Most played/best rpgs..

Morrowind
Final Fantasy 7
Fallout 3
Oblivion

Morrowind... because I waited for years to get a decent pc, and when I finally started playing, it was just everything I'd been waiting for. I've some minor niggles with it after a lot of play, but the choices and options and freedom were such a breath of fresh air.

FF 7 was really memorable for some reason - possibly the story. (I kept playing until I'd bred that chocobo that could run on water to collect the final power move, the Knights of the Round, which went on for about 10 minutes..)

Before that I used to play 'Dungeon Master and 'Bloodwych' on an Amiga 500 - both quite similar, but good magic systems and party building. (Still frustrating that games back then, on a computer that had less memory than my 'phone, were more engaging than 99% of the stuff that gets churned out now, however pretty it looks).

So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Excellent. ^^

The third Fallout is awesome, but it's an Oblivion awesome. Just...not as much...depth to it. Or something. Number two wasn't as good as number one, imo, but it was still damn awesome. Hope you enjoy your time with the original, though!

Maybe the Oblivion/Fallout 3 depth issue is to do with familiarity.

I found Morrowind generally better than Oblivion as the world was essentially an unexplored, fantasy environment, with desert houses shaped like shells, weird mushroom villages in the forests etc. It ws all new, and three was a lot of variety.

Oblivion went for 'generic tolkienesque look,' with less emphasis on the strange and unusual, and however enjoyable Fallout 3 was, there was nothing unexpected in terms of location.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Perhaps - but the story, too, in Oblivion and Fallout 3 were cliched, with mostly poor dialogue (admittedly, voice acting limits the number of lines...but then...do away with the voice acting, dammit!).
Oh, and Oblivion was NOT supposed to be like that! The lore states it is a jungle. :p

So I guess I'm pretty much the only geek here to like tabletop rpgs.

I quit. Never was hardcore, nor was our group... but it was a nice excuse to sit together, drink beer and then go into town after a day :p

Used to play Legend of the Five Rings about five times a year, cause all things are better when you replace swords with katana, thiefs with ninja and fighters with samurai. The only thing is that it fucks up players who do not know the honour system and refuse to commit ritual suicide after insulting their lord's wife...

Not to mention that everyone could die in a single cut and the monsters are freakinglishly hard to kill, but that was part of the fun :p

i still have my ps1 with ff8/9 on it. i think overall 7 was the best one(its on the pc i have it too) given the story arc. The early ones redone on the ds where pretty awesome aswell. Aside from that i thought blue dragon was an amazing rpg. Morrowind and fallout 1 where also top notch.

Funny no-one's mentioned Baldurs Gate yet. I tried playing the sequel a couple of years ago but I actually thought it was too hard just fighting my way out of the first dungeon... which I found odd.

Chrono Trigger was awesome. I played it on my PC with a snes emulator. Even though it was some 10+ years old it still kicked ass.

My favorite RPG would probably, to use a broad term, be the Final Fantasy series. I've played FF3/4 depending upon where in the world you're from, 4/5, 7 which is probably the best game I've ever played (Not counting World of Warcraft) FF 9 (I think it was).

I wish I had a playstation so I could play more.

It really, really annoys me that the FF games don't get converted to PC.

Just emulate the games. ePSXe, a few images, a crappy controller and you're set.

Planescape probably sits at the top of my PC RPG list, with its mind numbing story. It blew me away back when it first came out. The Nameless One, bruh, so cool.

Console RPGs are a bit different, nothing really stands out as the greatest thing ever. I use to love playing FFVIII over and over, but does it hold up now? X and XII were also stellar games.
Suikoden 2 was a FANTASTIC game back in the day, so thats up there. Chrono Trigger was okay, but certainly not the best.

Hrmm, A tie between Suikoden 2 and Xenogears I think, for Consoles.

As for table top, Never a huge fan. I played a bit of D&D3rd Edition about 8 years ago now. But never really got super into it.

agree.I knew so many cheats, but I played this a lot when I was younger. Would even system link the computers together and play through with friends. As party leader I would always steal the good loot though hehe.

I've never tried D&D, and would be interested to give it a go. Just never met anyone who plays and I'm pretty sure my friends would not be down for it.

Knoll Barrow is PnP - see how empty that is! :p

That was not it's primary vocation, it was an RP forum first and foremost.
But like all internet RP (on a forum not dedicated to it) it died out.
So if the Knoll Barrow has been re branded as a PnP games section then maybe it could be moved as a subforum into the games department to get the traffic flow up.

To everyone who said that PnP is to hardcore:
It's not, it's really not. Looking mostly at Ment here who mods a LOT of mafia games, and I consider all that effort to be hardcore.
Just don't pick up the most complicated stuff right away, and play just once a week. Nothing complicated.

Stalker:
You need the right group of friends, you're right, and you need the right DM. Though if you just want to try it out, then may I suggest maybe finding a gaming group and trying there, that way you don't have to buy the books for a trial run and you get the benefit of help from experienced players (as long as they're not dicks or Powergamers).

I have suggested that but the staff wanted it to remain a seperate forum.

Well then I'll go ask in the website section, though chances are that one person won't succeed.

A poll?

Too have it moved or to prove their are enough PnP fans to justify a move?

I love me some PnP games.

D&D 3.0 was ok. 3.5 was better. 2.0 was the best, but oh so confusing for non-math orientated people.

With my friends' changing schedules, we haven't been able to schedule a time to sit down and run a campaign in a while, it sucks.
