So it's been a fulll week now. Still no cheating, no crutches. It's going ok. It's worse late at night for some reason. Crazy dreams, some bitching at the wife, lots of bitching from the wife, and a general depression that nothing will ever be fun again. So I've got that going for me.

All in all, proud of my willpower. So far.

Oh, and this frikkking tea tree sticks, while helpful for cravings, have burned the inside of my mouth I've chewed so many.

It has been proven beyond all reasonable doubt that the most powerful force on Wu is a bunch of messed-up Malazans with Moranth munitions.

Super vivid dreams every night, less wheezing when i lay down to sleep at night, depression, coughing less and when I do some nasty stuff comes up, can smell a cig from far away, smokers stink when they walk in the room now. I forgot about that, here all these years I wasn't remembering how I reeked ALL THE TIME.

good to hear you made it through the weekend.

I was off smokes for a couple weeks. Smoked a bunch on the weekend. Fuck.

Maybe I'll take you as inspiration and make it a goal too.

I'm still an off-and-onner but its getting less and less fun to smoke. I'm kind of losing the taste for it.

Cervesa, there is no such thing as an off and on smoker. You're either a smoker or a non smoker. You sir are a smoker. Good luck becoming a nonsmoker.

Apt: That made me want a smoke. No shit. Addiction is a hell of a thing.

@RLY

I realize this. I should have said infrequent, as in maybe 2-3 cigarettes per week if you were to distribute my binges across the periods where I don't smoke.

I don't really want to much anymore. I was hoping it would just kind of peter out, but drinking brings out the beast every time.

Maybe along with my "get thin on less beer" diet the non-smoking or at least far less frequent smoking will ensue.

The smoking will never just peter out. You have to make a stand.

crazy thing that addiction huh?

Fuck it. I'll quit too then.

Might as well screw up my body chemistry as much as possible all at once.

I'm interested to see what vices my mind adopts in the absence of the common ones.

Do the Wife. Do the Wife all the time.

(Didn't I already post this?)

You will stop eating too much and stop smoking.

Glad to hear it's going well, Ray. Any time you feel like you want a cig, just remember that grim, guilty feeling the last time you had one and decided, "no more". You don't want to feel like that again.

Good luck!

The last time I smoked was last Sunday, I stayed up until about 6 am chainsmoking. I smoked a half a pack one after the other and was gagging and about to puke by the end. Mmmmmm. It was so fun.

It's been over a week now. I appreciate everyone's support, it has helped. That and my big clanking pair of brass...willpowers.

At this point, RLY, your immediate nicotine need is no longer existent. Therefore, your habit is pretty much broken if you stick to it. Good job, buddy. The physical need should be a cake-walk after an entire week of non-smoke. Just don't let your brain psych you out. Keep going, and you'll feel so much better for having done so.

What's going to be real tough is the next time I go to the casino to watch mma. I always smoke like a champ because it's about the only place you can smoke indoors in washington. I'm talking two packs in 5 or 6 hours. That's going to be brutal. Not brutal enough to get me to cave.

I think the only thinkg that would get me smoking again at this point is if the wife started again. I couldn't sit and watch her smoke.

Be her strength, if she does. Nicotine is massively addictive, and yet, I feel easily quit given the right motivation.

You are her husband, thus, you should have some influence on her (albeit minor in some cases). Throw down the gauntlet of health so you can be together longer than if you didn't both smoke. While it is retarded it is also romantic, I guess.

No matter what, if one of you keeps smoking, odds are, neither will ever quit. Man up, Ray.

Basically she can't start again. It was her idea to quit in the first place. For the past five years. She knows that if she smokes one cig I'm going and buying a carton, and nobody wants that. I got it under control.

It always seems to be the way that either you're both smoking, or you're both not smoking. It always was with us two, anyway. Soooo hard to quit when the other half is still smoking.

Same with diets/healthy eating/exercise. Willpower is a bitch.

you could always try chemotherapy

My aunt got colon cancer and had to quit smoking while she was on the chemo.

She was a pack-a-day smoker for 40 years beforehand.

She tried smoking once while on the treatment and got so sick from it that she hasn't been able to even look at a cigarette since.

Or you could just think if you don't succeed, you'll be able to find out what chemo is like first hand. That's a motivator if ever you needed one I would think :p
