VPI one of his masters, too. Just say you'll duel X, then never send in the challenge, and then claim you never received a result =no duel.

I knew I had forgotten to put something in there: each player can only duel once per day.
So, added this:
Each player can only duel a maximum of once per day, including either as challenger or as opponent. Challenging a player that has already dueled that day will return no duel.
Then thought of crazy possibilities and added this, too:
A player who attempts to duel but already has that day will be replied that they have already dueled (which they might not have known).
Each player may only challenge once each day. You may be an opponent an infinite number of times.

It's pretty cool, although I do wonder if the original version of 2x 2 hours isn't a whole lot better than the westernized one...

no I don't know, actually. Why can't symps/ scum fail at initiating a duel or getting a no duel result? answer; there's nothing preventing that.
You are far, far too eager to use this dueling mechanic to claim Town.

EDIT: disregard this, rule is changed again in 15 posts or so...
Sort of. You'd only not know it if your previous duel had a 'no duel' result. Ie Zhuge Liang goes out and insults Sima Yi, saying he wears women's clothes and likes baking (actually happens much later in the book). Either Sima Yi is there and you get some sort of duel result like victory, defeat, retreat, etc. or Sima Yi is in his tent baking and misses it, in which case it was No Duel. To then go out and challenge someone else to a duel would be too much humiliation having missed the first, so you can't do it that day. Your underlings are too scared to tell you you missed it unless you are about to go and humiliate yourself by asking for another duel.
Clearly this all makes so much sense.

This is a scummy thing to say, buddy. In every single outcome except no-duel/draw, the challenger's role is revealed. In some of those cases, he also dies. It's extremely scummy to try and say that town wouldn't try to use dueling to CI themselves.
The set-up is pretty clear that nearly all cases of 'no duel' indicate that the two people are on the same FACTION, which would exclude scum. Would you duel someone, get a 'no duel' result, and then continue to insist they are on a different faction than you? Of course not, you'd likely give them the benefit of the doubt, ESPECIALLY on Day 1.
But nice try.
