The big American brews might as well be poured down the sink.

I like the smaller breweries, though. Sierra Nevada, Anchor Steam (SF native brew), and some others.

Thread Necromancy! What foul sorcery is this?

Although I see that despite now earning a salary my drinking habits have remained pretty much the same, although I think I've moved from the bottom shelf of the wine rack to the one just above it. And realised I like Pinotage more than Merlot. I have also drunk enough Jaeger bombs that I now like them.

Wine:
Sweet whites. Can't stand red at all. Riesling, Moscato, Semillion Savignion Blanc - generally nothing too dry.

Last few months I've acquired quite a taste for whiskey and rum. Can't drink vodka anymore.

Wish they sold these in .pl.

Agreed I'm a fan of the craft beer movement that's been going on for sometime now. Stone, Victory, New Belgium, 21st Amendment and Highland have some great offerings.

Sweet tooth here, so beers, ales, stouts, bitters, all are drinkona non grata. I love ciders and perry (especially Kopparberg, Magners Pear, Scrumpy Jack, Old Rosie and other cloudy ciders, and my favourite, Rekorderlig), Baileys (especially with creme de menthe), Advocaat, and sweet cocktails.
It is perfectly monstrous the way people go about nowadays saying things against one, behind one's back, that are absolutely and entirely true.

Of course, I won't refuse champagne or a (good) prosecco.

Liquor:
Wodka is the only liquor I like straight, apart from the occassional shot of slivovich (the benefit of several half/ quarter eastern european lady friends, who see it as an ideal party opener). I'm terribad at handling liquor straight, so I mostly drink cocktails.

Mixed drinks: (strawberry or classic) mojito, campari-jus d'orange, wodka bitter lemon, wodka Red Bull, and (usually only made at home) a wodka-red bull-champagne mix that Darkwatch will tell me is not called a Liquid Cocaine, but what is called a Liquid Cocaine here.

@ Jitsukerr: Advocaat? Advocaat? I worry for your soul -_- may I PLEASE believe you don't add whipped cream?

Springbok as in an amarula and mint liquer shooter? Or is this some other drink with the same name?

They have just released the most insanely good caramel infused vodka here called Lovoka. Apparently it's made in SA and they can't keep it on the shelves. Normally I hate vodka but the stuff tastes fantastic, I wish they would make a website so I could put a link up.

IIt's also known as Bock, and it's not brand related - a simple supermarket already packs boks from several companies. Instead, it is a very dark beer (6% to 8%), slightly caramel in taste, that's traditional available between april and october (spring and autumn bok).

I like beer, wine, and single malts.

Beer: There are so many great beers out there it's hard to know where to start. Anything from Spaten. Old Speckled Hen. Saint Arnold Fancy Lawnmower. Marzens, Kolsches, Bocks. Not a huge fan of stouts or wheat beers.

Wine: Prefer reds (but not the really heavy malbecs, zins, or syrahs), and enjoy the sweeter whites too.

Single malt: Not hugely experienced in this realm, but really like Scapa. Neat, of course.

I find bourbon revolting, but I do keep a bottle of Maker's Mark on hand for making pecan pie.

Also keep a bottle of Kirschwasser for fondue and the occasional bombe.

I stay the hell away from other stuff, like vodka or gin.

Most expensive liquor I've tried: Johnnie Walker Blue Label ($225/bottle) and Sam Adams Utopias ($179/bottle).

You might like Highland Park another Orcadian whisky, they have quite a few different ages and limited edition malts, some of them are extremely expensive though, their main 12 year is quite reasonably priced. I was buying a malt as a thank you for someone and dad seen it as the perfect opportunity to make sure I was informed on the nature of whisky, blended and malt, he figures its a sin to put anything aside from ice and a little water in whisky. -_-

I've never been able to stomach the taste of alcohol, I spat out the wine I was given on my 18th as soon as I tried it. Some would possibly argue that Irn-Bru is my poison, it does look almost radioactive :).

Single malt whisky - one of/the only best things about being Scottish is the amount of this stuff you get for pretty reasonable prices. I tend towards smokier flavours like Talisker, but don't really have a firm favourite. Highland Park is up there. There's a wonderful whisky club at Glasgow Uni, £5 for six drams of very expensive malts. It's been great for expanding my knowledge, but mostly knowledge of stuff I'll never be able to afford. The other week was their 20th anniversary, and every whisky was worth over £100. It was... heaven :Oops:

For beer, continuing the trend of being absurdly pretentious, I mostly go for Belgian/German beers when I can afford it. I found my favourite early, Duvel, and have stuck with it. Can't beat it. Sadly, I broke my only Duvel glass last night :lol: I need to try more Trappist ales, have been on the lookout for Chimay blue, but money is a factor, especially now that I'm moving out.

Partial to a Green Goblin cider every now and again, and I'll drink whatever's on offer to raise my blood sugar - diabetic, and for some reason nobody can really explain drinking most alcohol lowers your blood sugar. Despite alcohol being a sugar. They don't know.
