I tend to stick with beer more often than not, and in those cases I typically drink Alexander Keith's India Pale Ale. To those guys who drink Bud Light Lime and claim to actually like said cooler of beers... you're sissy boys!
In terms of hard liquor I'm a big fan of gin, although I think I get a bit mouthy when ingesting large quantities of it. I also quite like rum but more and more I find myself unable to deal with the cheaper varieties. Vodka is the devil and I avoid it at all costs, whiskey though can be a nice change.

I'm a red wine drinker. I have been to a few wine tasting lessons and am trying to develop a palate. If I am in the mood for spirits, gin and tonic does for me these days since I foolishly drank myself out of most of the others and whisky sends me loopy. I stay off spirits for the most part, I do too much damage to my internal organs! Occasionally I drink lager but I'm not a huge fan and can only squeeze so much in. I like white if it is a warm day or the food requires it.
I was at a BBQ at the weekend with some European types and it was news to me that they drink red wine mixed with lemonade in hot weather. I thought it was the height of bad taste and would be gross but it actually tasted like good Sangria. I heartily recommend it during BBQ weather.

A pint of mixed half bitter half mild.
If it's got to be lager then a Corona or a Peroni
If I can get it Gulden Draak a Belgian beer which you rarely get in the UK
Non-beer: Gin and tonics and Bushmills Single Malt

You're a stronger man than I. I haven't been able to palate the stuff since breaking into my mom's liquor cabinet when I was young. Baaad stuff, but funny story.

I'm with you there. And darker brews.
I've been trying to acquire a distinguished palate for whiskey, and as initiation of the project my friend's father took me on the "whiskey world tour" of his personal collection. I adore the stuff, of all kinds. And whoever commented on Japanese vintages was right- they're quite unusual...

Eh, everyone has that one type of liquor they can handle better than the rest. In this case I'm shocked how well I can drink gin, to the point of being able to drink it straight out of the bottle with no problems. Makes things go tits up rather quickly though, haha.

A common mistake that. Expensive whisky does not equal better whisky. Laprohaig 10 y.o. is better by far in my opinion than Laprohaig 25 y.o, yet the price of the 25 is more than twice that of the 10.
Generally the most expensive single malts are the ones that've been the longest on barrel, but that only means they're more rounded and mellow, not to mention they've aquired more of the taste from the wood (so a 25 y.o. stored on old burbon barrels will taste more of vanilla, coconut and citrus than will a 10 y.o, but the 10 y.o will have a stronger smoky taste and so on) ...

Apart from having great taste when it concerns HAWT women, you also know your beers

I drink beer and wine. Bad things happen when I hit spirits, not the least of them being that my stomach turns upside down. If I am somehow forced to drink spirits, it's usually wodka (the only spirits I'll drink straight), wodka red-bull, or campari mixed with orange juice.
Beer: I prefer dark beer. Guiness, Leffe Dubbel (usually you'll find a couple of these in my fridge) La Trappe double, all sorts of Bock ale. Leffe Blond is also a favourite.
Wine: white, mostly, although I do drink red in the evenings before going to bed. Don't drink rosé. Prosecco if I feel like getting horrendously drunk on what is essentially lemonade. Champagne, every once a while, usually as a result of a stupid bet on a Big Night Out.
Everyone is entitled to his own wrong opinion. - Lizrad

Old whiskey is more expensive because you lose something like 15% of the volume in the barrel every year that it ages. Which means to make the same amount of profit off an old barrel you have to sell what's in it for much more, since there's so much less of it. I agree that very old whiskeys generally are generally overrated, you can get too much of the taste of the wood. In fact at a whiskey tasting I went to one of the speakers said they took reviews from 10 - 15 different whiskey magazines and worked out the average scores of about 100 different whiskeys. All of the whiskeys in the top 20 were in the range of 12 - 18 years old.
In response to the OP - a
And Japanese whiskeys are definitely worth trying

Depends on the circumstances.
In a local that I know does good pints, pint of becks vier please. (although theres one bar that does staropramen, its great)
Cold bottles - Bud (you go to hell brood, a cold bud is damned tasty)
My biggest problen is not staying on the beer long enuf.
when I shift on its either a bottle of rose and a pint glass with a little ice(bend in the river from an offy, usually Gallo in a bar, about 3 bottles is the par) or spirits.
Vodka, practically ever bar/ offy here serves smirnoff as their 'good' vodka, so its become my staple vodka. finlandia/ stoli is better if you get it but the few bars that offer choice offer Boru or goose.
Or gin.
oh gin how do i love thee, let me count the ways!
it makes me happy crazy drunk but Gins my favourite, used to drink it near raw with ice, but being forced back into the vodka habit due to rounds and drinking games has taken my edge off.
shots are a no no, used to be a demon for tequila but a bad christmas eve put that on the skìds.
oh and akevit is disgusting

And given just how AWESOME QC micros are, i really feel for you. Anything from Unibroue is golden these days. Those massive 1.5L bottles with the cork are pure beer awesomejuice.
On the Sleeman's front, i seem to have outgrown it. I used to like it more, tho the dark is still a fave.

This drives me nuts. I have a few acquintances who have 'whiskey cabinets', and they are always going on about this 50yr and than 35 yr and then they break out the 10 or the blended and i have to restrain myself from mentioning how much better they are to ensure i'm invited back.
As for the OP, there are far too many awesome and interesting alcoholic beverages out there to ever restrict myself to one form or another. And i'll generally order something i have never tried over something i have.
But, a couple of favorites...
Mixed drink - whiskey/cola.
Feeling Pretentious - vodka martini, dry, neat, olives. No brand preference but Level is awesome.
Wine - yes. Red over white but i'm fine with white. Shiraz over Merlot, Pinot over Cab Sauv'.
Beer - not a fan of the big brands unless they are all that's available. Quebec and Ontario spoil you for choice of excellent microbrew.
Shooters - all good. Sambuca is a current fave.
Latest find - plum infused sake, served so cold it makes your teeth ache.
Wisdom received - nothing good comes of mixing Red Bull with alcohol.
- Abyss, all things to all alcohols.

Well I was meaning more on the terms of my price range... As in a 10 year old Aberlour is much more expensive (and delicious) than a blended Bells...

so no one here even considers Bud Light Lime drinkable? Really?
Im a drinker, and drink just about everything
and its nice having something knew to catch a buzz with that taste different and not bad.

LOL +rep for SB HAHAHA
I think of Corona the same as i do Bloody Maries ( even though i love the hell out of BM's), It is a sunday morning drink after a bender weekend.
I enjoy dark beer for the most part. I love warsteiner dunkel, newcastle, and for afternoons a bluemoon with an orange.
For spirits, Whisky and rum for the most part. SoCo and dr pepper, Dark rum and dr pepper, jack and cola. If i'm wanting something to sip on strait up usually it's makers mark or jamison.
Shooters, Jager bomb and vegas bomb probably are my two favs. Vegas Bomb is crown a dash of peach schnops and red bull.

Japan has some weird alcohol tax laws. Beer is overpriced. Hard liquor is cheaper than in the States. (Jameson for $18 US? Come ooooon!)
If you walked into my apartment right now you would find:
Asahi Super Dry beer in the fridge. It's not great, but it's the most drinkable of the macro beers here. Import stuff is just so prohibitively expensive.
A bottle of "Cono Sur" merlot from Chile.
A bottle of malbec from Argentina.
A bottle of Jameson.
A bottle of chilled sake from Nagano.
--------------------
If I could add anything to that right this instant it would be a bottle of Yamazaki single malt. A bottle of ImoJochu (potato shochu). And a case of Spotted Cow. I miss the spotted cow.....
And Zanth, as a Wisconsinite who used to live in Miller Park every summer, and a TRUE BLUE 'MERICAN, I demand that you put aside that foreign inbev owned budlime slop and drink Miller Chill instead.
