Peter Jackson's Facebook acct. posted a new production diary video from the end of the first 54 days of filming on THE HOBBIT, really interesting stuff, some set shots showing Martin Freeman's Bilbo talking with Hugo Weaving's Elrond, and then they do some NZ scouting for the next block of shooting starting in Jackson hits the editing lab. All in all it's nice to be able to follow production like this. It's also great to see Andy Serkis get the Second Unit directing duties as he's been involved from the get go and knows the style Jackson shoots for. anyways, go check it out on FB....and while you wait...I give you Oin and Gloin (Gimli's father)

Fili and Kili

Oh hells yeah. These production shots are awesome. I love that both of these two look like the younger dwarves that they are. Great stuff!

Man the stuff looks great so far and I'm pumped for this and I'm honestly just as pumped to hear the new soundtracks for the movies as the last ones were freaking amazing and completely captured the feel of the story.

I'm really liking the eclectic look...not to mention the familial looks. We know that Thorin has a smoldering hero kind of look, and therefore Kili and Fili sharing that look is nice since they are also descended from Durin. Then there is Oin and Gloin...both of who resemble Rhys Davies "Gimli" dwarf look, Dori, Nori and Ori all look alike somewhat and now with Bombur, Bifur and Bofur there is a resemblance there too. I like that Jackson has gone out of his way to make the dwarves in a movie with 13 dwarves have distinctive looks so we aren't staring at 13 Gimli's.

So far scoring on all layers for me.

Oh and MWKarsa...yeah, Howard Shore's Score for the LOTR movies is probably in my top 3 favourite scores ever...can't wait to see what he does with these flicks.

Is Balin the dwarf Dilbert?
It is perfectly monstrous the way people go about nowadays saying things against one, behind one's back, that are absolutely and entirely true.

3rd Production Diary and it's the BEST one yet! Lots of dwarves, some scenes being shot with Gollum's cave, Elrond and Galadriel...so awesome.

Shame they just look like people with big feet, rather than, you know, dwarves...
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Yah they could have at least hired some real dwarves to help them out with the culture.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Me too!

Oh man, seeing this trailer is like coming home again. I LOVE the LOTR trilogy, so this is just the sweetest icing on the cake for me!

I'm still worried about Jackson and the more whimsical tone (I wanted Del Toro), but fuck it:

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Coz that looks great.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

Dwarves=funny little people who do some random, stupid stuff. I hated the movie-Gimli, and it appears we now have twelve of them (Thorin at least seems to be nailing it).
I mean sure, there were some funny scenes in LotR and the Hobbit, but Jackson is totally overdoing it. Again.
