MT i think,it went too heavy on the politics and the book didn't have the usual brooding, oppressive atmosphere.Reminded me more of david eddings(with better characters)than silverberg.

MT Reminded you of Eddings? Have you got your hands on some secret Eddings masterwork that we don't know about?
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

I love them all, but if I have to choose a least favourite, it's probably MT.

I'd say I enjoyed the novellas the least. Probably The Healthy Dead less than Blood Follows.

My least favorite was Deadhouse Gates. Despite the Chain of Dogs, which is the best single story in the whole series so far.

I'd have to say GotM is the weakest of the 5... My favourite has to be DHG, the chain of dogs is simply amazing...

Is there a poll on this anywhere? if not we should make one

GotM for me. For reasons prior stated.

I love the intricacy and complexity of the books, and it's only in GotM in retrospect to Deadhouse and Memories. Until then it is 'just another fantasy' to a certain extent. Boss, but not epic.

My favorite is Memories of Ice, for Capistan. Deadhouse Gates next for the Chain. Then I can't choose between House of Chains and Midnight Tides.

But SOMEWHERE in the middle is a BarbaraPoppa book...

A really hard question. It would have to be Midnight Tides for me - the 'humour' bit was overdone IMO and I felt no immediate connection to the rest of the MBotF. Of course, it's still brilliant (hello Beddict brothers, hello Kuru Quan!).

DG - it's the only one that I've only managed to read once in it's entirety.
But heh, thats not because it's bad, I just can't put myself through reading that again.

Although it offers a LOT of tidbits and hints about the broader story, I'd have to go with HoC being the weakest Malazan book, imnsho. Which is still head and shoulders above any number of other fantasy texts, but it lacked some of the epic feel of the other books that really hammered them into my skull.

- Abyss, needs to clear out some skull space.

GOTM, and I gave that 9 out of 10. I loved every single book, but GOTM was like the introductory chapter for me...

I found GOTM to be the weakest of Erikson's books, mainly because its the first and the characters weren't that well developed. Though I thought the interplay between Cowl and serrat was hilarious and it hinted why the Crimson guard are so respected by the Malazans.

HOC when read in tandem with DG is IMHO the most complete book as it gives closure of sorts to the chain of dogs and it was nice to see Korbolo dom get his just deserts.

MT i find is the most complex book with MOI being the most memorable.

My fave is HOC some real nice touchs there regarding charcter development and of course the introduction of Traveller.

I'd have to say HoC is the weakest so far, for some reason it had a slightly unfinished feel about it...

might be just because it followed MoI, which is the best book yet Posted Image

I will exchange the term worst to "least totally awesome". And I choose Memories of Ice as well, or Midnight Tides.

It seems I have been understood, and rightfully so, for I was not clear enough.

Karsa is one of the best (if not THE best) characters in the series so far.

The way SE has handled his development is absolutely brilliant, having done a little writing myself, I know how very hard it is.

Karsa will rule until the end of days!

Well, for me the "Healthy Dead" were the worst one. SE needs time do develop his story and his heroes. "HD" ws just to short to show what he' best at.
Going back to the main five - MT was the weakest IMHO, mainly because of the too long pseudo-philosophical musings of Seren Pedac and her immensely boring almost-relationship with Hull. But the scarcely told stories of Brys, B'nagga and Turundal were a major disapponitment too.
The best - once it was DG, but for now MoI is my favourite. If I should name one best hero of all the persons SE created, than it's Itkovian.

If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants.
