Pity that, as Apt said, Venom cannot possibly cme back unless they do something incredibly ridiculus. And even if they manage to do that I've no more faith in Spiderman movies after the horrible thing that was called Spiderman 3. Even it is only half as horrible as SM 3 it would still be awful.
Anyway which of Spidey most serious enemies are left?
Vulture: orrible even in the comics and too easy to beat
Carnage: without Venom you can't do it
Kingpin:not a bad idea, they could throw some supervillains as henchmen so Spidey can kick asses and won't understand that Kingpin is behind everything until it's too late.
Lizard: seeing how the on-armed doctor has appeared it's possible and I've actually liked Lizardespecially when he started to control reptilians to invade New York
Rhino: big dumb guy who just charges people, not good
Electro: actually a good idea, powerful enough to kick Spidey's ass at the beginning and they could put a great beginning scene with a huge thunderstorm and Electro hit by the lightning.
Kraven:good scenes with the city hunt
Mysterio:if they can handle it, and I very much doubt it, his illusions could have great efect on Spiderman

I purposely never actually watched the 3rd one so that I could maintain a slight chance of watching the rest of them if they turned out to be much better.

I suppose for villain I think it all comes down to the type of situation it'll put spidey in. First movie was him coming to learn his ability and having to fight people he doesn't want to. Second was the doing whats right despite the consequences or people hating him. Third was staying good and resisting the temptations to be bad with all that power.

They can't really do anything new with someone like Carnage or Electro, who have gimmicks but are still fighting enemies without a lot of subtlety. A Sinister/Insidious Six or a lizard army invasion could be something new with the being massively outnumbered and having to try and protect the entire city all at once when there's only one of him. I think the best, though, would be someone like Mysterio or Chameleon (or Kraven if they did it right) who is more cloak-and-dagger or ambush-like and continually screws up Spidey/Peter's plans and life in general while remaining elusive. While Spidey has had people dislike him before, he's always still been potent. An enemy who for most of the movie is simply better than him and whom he can't catch despite his best efforts could be interesting, as the cops turn to him at first and then lose their trust in him and start offering to just deal with the madman, etc etc...

@ Bauchelin - I liked the Vulture. I thought he was usually a cool oldschool supervillain. I especially liked the revamp of him where he became a lifesucking supervillain, who at one time stole Spidermans youth.

Then of course they wimped out and turned him back into a bald old dude with fur on his green winged leotard costume... because that, THAT is what the fans demand!

I would have such a crisis about whom i more wanted to see pounded to a thin red tapenade like pulp in that situation.

- Abyss, and before anyone asks, the answer is 'Wolverine'...

Personally, I was hoping for the Cloverfield monster.

"Ahhh, a monster, ahhhhh!!!"
"Look, it's Spiderman! He'll save us!
"YAY!"
"The monster, it just ate Spiderman!"
"YAY!"

FYI it's been confirmed in a couple of places, Robert 'Freddy Krueger' Englund is playing the Vulture.

Wuuuut? Are you kidding me!?

God damn it MARVEL!!!

I swear. All the writers of Hollywood, except Whedon perhaps and that guy who writes Lettermans jokes, should be dragged out into the street and shot, and then the film companies should be charged the price of the bullet and clean up.

Marvel should have a secret team consisting on 12 thirty year old marvel virgins nerds who've read everything in the universe. When ever they get a movie script send it down to the nerds, let them rage for 30 minutes straight, and then after they have consumed the horrible ideas and raped the messenger, give them another 30 minutes to masturbate to a picture of She-hulk and afterwards deliver a manuscript with a proper story that wont make Marvel look like fucking idiots and will probably win an oscar

If you can't tell, I don't think the Vulture is a great idea for a super villain in the new millennia.

What, after the amazing jobs they did with the Green Goblin, Venom and Sandman, you don't think they'll absolutely shock and awe the world with some old bald dude in a green leotard with puffy feather lining? I am stunned by your lack of faith.

In Sandmans defense, he was actually pretty damn cool in that film. He should have had the center stage. The other two characters and actors paled in comparison. The actor, what's his name from Wings, was the only one actually "acting", the special effects were pretty awesome, and amazingly, they managed to make this otherwise 2D old school villain seem cool and interesting.

The part where he turned into a HUGE dirt golem and was kicking spideys ass was so sweet!

I think the Vulture could be quite good. I remember reading a story about him in the 90s where he was dying of cancer, all old and grim. It could work.

It won't, but it could.

Yes, but it is still just an old guy with a mechanical hump, a leotard and wings.

Every fight between him and Spiderman should always last roughly 30 seconds.

Spiderman gets close, sprays a load of thick web against the vulture and his wings, the Vulture tries to get a way but plummets to the ground, spends a year in the hospital, dies in a hospice as a quadriplegic a couple of years later.

Unless they make his vulture suit this huge thing with giant mechanical wings, a battle harness, guidance systems, etc. then vulture really isn't much of a threat.

Dont think the Vulture is going to be the main villian.

Vareity has reported yesterday that Screenwriter Gary Ross is rewriting the script.
The script has been drafted before by James Vanderbilt (THE RUNDOWN, ZODIAC) and David Lindsay-Abaire (ROBOTS, INKHEART).
This will be the third Tobey Maguire movie for Ross, who wrote and directed both PLEASANTVILLE and SEABISCUIT.

So the villian has not been released yet but the front runners are supposed to either be the Black Cat or the Kingpin that slaps Spidey around this time. As far as "the Vulture" perhaps he is a side show villain or a henchman of King Pins?

There definitely is the issue with King Ping rights though. So who the hell knows.
There is also allot of talk about the Lizzard being the villian....with the New York sewer alligators and all that jazz.

All i am saying is that since the script isnt even written and approved yet....we shouldnt jump to any conclusions and pray to the comic book gods that Gory Ross does spidey justice.

first reliable source on who the villian will be...

Quote

If negotiations proceed according to plan, Malkovich will be playing Spider-Man’s nemesis the Vulture, who packs a punch despite his advanced age. The Vulture is able to fly through the air and brandish his sharp wings to attack Spider-Man.

Why no Curt Connors/Lizard? Movieline says:

we hear that the suits simply can't bring themselves to sign off on such an odd-looking enemy — instead, they'd rather hew closer to villains with a human face.

Strust the suits to be too much of pussys to go with what everybody wants

oh yes Anne hathaway is in it too...she is playing Felicia Hardy.... sort of.
movie line reports that:

unlike in the comic books, this Felicia Hardy doesn’t transform into the Black Cat. Instead, Raimi’s Felicia will become a brand-new superpowered figure called the Vulturess.

The viulturess and the vulture.....
Buhwhahahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaa:rofl::p:rofl::p

has to be a joke

John Malkovic as the villain... hmmm, it might end up being nearly as good as Johnny English!

Just kidding, I loved that film, this will be atrocious.

So, Spider-man 4 is dead, apparently.

Studio differences, Sam Raimi and Toby Macquire have walked. The new plan is to do a reboot of the franchise.

I thought Spider-man 4 was a movie too far, tbh, and I'm not particularly sad that it's died the death. Rebooting so soon after is a disastrous idea. They want to go back to the origin story? Even though it made the first film dull and predictable? Gah, terrible idea. They should avoid the origin story completely, imo. The only original thing they can do with it is change it, and that will enrage me.

The only bonus is that maybe they can tie it in with the Avengers movies. Oh, and maybe they'll get the right Peter Parker this time (i.e. Joseph Gordon-Levitt).
