Screenwriter plans Pirates of The Caribbean 4

(World Entertainment News Network)
Updated: 2007-02-14 17:10

Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightly are on course for a fourth Pirates Of The Caribbean movie, according to the film's writer.

Terry Rossio reveals plans are afoot to make another sequel for the hit franchise but fans may have to wait a few years to see it.

After making sequels two and three back to back, Rossio feels sure Depp and company will get the chance to ditch their sea legs for a while before returning for a fourth installment.

He tells movie news website MovieHole.net, "It's like the fourth Indiana Jones picture - there are forces in play to make it happen, and forces in play to make it not happen.

"I think we will try to write a screenplay. I can't say if we'll be able to solve the challenge of making a good fourth film, or if our screenplay will be enough to get a film made."

I think a fourth will be most welcome. Even if it aint as good as the other three, which I thought were awesome, It would still be head and shoulders better than a lot of other crap I've watched lately. I for one am all for this!

:D

Uhm... you did notice that your news source is 2 years old, right? :D

Johnny Depp, which, admit it, is the only character needed for a 4th film or even a trilogy, said when they were done with the third pirates film that he loved the character and he would love to make more films, but they all needed a brake to do other projects.

I'm sure it will happen sooner or later. They just need to get a proper script together.

aaaah here it is.

This is all coming out of last Monday's press junket for PUBLIC ENEMIES

Quote

Though some may feel this is one... or two... or possibly three times too many to the well, Depp is unashamed. "Call me a glutton," he joked.

Here's the deal: Depp is more than willing to return as Captain Jack Sparrow in a fourth PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN provided there's a coherent screenplay. And while he didn't exactly run down the scripts of the previous films, he did suggest that they could use some tightening.

"It got a little confusing here and there," said Depp. "I think, for me, because I love the character so much and... people seem to like it, that if there's an opportunity to try again, it's like going up to bat. You want to get back out there and try and try and try and see what you can do again. I enjoyed playing Captain Jack very much."

So how would Depp like to do PIRATES 4? "At this point, what I'm trying to do is trying to make it like a Beckett play," he said. SPARROW'S LAST TAPE, huh? And how might Disney feel about that? "It could be anything at this point," offered Depp. "Jack Sparrow could be in some kind of geisha clothing. I don't know. We could explore a lot of possibilities."

Why do I think this is the last we'll hear of these particular possibilities?

1 was great fun. 2 and 3 were cinematic abortions made large which should never have seen the light of day, notwithstanding that they made millions of dollars. A 4th would either continue the downward spiral of stupidity made for the masses, or please, for the love of god, restore some tiny shred of the potential the first movie had.

Anyrate, i figure we'll see this in another 2-3 years. Five years post the third film seems like a good break. And the left it wide open, because naturally, Orlando and Keira deserve a happy ending.

- Abyss, was pissed about the kraken.

They got one, post credits Keira goes down to the shore ten years later with her kid, and the sky flashes green as the Dutchman appears.

Also, the writers stated on DVD that any captain of the dutchman whose other half remains faithful for 10 years will be released from service.
that was supposed to be why davy jones was so pissed at Calypso, he was only supposed to be doing it for ten years.
meh. Link was dead :(

Huh, well, that teaches me not to flee during the credits of a crap movie. (see also, X-Men 3).

The entire Davy Jones/Calypso/Dutchman thing was a complete mess with plot holes you could sale a twelve-master through.

Any time the best way to understand the flic is via the commentary track on the disc = fail.

- Abyss, did like the ship battle in the whirlpool tho'...

'Aye.' It's a good word. I think. More a whole attitude than a word, really. With lots of meaning in it, too. A bit of 'yes' and a bit of 'well fuck' and maybe some 'we're all in this together.' So a word to some up the Malazans. <Sunrise>

What is with you people? You don't like Pirates 2 and 3, you don't like Matrix 2 and 3, you didn't like indy 4 and you don't like Transformers 2.

I think all of the above films are AWESOME.

Like the Matrix sequels I thought the pirates films just got better and better. Oh sure the plot was a mess in places, and the 3rd film seemed to just go on and on and on around the middle bit. But seriously, it's a pirate series, with pirates, who shoot and chop each other a lot and say ARRRHHHHGHH. And there's childish jokes and cool explosions and giant squids... what's not to love?!

Um...I hate to say this, but I sort of agree with...Apt :Surprise:. I wouldn't say they were awesome, but I've seen far worse...and plot holes are okay when it's just a bit of toshity tosh (just have to know that they are going to be there and then refuse to see them...a bit like Nelson I suspose)...and the end of 2 was fab...feel free to throw the rotten fruit...I can buy new clothes!!! :)
'Tell me, Tool, what dominates your thoughts?'
The Imass shrugged before replying. 'I think of Mafia, Adjunct.'
'Do all Imass think about Mafia?'
'No. Few think at all.'
'Why is that?'
The Imass leaned his head to one side and regarded her. 'Because, Adjunct, they are sheeple.'

Sometimes I wonder, "Why is that frisbee getting bigger?" ... and then it hits me.

Not having seen Trans2 i can't speak to it, but Pirates and Matrix both suffered from being brilliant first movies whereafter the studiobrainz had no idea what to do with them while other lesser brainz which control the money scream helpful 'suggestions' (re 'orders') like 'have them do a swordfight inside a big wheel!' and 'make the chase sequence sixteen minutes longer and have Morpheus fight an Agent hand to hand'.

The jokes were stupid enuf that even the children were rolling their eyes, the shooting and chopping was sanitized for family audiences and they didn't know what to do with the giant squid so they rolled it on to a beach and told us it was dead. For every awesome idea there was a greater stupidity to make me cringe and that, THAT is what's not to love.

You forgot to mention the gathering of massive fleets that sat around and did nothing while three ships ended the movie. Oh, and the goddess turning into a pile of crabs. And the stupid excess of plot twists and backstabbing and plans within plans that made no sense. And the abrupt and complete change of character that happened to over half the main cast. In fact, I could point to just about every scene that didn't have Depp in, and even then some of his were pretty stupid.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Am I the only one who was shocked when they found it dead? And more so, heart wrenched when they learned it was those damned british who made squid face kill it? I was angry, yes I was.

I agree this was plain lame. It reminds me of the ending of Lord of the Rings where Aragorn and co charge the one million or so orcs and trolls of Mordor, and when the Tower falls, instead of the orcs turning them into mush, they flee. Bull shit.

The british fleet could still have fucked up the pirated.

Oh come on, this was AWESOME. It was so awesome when she grew huge and used that babling god like voice and then turned into sea creatures.

But they're pirates. When not drinking rum and stabbing innocent merchants to death, they spend their time making plots and betraying each other. It's what they do.

Perhaps the crab goddess bit would have been better if I'd been able to understand a word she was saying. But explain the Florida Flowers and Keira Ironboardly double triple dectuplecrossing bits in a way that makes sense.

She was a woman, everyone knows women are fickle, spiteful creatures who never know what they want and only wish to have sex with as many pirates as possible before they die of venereal disease.

I stand anatomically corrected. :)

The reason I hated Pirates 2 - "Nothing, nothing, nothing, wait is this leading to something? Nothing, nothing, Oh noes Johnny Depp is dead and he was the only thing that was retaining my interest! Wait there is hope cos the guy who blatantly died in the first one has somehow become Jesus and is now alive! Oh, it's the end..."

The reason I hated Pirates 3 - "Hey this is pretty goo... wait, now he's the bad guy? Wait, now she's the bad guy? Wait, now he's the good guy? Wait, now he's the good guy? Wait, now she..." *snore*

Why I didn't like Pirates 2 or 3 as much as the first: "Is it just me, or is Keira Knightly not nearly as hot as she used to be?"
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....
