During the past couple of weeks I've watched:

Prince of Persia - surprisingly good. They took the concept from the 2003 game (which I loved) and did their own thing with it. Not the best ever script though, sort of run of the mill. But I liked the quirkyness. It had something of Pirates of the Carribean over it. Only it was lacking Jack Sparrow and the charm of the other movies.

Jake Gyllenhal was a great choice for the Prince, perfect cast there. So was Princess what's her face and the rest of the characters, with one exception, Ben Kingsley. I don't understand this guy, one moment he's doing a great perfomance in some small film under the radar and next you see him in a big budget movie like PoP and he fucking sucks. Alfred Molina how ever completely owned every scene he was in. Such a great crook. Can't wait to see what he does with the bad guy role Sorcerers Apprentice.

Knight and Day - This is my kind of movie. Completely over the top and unappologetic action sillyness. It was basically Mission Impossible without all the seriousness. There was a slow bit around the middle where the film actually pretended that there was a plot, but otherwise it was just a wild ride from start to finish.

I love Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz and they did their usual craziness with their roles. The chemistry was there and it looked like they had fun.

A quick way to tell if a film is good is when you feel like going back in and watching the film one more time straight away. That was the feeling I got when I stepped out of the cinema. I hope this turns into a long series of silly action films.

JCVD - I was surprised with this one. It took itself more seriously than I expected. It was a very interesting and thought provoking film and yet, after watching the trailers last year, I was also expecting more than what we got. How ever the movie is awesome. It's worth watching if nothing else for the monologue Van Dam does about his life around the middle of the film.

It really is a shame that his career is so fucked up. Why the fuck did he turn down the Expendables?! I'd love it if somebody like Tarantino wrote a proper script for the guy and resuscitated his career.

Dragonball Z: Evolution - What a fucking joke. I've never really followed the cartoon, but this wasn't even a mockery this was a crime against cinematography. What the hell where they thinking? This was worse than Street fighter the Movie and Super Mario Bros the Movie.

What the hell was Chow Young Fat doing in that film? I hope they paid him well, because that film is a stain that will tarnish his resume for ever.

The only one I want to see on your list is JCVD. I would have to be really bored to want to see any of the other dregs you list.
Van Damme, Norris and Seagal (amongst others omitted) should be in The Expendables.... if the movie is really paying homage to action movie past stars.

Go watch Knight and Day. I dare you to not enjoy yourself. If nothing else you can just stare at Diaz boobs the whole time. Or Cruise moobs if you're into that sort of thing.

I've been in love with Diaz ever since I watched Charlies Angels 2. I cried during that opening scene because it was so awesome. She is one of the few women I would cheat on Sarah Jessica Parker with.

Apt, your taste in women is only exceeded by your taste in movies.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

I left it deliberately vague as to whether it was good or bad.

Agreed. The only movie Cameron Diaz was ever good was in The Mask, when she was about 25 pounds heavier and not expected to deliver more than two or three lines at a time.

What JCVD showed me is that Van Damme actually has acting chops if he has a script he can use them in. I'd really like to see him in a role much like Travolta's in Pulp Fiction - a strong supporting character who kicks ass because of the situation the character is in, rather than because the entire movie is built upon him kicking ass.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

Diaz was a goddess in CA2. I tried searching for the bull riding scene but couldn't find it, but this will do:

Exactly. But I think it would be even more curious to see him in a film where he doesn't throw a single punch. Give him some crazy role if you want, but let it be something you wouldn't expect.

He turned it down because he was busy filming THE EAGLE PATH (or FULL LOVE dependin on where you live) that he wrote, was directing and starring in at the same time as the EXPENDABLE's was shooting....schedule clash really.

Apparently its head scratching weird/shit

Most recently watched movie was "Precious". Dear God, if you have not yet seen this film then you should. Well, if you like powerful and gritty films. There ain't no sentimental bull in this film, and there are moments of real jaw-dropping "Holy F**k" as it pulls no punches. Great performances from all the cast, and hey, who knew Mariah Carey could actually act?

Apt, please god be kidding. CA2 was tripe, pure and simple.
If your taste was any worse I'd accuse you of liking Goodkind

You are wrong. Charlies Angels was a Master Piece of Cinematography. Completely over the top spy action sillyness with cheesy humor and hot chicks in tight outfits. Any film that has an opening scene that starts with the character dressed up as a German Tourist with pigtails riding a mechanic bull and ends with everything blowing up and the characters jumping into a falling helicopter in mid air is a good film.

Watched Leaves of Grass today. Really enjoyable movie, Ed Norton (as twin brothers) was brilliant as always.

I just watched Greenberg and was pretty impressed. Greta Gerwig is awesome and Ben Stiller does a pretty remarkable job of not pulling any cliches for the mentally ill. I was actually expecting a more jokey movie and character than there turned out to be; but absolutely none of it was sitcom-y. The characters said funny things sometimes, and did stupid things that were funny, but none of it was setup/punchline stuff. I'm not putting down that kind of comedy, but this was just very surprising since it treated him as someone genuinely unwell rather than a mere crank (it wasn't a gen-x Grumpy Old Men, for instance). Noah Baumbach really has good instinct for off-putting, self-sabotaging narcissists.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.
