I'm...better. Found distraction on facebook. And the southpark movie came on uncensored. And i ate one of my few remaining australian tea tree oil sticks. I'm going to make it. I might have to kill to get through the night though.

This is an inspiring thread. I'm proud'a you, Ray. Stay strong!

Rough...as in going out carrying a derringer and leaving a trail of bloody corpses?

Seriously though, keep it up. You can do it!

I reset myself last week unfortunately, thursday night was the first cruise of the summer on my sailboat (yeah, it's been raining a lot) and I needed to be relaxed since the other people on the boat were all smoking.
I know excuses, excuses.
Blah blah
Anyways, made it through last weekend without smoking no problems. My smoke buddy has decided he's smoked out too and wants to get off the nic sticks so we're going to help each other out.
Really, as long as he doesn't start up again, I'm good. I rarely do it on my own.

Good luck. Remember, if you never cheat, you can never accidentally start again.
AIJ: No trail of corpses this time. I avoided killing this time. I'm almost out of aussie chew sticks though, and when that happens, there's going to be bodies dropping.

Oh, tonight's been a struggle. I am a rock though. A non smoking itself rock. Over three weeks in. I still feel like I've shut a dear friend out of my life, but I'll be better off without them in my life.
If I make it through this weekend, I'm home free. Going to sit in clouds of smoke at the casino watching UFC. I typically go through two packs just in the evening at the casino. If I can stay strong there, I'm officially a non smoker again.
Funny story. By quitting smoking, and drinking several Monsters every day, and any other vices, and being thrifty at the grocery store, I think I'm actually making more money unemployed than I was during the school year subbing before I quit all that.

dang. Got reset again on the sailboat.
I am trying though. I haven't touched the things during sober-times at all.
It doesn't help that my willpower evaporates completely when I get drunk. There isn't even a hint of it...funny that.
It also doesn't help that I've gotten mad at my wife so many times in the past for bitching at my smoking "cause its only once in awhile" that she doesn't even try anymore.
I think the only way to get this done is to retrain her to start bitching at me again.

Nope. The only way is to retrain yourself to think like a nonsmoker. I'm sure you know some nonsmokers. Do they smoke when they drink? No, because they are NONsmokers.
You might have to quit drinking for a month or so while you quit. NOt a bad thing either.

Wow you guys are an example...this is truly inspirational, I think I'll get some of my smoking friends to read this thread to see that it's possible to quit...
I don't smoke myself, tried it for a month but never got hooked on it thankfully...
but you guys should give the argile (or hookah, or shisha, or hubble bubble, or whatever you call it) a try. It's way tastier than a smoke, doesn't leave that horrible smell, has the same satisfying effect, and best of all........it's not addictive!!!
I know you probably can't find that easily over in the western half of the world but its still worth it...but mind you, you have to try thr authentic ones, not those bongs they have in college and whatnot...
for those of you who don't know what an argileh is, its a flavored tobacco that is purified through water and lit using coals...It's the reason cod created tobacco in the first place...

I need to play this game. Think I will.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Um, if you're lighting tobacco and inhaling the smoke, regardless of exactly how it's done you're still smoking. Hookahs are easy to get here, but it defeats the point to quit smoking tobacco, butthen take up smoking tobacco a different way. It would be no different than if I said Iwas quitting, and went a bought a case of cigars. Still tobacco, still smoking.
As far as it being non-addictive, well, wrong. If you're smoking tobacco through the thing, it is still addictive. Water does not filter out the addictiveness of tobacco. Less addictive, maybe, just because you tend to do it a lot less becasue who carries a hookah around with them, but still addictive, and still with all the health risks associated with smoking. Here the water filtering will provide some benefits, but it's still bad for you.

Well no it's not addictive. cause see with the hookah you don't actually inhale the smoke into your lungs like cigs (I mean the double inhale if you get my meaning) and you would still get the satisfaction... and i'm also talking from personal experience. Last summer I used to have one daily for 6 hours+, and then I didn't have one again for like 6 months, doesn't hurt a bit...
and I'm not saying you should substitute cigs for this, i'm just saying it's worth a try sometimes....that's the thing with this, that it doesn't have that mean hook that cigs have...

That "satisfaction" you're talking about is the feeling of nicotine entering your system. Nicotine is addictive, regardless of how you smoke it. It might be less addictive than cigs because you're getting less, but water does not filter out the addictiveness of nicotine. Even if you're not inhaling, nicotine still is absorbed into the body through your mouth, which is one giant mucus membrane.
I think it's a little funny that you demonstrate that it's not addictive by telling of how you used to sit on the hookah for 6 hours a day every day. Yeah, doesn't sound addictive at all!
But the point is, non-smokers don't smoke. That's the point of this thread, becoming a non-smoker. You are a smoker. Great. Good for you. You enjoy it. Of course you do. Smoking is enjoyable. Don't you think it's a little fucked up to go to the thread where people are talking about how hard it is to quit smoking and tell them about how much fun smoking is?

Dude, sorry if that's the way you took it, I didn't mean it that way at all.....you know, to rub it in that i'm smoking (which I'm not)....you are truly a rock...
and I still disagree that what I do is addictive, and i used to sit for 6 hours out my own free will, I know that this doesn't seem that way but it is, if I was addicted, I wouldn't have been able to go dry for 6 months now would I??
but still....more power for you !!!
again sorry if you took this the wrong way
