So I finally get all Daedric armor and weapons, look like a boss. Now I feel like doing the thieves guild/dark brotherhood quests, which means light armor and my bow.

Maybe I will collect some shouts and advance the story a bit until I finish leveling heavy armor? PS, at 70 there is a perk to make heavy armor not weigh anything or slow you down when you wear it. ITS AWESOEM.

My battlemage is getting more difficult to play....mostly due to my early reliance on melee weapons and neglect of spell leveling. Now I've converted to pretty much full-mage to get all that stuff caught up but still feeling a bit underpowered, especially when I run into things like ice trolls.
Still loving the game, playing through the main quest and kinda ticking off side quests I feel like doing as it leads me to new locations. I like that whiterun has a good number of nearby quests too. Anybody else feel like the world is kinda small though? I feel like I shouldn't be able to manage trans-provincial travel in a single morning.
I don't get peoples' gripes with the steam version of the game. I was playing last night and afaik there were no issues at all. 64bit win7 with a gpu that can handle full settings and I noticed zero difference after this update.
One thing I'm very much a fan of in the dungeon design this time is that they aren't all triple and quadruple level dungeons. I dunno about you guys but I cannot bring myself to leave a dungeon or cave until I've cleared it and going into, say, aelid ruins in Oblivion or random ruined forts was always a multi-hour affair. I mean, how in the hell does every single piddly fort the entire province have a 4 level basement?? In Skyrim I feel like the action bits come in much more manageable packets. Forts I've seen so far have 1, maybe 2 small above ground levels and maybe a basement after which you find the bandit leader and mark it as "cleared".
I has question though...
1- How in the hell do you set up weapon / spell presets on the PC version? I like the favourites menu but it is super immersion-breaking to have to constantly pause the game in order to switch up spells and weapons
2- Are there faster horses than the one you get in whiterun? Old nellie (my name for her) is a sweetheart and a surprisingly sturdy steed, but my god is she ever slow. My companion I got after becoming thane of whiterun can almost keep up without even using a horse!

Obdigore, do Boethiah's quest and use that for the missions, it's what I've been doing. Of course, I've been levelling sneak along with archery alongside twohanded for a while anyway so that helped but the reward from that made it possible without a lot of potion abuse or switching from all heavy armour.
And don't worry Cerv, a frost troll I met at early levels was the first and only time I've had to use my Nord's Battle Cry 'everyone run away now please I need to flee' power. You have no idea how carthartic it is to go from being oneshotted by giants to oneshotting giants though.
Also oh god I found two more words, one in a questline (the DB had the third word for my favourite dragonslaying shout, wish I'd known earlier) and one just in the world in one of the last few tombs I haven't explored, which can only mean terrible things for me. You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

as for the evl patch--RPS has a link to a workaround.
one good thing about Bethesda: no matter how hard they work to screw up their game, they always leave the community some room to fix it.

You can set spells to 1-9 in your favorites menu. Weapons as well. Be warned, you'll need to play around with the quick changes as they are somewhat tricky. like having to double select a spell to get it in your right hand, then select another just once to hold it in your left. This doesn't seem to work with weapons as nicely.

I was kind of hoping it just saved "loadouts". For my battlemage I like to enter a fight with double-fisted lightning bolts (sounds like a porn movie title) and then whip out my mace and keep a lesser-ward on my left hand to finish the bastard off (which oddly enough sounds like the plot of a porn movie). It would be easier if I could just switch between those loadouts instead of wasting time hacking at number keys while my face gets bashed in by bandits.
I think I'm going to start using conjured weapons though...they seem like the way to go, especially since they level a spell category in the process. Do they level spell casting AND THEN one-handed weapons when you use em? If so...awesome.

Yes, this is exactly what happens when conjuring weapons. One of my favorite perks in conjuring involves bound weapons banishing enemy conjurations and atronachs and such.

Upgrade it to Legendary quality. Then do that to Glass. Then come back and moan about smithing being bad
(The talent I had the most difficulty in accepting as a necessity was the scale/ plate stuff - steel plate is not bad but it has no place on that side of the tree, ought to have been independent, perhaps under Magical Upgrading).
Smithing is not bad - but only invest in the tree if you intend to get hit a bit - as a 100% stealther/backstabber (and likely also as a mage), it is a waste of points.

also: on conjured items - their damage depends on your conjuration level and does not, in fact, level one-handed or armor skills or anything to that effect. Neither does it use them to determine the strength of items - just your Conjuration is taken into account.

...I have 16 shouts. There's an achievement for 20 shouts. I'm not only missing the last words in a few of the shouts I still have, I'm missing an entire shout itself.

Illy, the second shout you got is good for a melee character.
Just FYI, you know that you can go to Angrier or w/e the greybeards leader (not the one on top of the mountain, the one in their castle) is and ask him 'have you detected any words of power' and he will give you misc quests to go find the words you do not have yet?
Also if you run around using shouts in random cities/locations, you will get messages by courier that say 'lol some people dont like dragonborn but I wanna be bffs. Investigate the source of power <here>' which will give you the location of a word.

Oh man, have I done that. I exhausted both Arngeir and my friend with the letters on the start of the weekend, though mostly because I forgot what triggered the letters until you mentioned it earlier in the thread. I generally had more luck sneaking and using Aura Whisper in dungeons to get the letters, though I had a couple of cases where the letter and Arngeir sent me to the same place, and once when I triggered the letter while in a dungeon with the word that the letter contained, so he was suggesting I get the word in the place I just got the word in. The fact I had gaps in my shouts with no more quests is what prompted me to panic earlier.
Sadly, I gave in and quickly skimmed the wiki for the last words for the only three incomplete shouts I have at the moment,

Just finished the Civil War storyline, I wish both the Stormcloaks and the Imperials weren't such assholes, the Stormcloaks are rasict sonvabitches who happen to have a somewhat good cause but are lead by a self severing bastard and the Imperials are ineffective holier-than-thou corrupt officals who really don't care for Skyrim. I waited awhile to do the storyline so I could get a grip on both factions but in the end they both seemed pretty horrible so I decided to go with the Imperials because they have the best chance to take down the Thalmor. I wish there was a third 'I shall lead them' faction kinda like New Vegas. I really hope we get an Thalmor expansion, I hate the Thalmor and killed them every chance I got. Haaa time to go finish up the Dark Brotherhood storyline and then finally the main one. This game has ended me, to much to do in it.
